The location cannot be beat. Charming old (400+ years!), somewhat shopworn hotel. Friendly, helpful staff—kudos to Fernando and Raulio! We had a penthouse suite, a great bargain! To get there, one must ride in the World’s Slowest Elevator, but who’s hurrying? The suite was lacking in decor, but very comfortable, good AC, and had not one, but TWO jacuzzis. Great value!!

An interesting experience. First, you can't beat the location! The hotel is over 400 years old and has a lot of charm. The lobby is lovely. But don't expect many modern luxuries. The rooftop could be a really big asset and could use some upgrades though. It could really be a money making jewel with some improvements to the furniture and food. But you won't regret a stay here!

Hotel Francés in Guadalajara is a charming gem right in the heart of the historic district. The building is beautifully preserved, oozing with old-world charm and a cozy, traditional vibe. The highlight of my stay? The mariachi night—it was so lively and memorable, truly a magical experience! The staff was friendly and welcoming, always ready to help. The location is unbeatable if you want to explore the historical zone on foot. Perfect for history lovers or anyone looking for an authentic Guadalajara experience. Don’t miss it, especially if you enjoy cultural vibes and music!

Beautiful hotel! Historical but decor does it NO justice! Need a makeover on Decor! To dark no incentives for Guess, dinning room opens too late closes to early! Personnel needs to be more professionally trained and proper attire.

Booked a room a week ago, received a confirmation. Upon arriving a week later on my check-in date, NO RECORD IN THEIR COMPUTER. The lady said she will have to re-book at the existing rate, double the rate I paid for last week. I showed her my phone to confirm my booking, then she accepted my pre-reserved room. Very disappointed. Got to the room, no 2nd lock to secure the door. Plug outlets do not work in the room ONLY in the restroom. 🤦

In the heart of the historical downtown Guadalajara. Hotel Frances was designed bythe same architect that designed the cathedral in Guadalajara. It was also used in a movie with Charles Bronson and was a favorite spot for many Hollywood stars back in the '60s and '70s. In the evenings you can appreciate the historical buildings surrounding the hotel.

My favorite place to stay in GDL. Close to everything and the staff is terrific. I love the giant courtyard. I think fondly of this place and miss it very much. Can't wait to go back and if you want to stay for a few months, they can hook you up with a nearby apartment at a reasonable price.

I'm disappointed with the room they gave us, it was secluded in the furthest corner possible. It was very creepy the mattress is so old it squeaks A LOT and there was no window like the other rooms had. I felt claustrophobic so I did attempt to switch but apparently there were no rooms available I was shown a standard room but the guy who was instructed to show me the room was rushing me and I don't do well under pressure so I rejected it and kept the creepy room :/ the worst part was the Jacuzzi jets didn't work and when we called to inform they said they would send someone but no one came. When I checked out I expressed my dissatisfaction and asked if it was possible to get some form of compensation and the gentleman said no since I didn't mention it sooner he could not compensate me. I told him I did and he had said no rooms were available and no one ever came to check the Jacuzzi but he stood by his apologetic no compensation can be provided and said that he would mark the room out of service (ok but how does that help me I booked the jr suite specifically for the Jacuzzi 😑) it was probably out of service already and they still gave us that room anyway. The one good thing about the room was the shower pressure (isn't that sad🤷🏾‍♀️) the valet people were always kind including the guy who denied compensation, but I wouldn't stay at the hotel again.

Yelp
Good: Location! History! Fun architecture! Terrific old elevator that requires closing both gates when you enter /exit! Friendly staff! Bad: If you are noise sensitive, be aware that plaza festivities will sound like they are in your room. I was there in late December, and the Christmas music (a recording of a young girl singing 5 songs on a loop) was charming the first 2 nights. By the last night I was over it. Ugly: The bathroom is very 1980s. The tiles are patterned with water splashes but the shower has decent water pressure so all is forgiven!

Yelp
First of all, the hotel is beautiful. It's conveniently located near the catedral, algunos mercados, el centro, etc. The hotel's architecture is admirable. The front desk workers are attentive and helpful. Diego checked us in and would greet us every single time we passed by and he was working. The bar tender was extremely friendly and he makes the yummiest piña coladas! The hotel has a convenient restaurant right next door with a large variation of food. The elevator looks old, but it's mighty strong and cute to look at. It reminded me of the elevators in Titanic lol The rooms are cozy and have everything you need. Beds were comfy enough and tv had a decent number of channels. We made sure that our room had AC so we kept it on and the room was a decent temperature at all times. We slept well. **HOWEVER** Despite all of the positive things that I've listed above, I wouldn't return to this hotel unless there's a way the hotel can ensure that guest items won't go missing from the room. There was a dress I wore on my second day in Guadalajara, that I put inside my bag of dirty clothes. The bag was rummaged through and my dirty dress was stolen. Why? How? Who? I don't know. It is also important to note that we locked ALL of our luggage before leaving the room. Our bags of dirty clothes were the only items left out in the open! So, if you must stay at this hotel to submerge in a vintage experience in the heart of Guadalajara, please lock all your items! Maybe even instruct for there to be no cleaning service in your room.

Yelp
If only walls could speak! This historic hotel that is over 400 years old has been lovingly restored yet retains that special feel. And the location-- you are in the heart of the historic district, everything just steps away. The staff is so friendly & helpful. If you are looking for a normal hotel, find a Holiday Inn. But if you appreciate architecture & history, this is for you. I will most certainly be back!

