I needed a place to work from remotely to get some projects completed. Visiting Corfu for the first time while trying to get work done was tough. The island lures you in with its magic and all I wanted to do was see the beauty and swim…and eat and drink. And boy did they feed me well! ||||I arrived with the flu and a nagging cough I’ve had for months. After 6 days I was completely myself again – and not just my health – my well-being and happiness too. ||||There is nothing quite so pleasant in life as spending your days being unrushed, relaxing, doing what you would like while somebody else takes care of all the details so that you can simply focus on yourself and enjoying life. For me, my 6 days here was absolute heaven! ||||My room was so comfortable that there were times I just wanted to hibernate. The air-conditioning worked excellent in the summer heat. The bed was so comfortable I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in ages. The room was recently upgraded, and I appreciated the dressing table/desk for working, as well as the coffee/tea tray and kettle so I could enjoy hot drinks and my herbal teas. There were all the creature comforts one could ever need for a home away from home. ||||The food was out of this world amazing! The freshest tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oils, seafood…everything grown or caught on the island. It was wonderful having good home-cooked Greek favourites made with love by mama Dousis and served with love by the family. ||||I cannot thank Andreas and the family enough for everything done to make sure I was comfortable and happy. Both he and Theo are everywhere doing everything, working hard to make sure the place hummed. The staff (who are also friends and family) all engage in conversation and just want to ensure you are having a good time. You cannot want for anything more on a vacation. And also, the feeling of being completely safe and secure, especially as a woman travelling solo. ||||I truly never wanted for anything. All my requests were met with eagerness and kindness from transport arrangements to recommendations of things to do and see, to satisfying my Moussaka cravings and ensuring I could work comfortably at all times, bringing me cold drinks when needed to counter the high temperatures and answering all my questions about the island. They are all true ambassadors for Corfu! ||||There is not a single bad thing I could ever say about Golden Sunset hotel or the family. I mean this is what hospitality truly is all about. ||||They are also not intrusive and just let you get on with things which I appreciated when in the breakfast area on my laptop concentrating. ||||You arrive as guests and leave as family. The maid came every day to empty the bins and refresh the room. Everything is spotless! The amenities are like a 4-star hotel with hairdryer, fridge, safe, toiletries (including shampoo and shower gel) and plush quality towels. ||||All the rooms are blessed with the most sublime sunrise and sunset views, and I often sat on my balcony reading or enjoying the vistas. ||||The swimming pool was clean, and the deck was quiet – great for sunning or reading. I loved the small beach which is just in front of the hotel and just steps from the public beach so you have a choice of either. The water is clean and clear, and I spent hours soaking every day! ||||It was great having the mini market next door to get my swim shoes, beach towel, snacks, chocolates, Greek postcards (& stamps) and edible souvenirs. ||||Leaving was tough. I truly wanted to stay another 3 days but sadly could not. But now that I know where heaven is, I will make it a goal to go back again in the hopefully near future. ||||If you’re ever stressed out and need to get back your sanity, do yourself a favour and stay at Golden Sunset Hotel. It WILL change your life.
