We used this hotel only for a night on our northern Italy-Swiss tour.|Hotel is in the central location, across the bus/train station and 5 min walk from old town.|Rooms are very basic as well the bathroom, but clean. Ask for back side rooms as they're quiet.|Breakfast was average, good enough to start a day and keep you fed.|They offer reduced parking rates in the nearby garage (around 18 CHF), but just behind the hotel are metered parking spaces, free overnight until 8 AM.|We booked this hotel 5 months in advance and never found a better option. For expensive Switzerland this is a great option for a one night stay.

Great location, super near to Locarno station. Breakfast was decent. Cozy room. Some rooms have balcony, some don't. Bathroom is clean. Sometimes they provide toiletries, sometimes they don't so do bring your own. Aircon can be noisy and sputters a bit. They close the doors after 12am. But generally enjoyed my stay here. Near post office, and walking distance to the old town and shops.

Excellent central location (right next to Locarno train station), yet peaceful. Offers great value for money; while it may not boast 5-star luxury, it's a comfortable and clean option, perfect for those on a budget.

Lovely hotel, good location right next to train station. Double room was two big beds pushed together which was fine. Very comfortable, clean and spacious. Nice balcony to sit with beautiful views of mountains and lake. Clean bathroom with double sinks, bath and hand shower. Room cleaned and tidied every day. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is continental and good choice. All TV channels in German or Italian. Altogether a very enjoyable stay.

This hotel has all of your basic needs. It is clean, comfortable and quiet. It is across from the downtown train station and has restaurants and shops within walking distance. It includes a nice buffet breakfast. It is within walking distance of Lake Maggiore.

First impressions were okay but the only positive about this hotel is the location. The hard part is that there is a nightclub downstairs that plays extremely loud and bass heavy club music until 5am. We checked out after one night after barely sleeping. Our room had no hot water, the air conditioning was rattling and noisy and the bathroom is very small. we unfortunately lost our room key when we went out for dinner and were yelled at when we requested another key, only to have the older man at reception unlock our room door and leave back downstairs without giving us a spare key. Do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere.

We were very disappointed with the Hotel Garni Montaldi. The location was ideal - right across from the train station. However, we reserved a "triple bed room" - to me, that does not mean a double bed with an old cot for the third bed, especially when paying over $200 per night. My teenage daughter was uncomfortable on the triple folded thin mattress she had to sleep on. Although everything was very clean, it all is quite worn - ripped curtains, holes in sheets. There is no power in the bathroom, no clock (which we are finding to be standard in many European hotels), and no air conditioning. Thank goodness for the balcony with french doors and a window in the bathroom - opening both provided for some cross ventilation and brought the temperature down for sleeping. Otherwise, there are no vents in the room (there is a radiator). The downside of having to open the balcony doors is that the street noise is pretty loud. We were so exhausted by day's end, though, that it didn't affect us all that much. The breakfast was nice. Staff was pleasant, but I would not say friendly. Pretty much did not interact with us after check in and not even at check out - I just dropped the key on the desk without response from the staff. Granted, they spoke Italian, we spoke English, but I would have expected some interchange. Ah well. At least the balcony was nice for the fireworks!

We stayed in for a night with my fiancee as part of a group trip and we were rather disappointed. A"couple's room" had simply two single beds pushed against each other and were kind of stiff (we expected to have a big bed for two and softer mattress), the walls were yellowish, not a lot of space to move around, the light fixture was dirty and they didn't have A/C but we had at least a small ventilator. The bathroom was incredibly small and almost all made of plastic. The worst was probably hearing everything our neighbor from above were saying (and especially her heels) and having our own share of the discotheque's music all night long. ||The breakfast though was nice with a lot of choice, the hotel is located just in front of the train station and close to restaurants and shops.||It wasn't a great stay for us but it probably would be a good choice for a single traveler who wish to visit around.