Yelp
I've stayed here twice with the first time being about 3 years ago. That time we stayed only 2 nights and it was in the winter, this time we stayed 6 nights in October. The hotel is a converted convent originally built in 1610. Keep this in mind - it is old. It has a sweet historic charm but is lacking in modern conveniences and comfort. If you're up for this, you'll be fine. We started in a tiny room the size of a walk in closet. The bed was advertised as a queen but was actually a double. It was very quiet and dark with two small windows. One in the bathroom located high up on the wall and a medium sized one for the main room. The hotel does not have air conditioning. They utilize modern turbo ceiling fans for ventilation. So the room was always hot and stuffy in October. The really bad thing for me was that we had to keep the windows open all the time and the mosquitos knew I was there... I was bitten like crazy. No me gusta..

Yelp
Very irresponsible staff and the manager doesn't even has the decency of returning the calls when you need something addressed

Yelp
Excellent ‼ if your like me and LOVE old historic hotels then this is the place to go. Jacuzzi in the HUGE size master suite where I stayed. I was on the 3rd floor and could walk out onto the rooftop patio. All the upper floors have turn of the century balconies overlooking the main streets.(the entire place is straight out of the 18th century) They have actually made Hollywood western movies here and it's easy to see why. Like going back in a time machine. This hotel is in the old historic section of Guadalajara . There is a endless array of low cost as well as high end restaurants to choose from. And every conceivable need a traveler could have is within reach. The price was very reasonable and the 2 room suite extremely comfortable with American cable channels in the room.

Yelp
No, thank you. I was excited about staying at this place after reading reviews and seeing the lobby as we walked past. I was drawn in by their chandelier and ancient elevator. Once I found out they had a suite with an in-room jacuzzi I was sold. But after staying here a couple of nights, I kicked myself for getting suckered in. NO thanks and this is why: - I used the in-room security box. Upon checkout I tried opening the box and was unable to get it to open. I went downstairs and began to explain the situation to the girl at the front desk when she cut me off and said "Who said you could use the box?!" Long story short, we had to wait 30 minutes for an engineer to come and open the box because apparently NONE of the security boxes work yet they have not made an effort to neither remove them from the room or notify their guests. - We got back to our room at 6pm and saw that our room had not been cleaned. When I went downstairs they said, "I'm not sure if we have anyone available, we are short staffed" Had we come back later there probably would not have been anyone available to come clean. - Jacuzzi was really old and dirty, broken buttons etc. - Our window was missing a panel so it was impossible to keep the room dark in the morning. - Elevator is charming but runs rickety and you feel as though you are going to plummet to your death any minute. - Lastly, they sold us on the guided Chapala tour and it SUUUUCKED, review to follow. I hear Hotel Morales down the street is charming so if I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely try that place next.

Yelp
Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. And don't lose your key because they will charge you 200 pesos for it. Linen is dirty, towels are dirty, walls are dirty and the restrooms are the smallest ever, you literally have your feet in the shower when you sit in the toilet. We only stayed their because we decided to stay an additional 2 days in GDL and our prior hotel el Mendoza was sold out. This hotel was only like 4 blocks down. Save your money and stay at el Mendoza which is only like 30 bucks more a night and is 4 times the size bigger. Front desk receptionists are jerks and the only reason I would give it a star is Because the bartender is real nice and attentive. They also have a huge sign in front of your bed that reads that they are not responsible for lost items. It also does not have AC and the windows do not have screens, so in this time of rainy weather our room was infested with mosquitoes! Screw this place literally... but seriously 12 dollars for a lost room card that they literally pay 25 cents for is damn stupid to me.

Yelp
Come for the view or coffee, but NOT a place for restful sleep or comfortable accomodations...Never ever recommend this deteriorating hotel....customer services was and is very lacking....we asked for another room as the bathroom shower was so so small. Instead the mgmnt response was "you shouldve told us earlier" Front desk response was dismissive. We booked 3 rooms on this trip. AVOID this rat trap.

Yelp
I booked for my mom's vacations, not hot water for 2 days, and she even got charged with a towels according to front desk she made stains on them, yes historical and nice views form the roof other than that nothing else is more options around and for sure better prices and better experiences

Yelp
absolutely horrible. the rooms were extremely hot, the fan was so help, a mosquito infested room, the shower water was way too hot. i couldn't sleep for days staying here because of how hot. i would wake up with headaches, pouring sweat and such. do not recommend.

Yelp
Excited to go back to Gdl in 19 years we wanted to stay in the historic downtown. I did my research and I found this charming hotel. They have cool videos of the place on YouTube and Google and I was definitely dragged to it. When we arrived we were amazed by this gorgeous, old building. We rode the magic elevator hoping not to plummet onto the ground. Once we open the door of the room, our mood changed 360 degrees. The room was tiny, the bathroom a disaster. We had trouble using the toilet because there's no room to move around. The shower head is supposed to have about 350 wholes in it but just 8 were properly working, the rest were clogged. The mattress was really old and uncomfortable. They don't provide an iron, we had to go to a nearby store and buy our own. The cleaning staff were super nice. The guys receptionists were not friendly at all, the girls I'd say they try to be. We checked out of this place after the first night. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL. Holiday Inn Hotel is just 2 blocks away on Juarez Ave., almost same price but way better place.
