Hotel Grano De Oro

If I could give this place 1000 stars, I would. Our stay here has been nothing but incredible. The staff, the room, the food, everything has been amazing. We have felt very welcomed here, if you are wondering where to stay in San José, this is the place! The bed is so comfortable, the pillows are next level cozy, and my goodness, the shower pressure is top notch. I really want to thank Kenneth for being the absolute best, your cocktails were delicious, your hospitality is amazing. Everyone has been so kind to us, I really can’t thank them enough.

Splendid private Victorian home converted into a hotel. Impeccable attention to detail, from the common areas decor, with botanical garden level of plant design, to the furniture and wall decor. We are here on a Christmas vacation, and on every door hangs a beautiful stocking, and the Christmas decorations throughout the hotel are beautiful and in style with building. Impeccably clean rooms and bathrooms, and the level of maintenance is very high. Fridge is stocked with free refreshments, Nespresso-type coffee maker (the Britt coffee is the BOMB!), laundry service, 24-hour reception, free parking. Upstairs you will find a lovely spa area with hot tubs, chaise longues and fitness equipment. A special mention deserve the beds: I normally find fault with most hotel beds due to an achy back, but have been waking up rested and pain-free... Overall, a level of warmth, elegance, comfort and amenities hard to find in Costa Rica.

Very nice, small hotel with everything you need. Kind service. The breakfast was included and served in the hotels restaurant which offers french kitchen. It was the day of our arrival and we wanted to try some local traditional food. The recommendation 'Nuestra Tierra' by the attentive receptionist was sadly a tourist trap. Next time we'd have dinner in the restaurant because breakfast on the next morning was delicious. They have almond milk as milk alternative. We could choose a fresh juice among a huge variety which was great. They offer a huge variety of brealfast options too. Unfortunatelly they said that the crep for breakfast is very small and we should better take something else for breakfast. I wonder why not all offered breakfast options are around the same size?

My best friend and I stayed at Hotel Grano de Oro in San Jose Costa Rica from Dec 5-Dec 8 2025. We were in town for the Bad Bunny concert which was a birthday present for me from my husband and my best friend. We had the most incredible time and we loved the hotel. The service was extremely personalized and they made us feel very special. One of the concierge contacts, Brandon provided all of the options for excursions, helped us book reservations, and helped us book massages. He answered all of my questions (there were many!) and was so kind, professional and patient. They had a birthday message and fruit plate in the room for us when we arrived which was also very sweet. We got a massage at the hotel which was amazing. Best massage I’ve ever had. The masseuse was incredible! My favorite employee at the hotel was Roman who was a bartender and server at the restaurant. He gave us amazing recommendations for night life and even found us a gym outside of the hotel as my friend and I wanted to try a more intense work out. Roman was so kind and thoughtful. He always greeted us with a smile and he really made our stay unforgettable. I fell in love with the beautiful people of Costa Rica and with this hotel. What an amazing experience!

Stayed for one night at the end of our holiday to Costa Rica to place ourselves closer to San Jose airport for the flight home. A lovely hotel, the service is first class as was the food, we had both dinner and breakfast. Rooms are more than comfortable and true to the ambience of the hotel although slightly on the warm side, we had the pleasure of being upgraded to a patio room. Location is a short walk in either direction to the main areas of interest within the city. If you’re in San Jose it’s a recommended option.

This hotel went above and beyond during our stay. The grounds are beautiful and the restaurant was delicious. Marco and the staff at the front desk treated us like family in a time we needed it most. We will be forever thankful! If we are back in the area the choice of hotel will be an easy decision. Thank you!!

We really enjoyed our stay here! The customer service was outstanding. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The restaurant is delicious. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a beautiful unique place to stay inSan Jose.

Horrible experience. We stayed two nights, during the morning of the first we heard animals on the roof and what seemed like normal animal life in Costa Rica. The next night very early in the morning it was clear there were animals in the walls and ceiling. We had an early flight to catch so we didn't try to change rooms. I suspect there are more rooms affected as the wall we felt animals were in was immediately adjacent to another room. Also the breakfast service was very poor. We did sit at the bar and had dinner one night and those were good experiences. We will not stay at this hotel again.
