Don't pay too much attention to the bad reviews this hotel got. I've read a lot of them and it even convinced me to book a different, much worse, hotel on my first night in Chur. I'm glad I gave it another chance because much of the negativity seems to be over nothing! There is one thing that may make this hotel a bad choice for you: It's an old building! You won't get AC, you won't get sound proofing, there are no elevators. You won't have a large and fantastic bathroom or a king sized bed. Don't mistake oldness for dirtiness: My room and even the shared bathroom were spotless. Maybe a little off-white from their age, but very clean. If you think they should "just renovate", then I dare you to try renovating an old building in a historic part of town and let me know how it (and the paperwork) goes.
Unto the good parts. The staff keep the place very clean. Despite the building's age, nothing smelled like cigarettes. Fresh white towels awaited me when I arrived. The shower and bathroom were incredibly clean.
The price is very competitive for the region, it was one of the cheapest hotels in chur at the time I visited. They serve a simple but tasty included breakfast. It would have been nice to have some cooked food, but at the price I paid I wouldn't expect anything more. You can buy excellent dinner as well. I really enjoyed sampling the Graubünden cuisine, and they have the Swiss classics.
You'll get to stay right in the center of the old town. You may hear street noise outside but you'll get very little car noise. The staff are very friendly and accommodating*.
The furniture was solidly built but a little dated. The beds were on the firm side but I couldn't feel any springs (I like softer beds but this is really a matter of personal preference). They also squeaked a bit, not terrible. Maybe the staff could add some graphite sheets between the joints to help with that. Overall this is a great place to stay.
* by friendly and accommodating, I mean the staff were approachable and kind. They politely offered to assist me with a problem I had that was entirely my own. They also didn't act bothered by any of my dumb questions or my lack of German language skills. When I say accommodating, I DO NOT mean they will tolerate abuse. If you've ever worked a service job you'll know that the staff here put a lot of care into making people feel welcomed, but it's a smaller operation with a more casual atmosphere. If you've learned to get what you want from service workers by getting angry at them, please stay at home and don't travel.
