Great place to stay in tranquil beautiful surroundings and if you're lucky a view of Mt Fuji. Was easy to get to (bus J from Odawara station, which took about 40 minutes longer than the expected 50 minutes due to traffic near the ropeway around noon. But the views are really spectacular). Short easy 5 minute walk from bus stop to hotel (ignore other reviews). We had Japanese style room for two. Plenty of space and great view of Fuji from the room. The bathrooms clean and perfectly fine but a bit dated. However not a problem. The onsen experience felt very traditional and really enjoyed it. I'm vegetarian and there were quite a few options in the buffet (breakfast and dinner) which was appreciated . When we left we used the great hotel shuttle to drop us at Minami Onsenso where we picked up the T bus to take us back to Odawara train station (around 50 minutes) The staff at hotel were super helpful and overall it was a great, relaxing stay.

The view and the rotenburo is clearly awesome. I had the chance to be able to see the sunrise on Mount Fuji without any cloud while enjoying the outbath, unforgivable experience. The room itself was a traditional japanese one, very enjoyable and authentic. The bathroom wasn't very clean (the bath curtain had some old mold) and probably hasn't change since the opening. The dining place was way too noisy to my taste, a very big room that will feel like a dining hall more than a restaurant. The ropeway was not functioning and the bus refused the Hakone pass (which I had paid long before and couldn't use once while in the region). The hotel shuttle wasn't helpful since I was told it wasn't made to bring guests to Owakudani. The staff was very helpfull. Also, please know that bandages for tatoo are sold 800 yens a piece at the reception and that they are mandatory to cover your tatoos.

Hands down the best hotel we have ever stayed at! Everything from A to Z was absolutely amazing, the service, the location, the room, wow. We booked a Mount Fuji view room, which is quite expensive (around 500 to 700 CAD per night), but completely worth it, especially since both breakfast and dinner are included. The room was extremely spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed. They even surprised us with a box of local cookies for our honeymoon, which was such a thoughtful touch. You are also provided with a yukata (a light Japanese robe) to wear around the hotel, a lovely cultural experience. Every detail was perfect. Worth every dollar, and we would 100 percent come back!

We have a lovely stay at this hotel. I totally agree with the 4+ ⭐️ Google rating but I am very surprised by some of the negative feedback/comments. Let’s start with getting to the hotel. We travelled by public transport. The hotel offer a shuttle service to the nearby bus stop (Minami-onsenso) and ropeway station (Ubako). You can communicate with the hotel by email. They are very responsive. The shuttle picked us up within 10 minutes. What service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The location is excellent. Weather dependant, but you have a great view of Mt. Fuji from the garden and the onsen. The room is spacious, comfortable and has all the amenities that you need. You get slippers and kimono to use. The onsen is excellent and has a nice view. It was not crowded when we visited. The hotel is half board. Dinner is buffet style. The food choice was very good and the equally of food is excellent for a buffet. The same is true for breakfast. Most people wear kimono for dinner and only small number for breakfast. There was a pianist playing in the lobby after dinner so it was nice to chill there. In summary, this is an excellent hotel. It has a lot to offer. The location is very convenient. The staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back. If you are interested, you need to book in advance as it does get booked up quickly. Highly recommended.

Wonderful ryokan experience in a traditional Japanese-style room with futon and yukata. We were lucky enough to see Mt. Fuji from our room early in the morning. The onsen was incredibly relaxing and definitely a must-try experience. Breakfast and dinner were amazing, with plenty of options including freshly prepared sushi and beef. The location is also very convenient — just a few minutes’ walk (or free shuttle service) from the Hakone Ropeway.

Stayed for 2 nights and had an excellent experience. The restaurant breakfast and dinner buffets are great with lots of choice. Staff are very helpful and patient, one staff helped us to send our luggage to our next hotel, making it an easy and pleasant experience overall and stay at Hotel Green Plaza.

