The house has been beautifully renovated and lovingly combines old and new elements of the Appenzell wooden building tradition. Breakfast is a real delight and is served with love by the host couple. We can highly recommend the Hotel Bären in Gais!

Simply fantastic. All your heart may desire and more! Being hosted by an incredibly friendly and welcoming Family will make your stay feel like home! The food is delicious and the service superb! The view over Appenzell and the mountain range in the back is stunning and will give you a full dose of Swissness! I'd rate them 6 stars if I could!

This great small hotel has not only a grest view, but also a friendly staff and a superb kitchen. They serve really great food with a subtle touch to everything, presented with much attention to detail! Also superb local wines and schnapps. A great relaxing stay that charged up our batteries during an exhausting tour !

Decent size double room, stunning view of the Swiss mountains. Perfectly clean, comfortable bed. The hotel restaurant is very good. Wife loved the monkfish and my steak was perfectly cooked. We had a lovely stay.

Call this the ultimate mixed review. The food is good. The view is spectacular but keep in mind this is what you are paying for. If money is no object, go and enjoy. If you are here on a special occasion do yourself a favor, don't order the salad, it is a lot of money for nothing special. Good wine selection, again pricey. Overall a nice place, but save it for an event day. Also, out of town (or out of country) guest will love it.

First thing to note is that this guest house is located outside of Appenzell up the hillside overlooking the valley. Our room had the most amazing view of all the places we stayed in Switzerland. To say it is a postcard picture is still not doing it justice. The room was very nice with a private bathroom and did I mention the AMAZING view. The first thing we did was open the windows and just stare out at the country side. The sound of cow bells only added to our enjoyment and we even left the window open all night so we could hear them throughout the night. They have a very nice restaurant and the breakfast the next morning was top notch. The region is beautiful and the whole setting is just so amazing. It was a very short drive down to the center of town to take in the shops and local activities. We would stay here again and truly hope to one day. The only thing we would do different is to stay longer next time!

We will keep a beautiful memory of our stay in this friendly and quiet family gasthaus with an amazing panoramic view of Appenzell and Säntis mountain. The gasthaus offered fresh regional products for breakfast, being flexible in terms of timing. Dinning possibility (in the panoramic restaurant with a garden) and free parking wers also available.
