Hotel Gillow

Hotel staff were friendly and very patient with my poor excuse for Spanish. We arrived an hour early for check in and they let us in early no extra charge. You can't beat the location to explore the historic centre. Very safe.

Fantastic hotel, right in Centro with high quality rooms/facilities (anyone who's stayed in the area knows that's a bit of a gamble). Service is fantastic too!

Sheets in our first room were not clean but we were moved to a suite which was more spacious and had a balcony. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, especially housekeeping. Unfortunately, we were put on the 6th floor which would ordinarily be great but because there was no air conditioning in any rooms it was sweltering, however I can’t fault anyone for this as it is not usually so hot in CDMX. Visitors should just plan accordingly. Some downsides: Hot water would occasionally blast scalding in the showers, the window in our second room did not work and could not be opened, and there were some minor holes in the curtains. Restaurant in the building was phenomenal, 24 hr desk staff were kind and helpful, and location is great.

Decent rooms in a very old and nice hotel. Right next door to a very old and still active church. Has a restaurant with good food and in a great location two blocks from the plaza and a short walk from everything else. Very good bakery across the street also a 7-11 and many bars/restaurants within a 5 min walk.

The window was on the main drag and, only single paned, looked to be about 50 years old at least. It was good enough to keep out rain in a place that has little rain, but not to keep out noise in a place teeming with it. The transoms were wired shut, but the principal panes opened inward. The real noise started each night about 7 o’clock and continued variously until past midnight. One fellow rides up and down the street each evening with a loudspeaker blasting a two sentence message about the food he’s selling. There was a fan, but no air conditioning, so we had to keep the window open. The curtains were stained and of differing sizes. There was mold in the bathtub. And we were able to make friends with a few roaches who’d boldly come out at night. I left one for dead on the bathroom mirror. The water isn’t potable except from a dedicated tap in the hallway or from a bottle.

Staying at Hotel Gillow in the heart of Mexico City's historic district is like stepping into a time capsule. It's the kind of hotel your grandparents might have stayed at somewhere in the world.||Gillow's claim to fame undoubtedly lies in its absolutely perfect location, within walking distance of everything you'd want to see in Centro Historico.||The rooms are neat, clean, and spacious, adorned with sturdy antique furniture that exudes a pleasant atmosphere of yesteryear. With old, drafty windows and doors, our room was a tad chilly, and in the morning, the sounds of traffic from the area could be heard.||Wi-Fi worked best in the reception area, where thankfully, there are some comfortable sofas to sit on.||Breakfast is served in an adjoining restaurant and is both delicious and abundant. We had 9 choices (English, Continental, Mexican, and more) and enjoyed a plate of fresh fruit, yogurt, enchiladas, bread, and unlimited coffee. Muchas gracias!

If you are a foreigner, especially white, go somewhere else. Some of the staff are great, others hate foreigners- little racism here. Made a reservation, confirmed. Shower at 1. Room to be ready at 3. Come back and every other room is open and clean but mine is dirty. Sheets on the floor garbage it’s. Since I am paying for the room I ask that it be cleaned and a discount. I’m offered another room. Nope I reserved the one I like. Well that will be a half hour to an hour! I’ve been coming here for 15 years. This time I only came for my last day. My option has gone from love to I really should find another hotel. I’d been waiting for 3 1/2 hours

i have stayed in this hotel MANY times due to the reasonable price but after being ripped off b y their drivers out side which they take no responsibility for. Also the front desk has not called me at 3am for my wake up call to catch my plane !! the manager told me its the bell boys job?1 totally un true because the front desk used to before. Also when ive called a month before to save a particular room i like i get there and its NOT AVAILABLE this is how the staff treats clients who have been staying there twice a year since 2015 !i dont appreciate getting hardly any sleep because they purposely put me by the elevator or on noisy street. The hotel maids also did not return my leather purse i left in my room in the beginning of my trip. i know i left it there and i always tip them well. The purse was a gift from my cousin so it was sentimental. The hotel used to charge around 800 pesos a night now charge around 1200 pesos PEOPLE for 100$ hard beds, polyester sheets that itch , blankets that stink, washroom toilets that over flow , and no wake up service ?! PLUS noisy rooms ?. Stay in Zona Rosa much better quality care , considerations . That's where i will be staying . Never again will i stay in this terrible hotel.

wonderful experience this hotel is located in the perfect place. try to choose a room on the side of 5 de mayo street (not the entry side) that way the sun does not heat your room all day. management does not keep track of the ice and water on the hallway and sometime it runs out but just call and they correct the problem. this hotel is not in some websites but I really love it and it may be because they don't need it. I loved the attention, cleanliness and location.

Great location with one of the better hotel restaurants in the Centro.