Everything was lovely. The weather was lousy so we stayed mostly at the hotel onsen, and was incredibly happy with the quality of the onsens. Dinner was a buffet with some interesting options. Breakfast was similar to other hotels, but more variety. We were a bit surprised by how Western the dining room set up was given the traditional elements elsewhere in the hotel, but can only presume this is to achieve a happy medium between the Hakone experience and expectations some Western travellers have. ||Loved the 300m walking trail between the hotel and the ropeway station. It was so quick and easy to take the ropeway up and down.||It rained while we stayed, so no Fuji views but I imagine they’d be lovely from the garden on a good day.||Bathrooms are small but functional. We used the onsen so much we never needed the shower in our room.||A cute gift shop and cafe on the ground floor. Self-service coffee machine in the lobby.||Only reason we don’t give the room a 5/5 rating is there was only 1 pillow each. We possibly could have asked for another, but only stayed 1 night and it was late before we realised. Beds were firm, but I liked it. The rooms are HUGE by what we’ve encountered in other Japanese hotels. The daybed beside the window is a nice spot.

I have not been to a hot spring hotel and I don’t know whether this is the norm. But if you use the normal hotel scale, this place is below average. First of all , they don’t let anybody check in before 3pm. There is no restaurant or cafe on site that serves lunch. So guests have to wait for check in on an empty stomach. There is no place to even buy a snack. The gift/ convenience shop is also closed from 11am to 3pm. This hotel is in the middle of nowhere, up in the hills, with no shops or restaurants within walking distance. ||We had a room with an open air bath with Mt. Fuji view. It sounds really nice. But these rooms are on the lowest floor and when we opened the door to the room, it has a musty, weird smell. I was afraid it was mold. They have 2 machines in the room but we didn’t know what they are since we don’t read Japanese. My guess is one is an air purifier and the other, a dehumidifier. We turned both on and that cleared the awful smell in a while. |Breakfast and dinner are included. Both are buffet style and include both Japanese and Western food. The western food is mostly tasteless. They serve roast beef but they only give you 3 tiny pieces each time. Very stingy. The only acceptable western dish is spaghetti bolognese. I had it 3 nights in a row since nothing else is any good. They serve it in a cereal bowl, again, tiny portions. Worst thing is that the dishes are the same every day. Quality of the food is worse than dorm food. |We have to take a taxi to go out for lunch. We asked the front desk for recommendations and they directed us to a restaurant. We took a cab there and the restaurant was closed because it’s a Monday. You would think the front desk staff would ascertain that before sending us there. |As I said, I don’t know whether all onsen places are like this, terrible food, no lunch place on site, relatively untrained staff. But I have never ever stayed in a hotel like this. I don’t think it meets the most basic hotel standards. Very disappointing. It gives the impression that it is relying on its hot spring and view of Mt. Fuji to attract guests. The place looks tired, needs renovation. |I am sorry to say that I cannot recommend this place.

Yelp
From the outside, the place doesn't look too great, but step into one of their rooms and you'll love their Japanese style set up! We'd love to go back and stay there again. Ryokan style place. Worth it!! Beds were low to the floor, but you can also pull out the thick floor mattress pads and sleep like the Japanese did/do. Rooms come with a Japanese robe, sandals, and hygiene items (toothbrush, brush, cotton swabs). Our room had a table and chairs (where you sit on the floor). Onsite is a Japanese bathhouse. The best thing here! Spas use mineral hot spring water!! We wore our robes and grabbed our hygiene and skincare stuff. Be ready for a traditional experience (everyone is naked). Men's only and women's only sections. Spas were wonderful! One was inside and the other was outside. We went late March and it was freezing, but going in the hot springs outside was amazing. Plus, it snowed! Spa is under an awning so it didn't directly snow on us, but it snowed just outside the overhang. Beautiful!!! And while walking back to our rooms while in our Japanese robes, it snowed again! What an experience!! Buffet onsite. Food is decent. Traditional mo Japanese food. Local attractions to try: pirate ship (20 mins from one end to the other) and gondola ride. Beware: sulfur springs in the area make it smell like rotten eggs. When you get to the top of the gondola ride, get the cooked black egg! It's cooked in the hot grounds there.

