We were very disappointed with the Hotel Garni Montaldi. The location was ideal - right across from the train station. However, we reserved a "triple bed room" - to me, that does not mean a double bed with an old cot for the third bed, especially when paying over $200 per night. My teenage daughter was uncomfortable on the triple folded thin mattress she had to sleep on. Although everything was very clean, it all is quite worn - ripped curtains, holes in sheets. There is no power in the bathroom, no clock (which we are finding to be standard in many European hotels), and no air conditioning. Thank goodness for the balcony with french doors and a window in the bathroom - opening both provided for some cross ventilation and brought the temperature down for sleeping. Otherwise, there are no vents in the room (there is a radiator). The downside of having to open the balcony doors is that the street noise is pretty loud. We were so exhausted by day's end, though, that it didn't affect us all that much. The breakfast was nice. Staff was pleasant, but I would not say friendly. Pretty much did not interact with us after check in and not even at check out - I just dropped the key on the desk without response from the staff. Granted, they spoke Italian, we spoke English, but I would have expected some interchange. Ah well. At least the balcony was nice for the fireworks!
