Grandes Rousses Hotel & Spa Alpe d'Huez

We stayed here for a short break in December. We had a family room with mezzanine which worked ok for our family. The hotel is well situated for the slopes with access via the lift just opposite hotel and (with enough snow ) ability to ski back to hotel. Ski hire from the hotel was efficient and friendly. The atmosphere in hotel is pleasant but a bit pretentious and this takes away from genuine friendly atmosphere. Not our preference ! The food was disappointing- and we regretted having paid for half board. The menu was traditional, meaty & cream-heavy. Flavours were mostly uninteresting and sometimes bizarre. For a family who likes to eat healthily and meat-free 50% of the time, the menu didn’t suit us (we barely saw a vegetable during our stay! ) The children’s menu was the same every day. Although on the last day the staff did offer a smaller version of the set menu for the children If preferred. On balance the stay didn’t feel good value but we still had a nice time. The staff were friendly and tried really hard to be helpful.

Nice enough hotel, not a 5 star more a 3/4 star. Rooms are dated, bar area nice and staff all helpful. Location is good to get to slopes, room service menu very limited, no hotel car to take you anywhere and one restaurant was closed which we had a booking at and only told at short notice. The main restaurant looked dead whenever open.

The Hotel is in a great location, ideal for skiing, apres ski and dinner in the evening. It’s clean and staff are friendly and polite however our room was not cleaned for 2 days. We were out all day and not back until 4pm ish so plenty of time! Breakfast is self service which is fine, you can order hot drinks and eggs through the waiting staff, the issues we found though were the hot water, filter coffee were consistently empty and getting someone to refill was hard. 2 out of 3 of the mornings there were no clean tables, very sparse food and no cows milk. I appreciate we went over new year so a busier time of year and it is still early on in the season but for a 5* hotel it was a bit disappointing. We have booked to go back later in the season so let’s hope the issues have been sorted.

We had an incredible stay in July with my wife, 4 month old son and dog. It was a beautiful setting to enjoy the fantastic facilities outdoors. The staff were so attentive and kind. Thank you so much to Sara for the upgrade of the room to the suite. This meant we had a great place for relaxation when the little one was sleeping and the views from the balcony were incredible. The great touches of the baby items, dog treats and bed made it even more special. This place is a must! We will be back and can't recommend this hotel more! Summer time in the Alps 10/10

Hotel itself is a ok hotel a nice 4 star. The outdoor pool was never at temperature. Breafast are really poor also. We paid 900 per night over new year and it was far from worth it.

I had a great stay at this hotel! The view from the balcony was awesome, and the room was nicely decorated, which made my visit even better. The hotel’s interior looks good and creates a nice atmosphere. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly, and they welcomed us with tea and cookies when we arrived, which was a nice touch. I really enjoyed the weekend breakfast; it was very good with lots of choices. However, during the low season, the weekday breakfast is pretty basic and does not have any hot dishes. Overall, I had a great time and would recommend this place for a nice getaway!

Really lovely hotel in a gorgeous setting. The rooms are quirky and really atmospheric, beds are super comfy.||The spa is a great place to relax but it feels a bit odd knowing you pay for an hour and so are constantly watching the clock.||The bar is a wonderful place to enjoy a pre dinner cocktail (what a view)||Staff really friendly and helpful.||The only disappointing thing I would say was the food in the hotel, the breakfast was always cold. On one evening we ate dinner in the main restaurant and were advised to eat the pasta because the chef was Italian, well it was very underwhelming and really not pleasant at all, we also could not believe the price of wine, it was ridiculous, I mean you are in France and everywhere else it was incredibly reasonable, so why the crazy prize tag here.

We had a great stay at the hotel but the 3 stars is because when paying at the end our card was charged twice by mistake by the lady at reception. 4 days later we are still trying to get a refund after numerous calls asking for the situation to be corrected and different people including the General Manager saying it has been done - the most disappointing bit is there hasn’t really been an apology made for the mistake, just quite a lot of defensive commentary. So far still no refund ….. !

I booked the hotel for a group of 13 cyclists at the end of a ten day trip from Biarritz, via the Pyrenees, Mont Ventoux and the Alps. It could not have been a better choice in which to celebrate and recuperate. The staff were without fail helpful and welcoming - a stark contrast to some we had met on previous evenings in our journey. Dinner was a delight. All in all, I heartily recommend the hotel - and a big thank you to all the lovely people who work there.

This was a chance visit. We had booked a chalet for 16 but then 17 wanted to come. We chose the Grandes Rousses for me and my wife to stay in as it was close. What a great decision! From the first night it exceeded all expectations. A warm welcome and all the staff were lovely. The food was exquisite and the facilities were great. Particular mention must be made of the dining room staff and the sommelier. Didn't have a chance to sample the spa but having the ski shop on site was a bonus. The position of the hotel is perfect. All the details of the bar, the music and the resident sheep made it very memorable.
