Hotel Grand Chancellor Townsville

Stayed here May 2025, largely due to rooftop pool. Of course we get there it’s closed for repair. Lifts very slow and requires patience. Central location which is good. Room quiet and great view eastwards.

The Sugar Shaker- had a function here, stayed the night in a 1 Bedroom Room with a bed set up in the main area for a 3rd person. Function meal was good, service was good, bed and pillows were comfy and room airport conditioning rather good and kept the room quite comfortable. Buffet breakfast was smashing too.

Honestly can not fault my stay or my experience. The beds and pillows were amazingly comfortable ( which is most important to me when staying away from home) the staff where great and the location was excellent. Parking was a pain - but thats life I guess

An older hotel that has been refurbished, check in staff were great, we chose a room with a balcony intentionally - balcony is very small and shows the building's age - bannister was loose, not somewhere you'd want to sit (and unlikely a room chair would fit out there). We were on the 17th floor, street noise was fine until musice at the markets started around 0730, I wouldn't stay here on a Sat night again unless I planned for an early start. In general we had a comfortable stay until the morning - at approx 8.40 we had intended to go get breakfast but the lifts wouldn't work. None of them, including the service lifts. I walked down to the next floor to see if theirs worked, no luck. We tried to call reception to confirm what was happening but the phone in the room simply didn't work (plugged in but no dial tones). One of us has mobility issues so we knew if we were going to have to take the stairs down 17 flights, we'd have to start soon. Tried to call reception from our mobiles to get more info, no answer for 20 mins. Packed up our bags and when we tried lifts again at approx 0915, they were working. On check out when I asked, the young gentleman said they had a fire alarm on level 5 so the lifts have to be shut down. That is fine but it is unacceptable that they don't have a way of those on other floors to know what is happening. Particularly if the room phone doesn't work at all, and reception don't answer. Will never stay here again and will be telling visiting friends and family to avoid, not worth the risk.

Upon arrival we were informed that the specific room we had booked weeks earlier was not available, it was not made clear as to what that reason was. We had specifically booked the one-bedroom executive suite based on a previous stay. Staff informed us that we had a choice of a room on the 7th floor or a Suite overlooking the water , based on their advice we took the King Room overlooking the water , This room was a standard king room with a double bed , no lounge , small tv with a balcony that was 4 feet long and 2 feet wide on the 18th floor , was actually quite terrifying to stand out there. The whole situation was really disappointing as we were really looking forward to the executive suite as a treat. You have forever lost our business, and we cannot recommend you to anyone we may know. All in all, a very unprofessional and disappointing effort by your Business.

Location was great, staff were friendly and efficient and we were given a late checkout at 12pm which was helpful. Room was tired and the draws for the kettle etc remained open and could not be closed? Gave the place a bit of a leaning tower of Pisa feel? Coffee shop at ground level was superb!

Great location in the heart of Townsville city. Friendly welcome. Rooms a bit small but everything works and they are clean, showers hot and the beds very comfortable. Lots of restaurants and pubs in walking distance. Best views in town and nice rooftop pool.

We have booked the ‘best’ suite|On offer for a milestone family birthday event that we traveled from rural SEQ to attend .. ||Air con that won’t go below 25.5C and a room that didn’t meet our expectations ||After speaking with the staff we were moved from 1906 to 1907- a comparable room with the offer of free breakfast for the 3 nights we will be here to make up for the issue.. sadly , while the staff did the best they could, the alternative room, while cooler is still ‘inferior’ for what we thought we were paying for via Qantas Hotel bookings.|Curtains that won’t close .|Single glazed windows that are west facing and scorching to touch.|Atmosphere is lacking - all top lights , no lamps or soft furnishings -|It’s cold and stark .. the TV is too small to watch from the couch ( smaller than room 1906) and overall very disappointing ..|Partner has stayed here before and suggested the Grand Chancellor when my preferred hotel wasn’t avail.|Will not recommend or stay here again.