Yelp
Lovely hotel up in the mountains. Scenic onsen. Could not see Fuji from the men's side but apparently you can from the women's side. But still a nice onsen bath.

Yelp
I booked one night in March for this hotel. It's a bit far to get to from Tokyo but I think it was worth it. I booked it for the Mt Fuji view but it was cloudy so couldn't see it. I booked a Japanese style room which included dinner and breakfast buffet. The buffet had a lot of selection and you can try seasonal local dishes which was great. I've never had natto or sakura soba so I got to try these dishes. The onsen was really nice and well maintained. They have Dyson hair dryers in the women's locker room, what world is this? If you want private time, go when it first opens in the morning. I managed to be the only one in the outdoor onsen for at least 20 min. The staff don't speak much English but they do try to help you. I'll have to come back to see that Mt Fuji view!

Yelp
We absolutely loved our stay at HGP Hakone! The onsen has a beautiful view with incredible amenities (sauna, Dyson blowdryer, skincare products, etc.). The dinner buffet had a great assortment including hot pots, sushi, and udon; we could have eaten there for days. Highly recommend booking a Japanese style room because they are more likely to have a view of Mt. Fuji. Great value for the price!! Looking forward to coming here again.

Yelp
This is one of the places that you can be in an onsen with the view of Mt. Fuji, except don't come on cloudy foggy days. The entrance to just the onsen is 1600¥ per person and includes a face and body towel. The facility is in the B1 level. There is abundant hygienic products to test and use there. Lockers are included free to put your clothes in. The onsen has an outdoor and indoor component for both male and female. They serve sake for free during onsen from 15:00-19:00 for girls side, not sure about the men's side. The temperature is hot, would say upper limits, I can only handle being half way to 1/3 into the water. Even the showers were hot despite me trying to turn it down. Highly recommended, they make their own onsen q10 + EGF product for face, amazing because as you rub it turns into water on your face/body. Only sold in this place. Love this product, will come back again :)

Yelp
When you search hot spring hotels in Hakone with views of Mt.Fuji, this hotel is always on the top of the list. We decided to stay at this hotel for a night as a mini-getaway from Tokyo. This hotel is conveniently located right off one of the stops on the Hakone Ropeway, a 3 min walk from the station. There are signs when you get off the Ropeway directing you where to go. There is also a bus stop that isn't too far away from the hotel. When you first walk in, you are greeted by welcome drinks already poured out for you when you arrive. The check-in process was easy, and the staff would give you a rundown of the rules and a guide of the hotel. Dinner and breakfast buffet is included with your stay. At check-in you choose when you want to get dinner. You do not need to reserve a time for breakfast. The rooms were clean and spacious. Our room had two queen sized beds and a Japanese style table on top of tatami mats . When we went down for dinner, staff came into our room and moved the table aside, and helped us set up an additional two beds on the tatami mats. The food at dinner and breakfast wasn't that good but they did have a huge selection of food. Since food wasn't the main reason why I choose this place, it didn't really matter to me that the food was bad. You are provided with slippers, towels, and a yukata in your room that you bring down with you to the hot springs. The hot springs is opened until 12:00 am for hotel guests. The changing area was spacious with cubbies and lockers for you to store your belongings. They also provided a lot of skincare products for guests to use after the onsen. There are two pools, one inside and one outside in the open. The indoor onsen is a lot bigger than the outdoor one. They also have a sauna room. I enjoyed the outdoor one a lot more. Contrary to what I thought, there is still lots of people late at night and early in the morning. The view of Mt.Fuji inside the onsen was amazing during the daytime. They have 2 foot massage machines inside in the changing room as well as two massage machines in the area where people sit after their onsen. It was a great touch especially for someone like me who has been on the go for a while and really needed my muscles to be relaxed. They also have a garden with magnificent views of Mt.Fuji as well. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you are on a budget and want to experience a traditional onsen experience with a view of Mt.Fuji.
