We stayed here 2x during our 10 day trip to Portugal. Hotel is the things it should be: clean, safe, great location, and friendly professional staff. The bad reviews you see on this hotel are comparing this to a 5 star hotel experience with 5 star amenities as if Gat Rossio claims to be a luxury hotel. The room was not plentiful in space, but that’s not an issue for us as we just used it to sleep and shower. We had more than enough space for 2 people for our luggage to be laid out and open, get ready, and relax. For the noise people mention, this hotel is on a side street with restaurants. The street is emptied and quiet around 11. We had a street facing room and were able to sleep well when we went to bed before closing time. If you are an early to bed person who doesn’t do noise well, maybe this isn’t the place for you. But the location outweighs any noise in my opinion. This is a great landing pad for travelers who don’t spend a lot of time in their rooms but want to have a safe and central place to stay. They also have a lovely patio on the 1st floor where you can enjoy a night cap or a morning coffee. We have nothing bad to say about this hotel!

I recently stayed at Hotel Gat Rossio during a quick overnight in Lisbon, and I was genuinely impressed with the experience. The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of the city, just steps from Rossio Square, which made it incredibly easy to explore Lisbon even with limited time. The staff were welcoming and efficient at check-in, which I really appreciated after a long travel day. My room, though compact, was modern, spotless, and well-designed—ideal for a short stay. The minimalist decor made the space feel open and calming, and the bed was very comfortable. One of the highlights was the hotel’s location. I was able to walk to major landmarks, sample local pastries, and catch a beautiful sunset—all within a few hours. It’s the kind of place that turns even a short stop into a meaningful experience. Though I didn’t get a chance to try the breakfast, the common areas had a relaxed vibe, and everything felt well maintained. For the price and convenience, Hotel Gat Rossio delivered great value. If you're curious to see more of my experience, I actually filmed a few highlights from my stay and time in Lisbon—it's up now on my channel for anyone interested in a visual peek. I'd definitely recommend this hotel for travelers who want comfort and walkability in the city center. I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. The mos important thing, I couldn’t even sleep properly for two nights in a row because of the noise during the night, it felt as if the people were right inside my room. I requested an iron several times, and the receptionist kept saying that all of them were in use but couldn’t even tell me who had them (if the hotel doesn’t know, then who should?). When I asked again, the receptionist didn’t even bother to follow up or remember my request, and in the end, I had to buy my own iron. The breakfast was also poor and not tasty at all. For the same price, the restaurants nearby offered far better breakfast options, with coffee included. As for the room, it definitely did not justify the price we paid. This was the first hotel I stayed in that didn’t even provide coffee in the room. Considering that I also had to spend extra money to buy an iron, for the same cost I could have easily booked a room with much better conditions and more space elsewhere. Overall, I do not recommend this hotel.

This hotel is small but that is not a criticism. It offers what is needed while traveling and the location is perfect for those who want to see Lisbon by foot and public transportation. If I'm ever in Lisbon again I will stay there.

We stayed at Hotel Gat Rossio twice during our 10-day trip to Portugal and had a great experience both times. The staff were kind and respectful throughout our stay. Even when we arrived before check-in, they kindly let us store our luggage until the room was ready. While the room was on the smaller side, it was just the right size for me, my partner, and our luggage. The hotel’s central location made it easy to walk to nearby restaurants, cafés, shops, and major tourist attractions. The property also offers convenient amenities like an outdoor terrace, comfortable lounge areas, vending machines, and a breakfast service for around €15–16 per person. Overall, Hotel Gat Rossio is a clean, affordable, and well-located hotel that provides everything you need for a comfortable stay in Lisbon. Highly recommended!

The 3 of us (husband, me, 20 year old son) had a room with an upper loft.  1 double bed in loft and 1 single bed on first floor. Husband and I had to climb ladder type stairs to get to the loft. Hotel is an old building with odd layout but rooms are updated. Our room was on the 2nd floor. We had to walk a flight of stairs, walk across the terrace, walk up another set of stairs to get to our room. If you've been walking around and sightseeing all day, the last thing you want to do walk more to get to your room. The elevator in lobby will only go up 1 floor. If you have mobility issues, this may not be the hotel for you. Very small bathroom, lack of counter space in bathroom, no dresser to store your clothes and no refrigerator. One very small TV in our loft bedroom. The positives are: Excellent location with lots of restaurants, shops, train station, taxi stand, all within walking distance. Breakfast was good but they could have started it at 7 am instead of 7:30 for the guests that have an early start. Rooms are updated and very clean. Adequate air conditioning as the temperature outside was 102 degrees F/38 degrees C. We were comfortable in our room.

We recently stayed at Hotel Gat Rossio and overall had a very good experience. The location was excellent—right in the heart of Lisbon, making it easy to explore the city and access major attractions. The staff was friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any questions. The room was decent and clean, providing a comfortable place to rest after a day of sightseeing. The main downside was that there was no elevator to reach our room; we had to carry our suitcases through a corridor, across a courtyard, and up a flight of stairs. Additionally, our window faced the back, so there wasn’t much of a view. Despite these minor inconveniences, I feel that the value for the price paid was excellent. If you’re looking for a central, budget-friendly option and don’t mind a bit of extra effort getting to your room, this hotel is a solid choice. Four stars.

Great location, friendly staff, and good air conditioning which is very important to me :). The rooms are modern and clean with nice shower. The hotel is a short walk from the metro making it a very easy affordable trip from the airport and it’s close to the city center. We will stay here again if we come back to Lisbon.
