Great place to stay in tranquil beautiful surroundings and if you're lucky a view of Mt Fuji. Was easy to get to (bus J from Odawara station, which took about 40 minutes longer than the expected 50 minutes due to traffic near the ropeway around noon. But the views are really spectacular). Short easy 5 minute walk from bus stop to hotel (ignore other reviews). We had Japanese style room for two. Plenty of space and great view of Fuji from the room. The bathrooms clean and perfectly fine but a bit dated. However not a problem. The onsen experience felt very traditional and really enjoyed it. I'm vegetarian and there were quite a few options in the buffet (breakfast and dinner) which was appreciated . When we left we used the great hotel shuttle to drop us at Minami Onsenso where we picked up the T bus to take us back to Odawara train station (around 50 minutes) The staff at hotel were super helpful and overall it was a great, relaxing stay.

We have a lovely stay at this hotel. I totally agree with the 4+ ⭐️ Google rating but I am very surprised by some of the negative feedback/comments. Let’s start with getting to the hotel. We travelled by public transport. The hotel offer a shuttle service to the nearby bus stop (Minami-onsenso) and ropeway station (Ubako). You can communicate with the hotel by email. They are very responsive. The shuttle picked us up within 10 minutes. What service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The location is excellent. Weather dependant, but you have a great view of Mt. Fuji from the garden and the onsen. The room is spacious, comfortable and has all the amenities that you need. You get slippers and kimono to use. The onsen is excellent and has a nice view. It was not crowded when we visited. The hotel is half board. Dinner is buffet style. The food choice was very good and the equally of food is excellent for a buffet. The same is true for breakfast. Most people wear kimono for dinner and only small number for breakfast. There was a pianist playing in the lobby after dinner so it was nice to chill there. In summary, this is an excellent hotel. It has a lot to offer. The location is very convenient. The staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back. If you are interested, you need to book in advance as it does get booked up quickly. Highly recommended.

Wonderful ryokan experience in a traditional Japanese-style room with futon and yukata. We were lucky enough to see Mt. Fuji from our room early in the morning. The onsen was incredibly relaxing and definitely a must-try experience. Breakfast and dinner were amazing, with plenty of options including freshly prepared sushi and beef. The location is also very convenient — just a few minutes’ walk (or free shuttle service) from the Hakone Ropeway.

Everything was lovely. The weather was lousy so we stayed mostly at the hotel onsen, and was incredibly happy with the quality of the onsens. Dinner was a buffet with some interesting options. Breakfast was similar to other hotels, but more variety. We were a bit surprised by how Western the dining room set up was given the traditional elements elsewhere in the hotel, but can only presume this is to achieve a happy medium between the Hakone experience and expectations some Western travellers have. ||Loved the 300m walking trail between the hotel and the ropeway station. It was so quick and easy to take the ropeway up and down.||It rained while we stayed, so no Fuji views but I imagine they’d be lovely from the garden on a good day.||Bathrooms are small but functional. We used the onsen so much we never needed the shower in our room.||A cute gift shop and cafe on the ground floor. Self-service coffee machine in the lobby.||Only reason we don’t give the room a 5/5 rating is there was only 1 pillow each. We possibly could have asked for another, but only stayed 1 night and it was late before we realised. Beds were firm, but I liked it. The rooms are HUGE by what we’ve encountered in other Japanese hotels. The daybed beside the window is a nice spot.

From the outside, the place doesn’t look too great, but step into one of their rooms and you’ll love their Japanese style set up! We’d love to go back and stay there again. Ryokan style place. Worth it!!||Beds were low to the floor, but you can also pull out the thick floor mattress pads and sleep like the Japanese did/do. Rooms come with a Japanese robe, sandals, and hygiene items (toothbrush, brush, cotton swabs). Our room had a table and chairs (where you sit on the floor). ||Onsite is a Japanese bathhouse. The best thing here! Spas use mineral hot spring water!! We wore our robes and grabbed our hygiene and skincare stuff. Be ready for a traditional experience (everyone is naked). Men’s only and women’s only sections. Spas were wonderful! One was inside and the other was outside. We went late March and it was freezing, but going in the hot springs outside was amazing. Plus, it snowed! Spa is under an awning so it didn’t directly snow on us, but it snowed just outside the overhang. Beautiful!!! And while walking back to our rooms while in our Japanese robes, it snowed again! What an experience!! ||Buffet onsite. Food is decent. Traditional mo Japanese food. ||Local attractions to try: pirate ship (20 mins from one end to the other) and gondola ride. Beware: sulfur springs in the area make it smell like rotten eggs. When you get to the top of the gondola ride, get the cooked black egg! It’s cooked in the hot grounds there.

