If you're a shopper like me, you'll love the location as there's plenty of variety within the centre. This property is straight across the street from the Cowboys Leagues club. You could walk to the stadium as well from here and not worry too much about having a bevvy. The views from the Grand Chancellor in Townsville is absolutely breathtaking with blackout curtains which open up to a full sight of the city and surrounds. I'll definitely return as the weather in August was superb and outside of school holidays. Well priced hotel which was clean, practical and a great location.

An older hotel that has been refurbished, check in staff were great, we chose a room with a balcony intentionally - balcony is very small and shows the building's age - bannister was loose, not somewhere you'd want to sit (and unlikely a room chair would fit out there). We were on the 17th floor, street noise was fine until musice at the markets started around 0730, I wouldn't stay here on a Sat night again unless I planned for an early start. In general we had a comfortable stay until the morning - at approx 8.40 we had intended to go get breakfast but the lifts wouldn't work. None of them, including the service lifts. I walked down to the next floor to see if theirs worked, no luck. We tried to call reception to confirm what was happening but the phone in the room simply didn't work (plugged in but no dial tones). One of us has mobility issues so we knew if we were going to have to take the stairs down 17 flights, we'd have to start soon. Tried to call reception from our mobiles to get more info, no answer for 20 mins. Packed up our bags and when we tried lifts again at approx 0915, they were working. On check out when I asked, the young gentleman said they had a fire alarm on level 5 so the lifts have to be shut down. That is fine but it is unacceptable that they don't have a way of those on other floors to know what is happening. Particularly if the room phone doesn't work at all, and reception don't answer. Will never stay here again and will be telling visiting friends and family to avoid, not worth the risk.

Location was great, staff were friendly and efficient and we were given a late checkout at 12pm which was helpful. Room was tired and the draws for the kettle etc remained open and could not be closed? Gave the place a bit of a leaning tower of Pisa feel? Coffee shop at ground level was superb!

Lovely service from staff and very funny concierge. Room was very clean and easy access. Good view from the rooms. Only issue we had is that the paid parking is not in the same building so you will have to do a small walk.

Very clean, spacious rooms. Helpful staff. Bed comfortable. It is an older hotel but has had some renovations. New carpet.||Great location, opposite Cowboys Club so if you don’t want to eat in the hotel you can get great meals across the road. Close to shops, markets on Sunday outside the front of the hotel. Nice vibes.||Didn’t try the reasonably priced buffet breakfast but it certainly seemed very popular. Lovely cafe right next door with good coffee.

The service from the reception staff was impeccable over my three day stay. They were exceptionally helpful, friendly and understanding, couldn’t do enough. thank you! The location was also amazing - so very convenient! The room, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. Paint was peeling, there was no phone (made it difficult to call reception or order room service), and a missing TV remote. The bes was very comfy though. Also, let’s talk about the shower. I’ve travelled a lot and can honestly say this was absolutely the worst hotel shower I’ve ever encountered. Water pressure was great when the cold was turned on. On ‘hot’, it was literally a trickle. Also, ‘hot’ was Luke warm. I was literally shivering after a hot shower. I would have asked for another room, but I know the hotel was full.

Maybe it was good once upon a time but it is terrible now.. |In town for a family footy trip ( other members of club all had similar experience) ||On arrival was informed the price had nearly doubled from what we booked. |Told no parking ( full, but parking was apart of booking) then once we weren’t happy enough, we were given parking & found half the carpark empty for duration. So why we were told onsite parking was full when it wasn’t was stressful for no reason…. ||Room was small & not clean. Cockroaches in draws. Amenities are basic. No water, no microwave, no cups or cutlery. |They had bumped the price to $350 a night from $190 due to footy carnival, you’d expect the basics. ||Would never return.

We held the Queensland Scrabble Championship In the Pandora Room. The event was a huge success and a great deal of that was due to the accommodating attitude of the functions team and hotel staff. Visitors came from all over the country and New Zealand and loved the venue and the rooms (I'm a local so I stayed at home). immediately after the event I already had people coming up and asking me to run another Scrabble festival in Townsville next year. Thank you so much Hotel Grand Chancellor, you were fabulous!
