Stay away. The photos you see here do not reflect the quality of the rooms. Our room was small. Clean, no doubt, but only with the very essential. The reception desk is not occupied after 9.30 pm. Would it not have been for some friendly guests which helped us get in and find a phone to call the some clerk, we would have stayed outside the hotel. Verycstrange for a hotel where you have prebooked a room.

We like that this historic was rescued from decay by an extensive renovation in the mid 1990's. We loved having a bath tub as well as a shower. We loved the big comfortable bed. We loved the location in the town centre.||Most of all we enjoyed the excellent German breakfast, with Sekt, smoked salmon and proper freshly-baked croissant amongst the offerings.||We didn't like our top floor room being under the eves of the roof. The sloping ceiling meant having to duck in order to get into bed. We found the 1990's fixtures and fittings a bit dated, including the thick, small-screen 'flat' TV. There was no kettle in the room to make tea/coffee. The hotel would have been fantastic when it re-opened 30 years ago, but today it feels 'tired'. There were some unpleasant smells between the reception desk and a back entrance through which we inadvertently entered the property on arrival||We paid 93 euros for a Monday overnight stay in low-season mid March, for bed and breakfast, and are glad we didn't pay any more than that,

Nice hotel right in the centre of town, the parking lot is about 300 metres from the hotel, which is a pleasant walk. 10 Euros for the night. This was just a quick overnight stop to visit the Meissen factory. Our room was pleasant, the bed was comfortable and breakfast was the typical layout but with the added benefit of ordering eggs either fried or scrambled. We went out for a beer down the road before retiring for the evening.

You probably consider going to Dresden. You know the bombed City with the restored Frauenkirche - well, don't! Go to the real beauty, the houses that hasn't been rebuilt because they havn't been destroyed, a small City that wasn't bombed at all during the war.||Yes, Meissen - 20 kilometers north of overcrowed-with-tourist-Dresden. Here in Meissen lives 30.000 sachsens in a nice, quite fairytail-town with lots of restaurants, Germanys oldest Castle, the river Elben a glimpse away and of course a great Hotel: Goldener Löwe. That is where you should stay, and if you're lucky you get Room nr 103, a Junior Suite with a nice view to a square, a huge suite and a luxury bathroom. ||Included is a great breakfast with eggs and bacon, a lot of other good stuff - and sekt! The germans has got a great idea: lets drink sekt, sparkling wine, for breakfast! It makes the day so much better from the start :)||The Hotel offers private (and paid) parking, we used it, but are not sure whether it was necessary. It is a very peacefull place.||Goldener Löwe is placed in the absolute center of the little town and you can walk to anything: The museum for Meissen china (porcelain), the Castle and the Dome, the River Elb, and to all the good restaurants and cafés.||But do bring your car and take on excursions in the countryside - it was here Casper David Friedrich, the great painter, was inspired for many of his best paintings. There is The Sachsien Switzerland, and there is a wineroute - they make a decent whitewine here. But forget about Dresden - and if you must go, and your probably must, then take only half a day and hurry back to Meissen...

The hotel is centrally located, within walking distance to the historical centre of the town. It's a bit hard to find but once there you are glad you found it. Parking costs 10 Euros a day if you choose to park the car at a private parking place which is only 300 meters away. However, you can also park right in front of the hotel at the parking site which has park meters. Though the night is free you need to get up early morning to feed the meter! We preferred the private parking place. Beware of speed limits. The town is very strict. We were only 8 kmh over the speed limit and got a ticket!||The hotel is very pleasant and the reception exceptionally customer oriented and friendly. The room was rather large, yet tastefully decorated. The town itself is not very large but quaint.

The hotel makes a very beautiful old impression without which it acts ruined or down. It combines very beautiful there old with new. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even really charming and also with wit and enthusiasm at work. Priced unfortunately very expensive. The bathroom was still fraught with some hairs that were not of us. The tub, the tub faucets and shower in the tub was more ugly. The drain of the tub was rusted and not invited to linger therein. The look did not match the rest of the hotel and was completely inappropriate and rather shabby. Nevertheless, we were happy there. Except for the bathroom and the rather expensive price a nice hotel with good staff

Extremely disappointing to be a guest at this hotel and having to pay for parking bicycles in the hotel courtyard (non-functional area). Surely it would be encouraged to be cycling through these towns and not be charged for keeping your bike overnight on the property. These costs were not advertised on the website or at time of booking. We recently did a bike trip down the Rhine River (more touristy) and hotels were so welcoming of cyclists and ensured the bicycles were stored in safe places overnight at NO CHARGE!

The Hotel is right in the historical centre of Meissen - which is known for it’s porcelain, but is beautifully located by the river Elbe and around a steep hill with a great walkway which goes around the cathedral on the top. The hotel itself is very beautiful, historical and well kept with old, stylish room furniture and a beautiful breakfast area with alfresco paintings on the wall.