I have not been to a hot spring hotel and I don’t know whether this is the norm. But if you use the normal hotel scale, this place is below average. First of all , they don’t let anybody check in before 3pm. There is no restaurant or cafe on site that serves lunch. So guests have to wait for check in on an empty stomach. There is no place to even buy a snack. The gift/ convenience shop is also closed from 11am to 3pm. This hotel is in the middle of nowhere, up in the hills, with no shops or restaurants within walking distance. ||We had a room with an open air bath with Mt. Fuji view. It sounds really nice. But these rooms are on the lowest floor and when we opened the door to the room, it has a musty, weird smell. I was afraid it was mold. They have 2 machines in the room but we didn’t know what they are since we don’t read Japanese. My guess is one is an air purifier and the other, a dehumidifier. We turned both on and that cleared the awful smell in a while. |Breakfast and dinner are included. Both are buffet style and include both Japanese and Western food. The western food is mostly tasteless. They serve roast beef but they only give you 3 tiny pieces each time. Very stingy. The only acceptable western dish is spaghetti bolognese. I had it 3 nights in a row since nothing else is any good. They serve it in a cereal bowl, again, tiny portions. Worst thing is that the dishes are the same every day. Quality of the food is worse than dorm food. |We have to take a taxi to go out for lunch. We asked the front desk for recommendations and they directed us to a restaurant. We took a cab there and the restaurant was closed because it’s a Monday. You would think the front desk staff would ascertain that before sending us there. |As I said, I don’t know whether all onsen places are like this, terrible food, no lunch place on site, relatively untrained staff. But I have never ever stayed in a hotel like this. I don’t think it meets the most basic hotel standards. Very disappointing. It gives the impression that it is relying on its hot spring and view of Mt. Fuji to attract guests. The place looks tired, needs renovation. |I am sorry to say that I cannot recommend this place.

Overpriced and Underwhelming – Not a Luxury Experience We booked this hotel expecting a luxury stay, but it fell far short. Positives: - Great location with easy access to the Ubako Ropeway, connecting us to several sightseeing spots. - The buffet offered a good variety of both Western and Japanese dishes (though the same food was served every night). - The onsen has a view of Mount Fuji when the weather is clear. - Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Negatives: - The room is significantly overpriced at ¥41,050 per night. - The interior felt dated, with peeling paint, possible mold spots, and wallpaper coming off the walls. - The bathroom was small and outdated, and the room had a damp smell. - The onsen itself was smaller than expected, with just one small indoor and one small outdoor bath — not what you'd anticipate for a hotel marketed as a relaxing onsen retreat. - An additional onsen fee is charged per night, which we felt should be included in the already steep room rate — especially since it’s a key reason for staying here. Even if you don’t use the onsen, the fee still applies, which felt unreasonable. - We paid extra for a “Mount Fuji view" room, but unfortunately didn’t get a single clear view during our stay (understandably not the hotel’s fault, but disappointing nonetheless). - The traditional Japanese Mount Fuji view room does not include a balcony, which makes enjoying any potential view more difficult. - The on-site “convenience store” was very limited in terms of food and basic amenities. Since the hotel is far from other stores and the ropeway stops running at 5 PM, this was inconvenient. - We booked this hotel expecting a luxury experience, but it did not live up to that standard. While the location and views can be beautiful under the right conditions, the overall experience did not justify the premium price. The facilities are outdated, and the added fees felt excessive. I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it as a luxury experience

Hotel Green Plaza Hakone is a wonderful Japanese-style spa resort that offers a true retreat experience. We stayed one night in a spacious Japanese-Western room, which had two Western beds and a large tatami seating area that converted into a cozy futon sleeping space—sleeping on a futon was surprisingly comfortable!||Yes, it takes a little effort to get there (train, cable car, gondola from Odawara Station), but that’s part of the charm. Once you arrive, you’re at the foot of Mt. Fuji, surrounded by nature, and fully immersed in a traditional onsen atmosphere.||The lobby offers complimentary tea in the afternoons, but you’ll want to be out exploring—Lake Ashi, nearby sulfur springs (don’t miss the famous black eggs!), and stunning views are all close by. In the evening, most guests wear their hotel-provided yukata and slippers to dinner, which adds to the charm.||Dinner is a highlight—an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring made-to-order sushi, sashimi, tempura, soba, curry, sukiyaki, carved steak, and more (our daughter went back six times!). Drinks are extra, but there’s a full bar. After dinner, unwind in the onsen baths, open until midnight—definitely a must-do.||While we weren’t the only foreigners, the hotel seems to cater mostly to a local crowd, which we really appreciated. Staff speak English and made everything easy.||After the fast pace of Tokyo, Hakone offered the perfect slow-down. This stay was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.
