"Perched next to San Francisco Bay, Hotel Griffon makes an ideal base for business travelers who work nearby and visitors who want a waterfront location. Free town car service to the Financial District is available every weekday morning, while a fifth-floor boardroom provides a short commute for conference-goers. Leisure travelers can arrange Alcatraz tickets, tours, and sought-after reservations through the concierge. The eco-friendly hotel is green down to the smallest details, from recycling unused hygiene products as part of the California Green Lodging Association and Clean the World to recycled notepads. All of the rooms were remodeledin 2012 and get turned down every evening with chocolates. Top-floor suites also have a wet bar so guests can raise a glass to their view of the city or bay and toast their time in San Francisco."

We were in town for a concert at Oracle Park, which made the location of Hotel Griffon ideal. The view from the room, as we were bayside, was amazing, with views of the Bay, Bay Bridge, and Ferry Building. The room was large, bed was comfortable, and the shower was wonderful. Our time in this hotel was best spent in the room. ||||Outside of the room from elevator to the floor we were on, there was an awful smell. A cross between sewer, burned food, old carpet, and the Pinesol that was used to cover it up. In the room there was an overwhelming bleach smell, which was quickly aired out by opening the windows and turning on the fan. ||||A $25 amenities fee is charged on arrival, but beyond a gym that I never used and tea, there are not amenities to speak of. There is not on site parking, and while there is parking close, it’s not easy to get to and it’s upwards of $70 a night, without in/out privileges. The coffee was out when I went to get some and the tea was picked over. Coffee mate was the only available additive, so off to the Ferry Building we went. We tried calling the desk from our room multiple times, to no avail, only to go downstairs and find the desk clerk playing on his cell phone. ||||So, if you are interested in a view and location, and money is no object, Hotel Griffon is lovely. However, if view alone doesn’t justify a large price tag, perhaps keep scrolling for additional options.

My husband and I stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. Our purpose of traveling was to enjoy the San Francisco LGBT parade, and the next day we had a Shakira concert. It's truly a hotel with the three B's: Good, Beautiful, and Cheap. It has an excellent location, the rooms are very comfortable, the service is excellent, and they offer coffee and snacks in the morning. I would give it an 8/10. But why? We would like the televisions to have Smart TVs or Google Chrome. We would also have liked some thoughtful touches for our anniversary (this is optional). But in short: we had an incredible time and highly recommend it. 💫 Thank you very much. Enjoy your trip. 🧳

Great location! All the staff were friendly. Clean room and nice bath products. Definitely a European vibe. Perry’s restaurant is a great amenity. Plenty of parking garages in area; I used SpotHero. The coffee and pastries in the morning were nice. The luggage storage was also a big plus before check in; at checkout the receptionist offered luggage storage again! I’d stay here again. Highly recommend Hotel Griffon for single travelers or couples. Thanks!

The receptionist Juan was amazing - we had an issue with our room keys not working, but he went the extra mile and ended up upgrading us to a nicer room. Beds are super comfy, no sore back in the morning! Rooms are a bit small but very clean, no complaints

My husband and I always book Hotel Griffon whenever we are in San Francisco. We have been patrons of this Hotel for over 3 years. The location is perfectly situated across the street from the Ferry Building, amazing restaurants and the SF Giants stadium aka AT&T Park. However, the main reason we go to Hotel Griffon is the friendly people. Thank you, Gladys for making my birthday so special, including the surprise champagne bottle and the sweet birthday note in our room to start off the celebration of my birthday. Thank you. Our suite we book was clean, nicely decorated and the view of the bay bridge was stunning. I also loved the texts I receive at the beginning and during our stay to make sure my husband and I needed anything. ||I highly recommend Hotel Griffon. Thank you so much everyone from the Hotel. We are so grateful. We will see you again next month!

Our stay was absolutely amazing. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. I will highly recommend this place because ALL of the staff was pleasant and helpful, but want to give a sincere thank you to Gladys for above and beyond service and hospitality. Your positivity turned our cruddy morning right around!

Amazing location, almost right across the street from the Ferry Building, which has everything and more. Wonderful rooms, clean, comfortable. Great staff. We had a suite, because we had 2 children. Very roomy. We will be back!

Great boutique hotel located near the waterfront. The staff is very attentive and care about our stay. I was not happy with the the original room I booked and they moved me to a better room immediately at no additional charge.. Not many hotels will do that.

Yelp
We came for a medical appointment on a Tuesday night. We chose this hotel because its only a block away from our clinic. The rooms are very tiny, but we don't need much. It's just myself and my wife, so it was manageable. The elevators are very tiny too. Fits 2 people with luggage comfortably, a third could squeeze in but will be an awkward journey if you don't know the third person. At five A.M., the people upstairs decided to have a rager moving around the room, so that kept me up for a while. a major con is. It doesn't have parking. You have to park across the street in the parking garage. It was $76 for the night. They don't have valet and they don't validate. It is a bit cheaper during the weekend. The room was advertised at $139 plus fees and taxes It came out to 160, add the $76 comes to $236. The hotel is in a prime location to a lot of restaurants, and of course, the Piers and the Baybridge. I will definitely stay here again. Since it's very close proximity to my clinic.

Yelp
This is a deceptively tiny hotel, but very European in flavor. We went here for our first Anniversary and I couldn't have had a better time. Very romantic boutique hotel The location is great within walking distance of the Ferry Building. We went to Dinner at the Waterbar and discovered it was literally across the street from the hotel. If you are driving a good tip is to reserve a parking spot using spot hero. The Restaurant Perry's which we didn't get to try, looked great and was jumping when we got back from the Waterbar. They also had coffee and sweet rolls for breakfast. If you are looking for more variation the Ferry Building is a quick walk and has some great places to eat.

Waking up the sound of the bay in a beautiful room is the way to go. Great location to explore the city. Big vibes y'all!!

Yelp
If it wasn't for a canceled flight and needing to add a fourth night (which also meant changing to a different room), this would not be a great review. The bad: we were not impressed when we checked into our first room. It was small and had an awkward layout with the sink located at the foot of the bed instead of in the bathroom. Our room had no view, and its small tv was located high up on the wall over the sink. The pillows were too hard (I actually had a sore neck after trying to sleep with them). The sheets were stained. It was located near the elevator so it was noisy. The good: after we checked into our new room, we were impressed that it was noticeably bigger and generally more pleasant. While the sink was still annoyingly located outside of the bathroom, the pillows were softer and the tv was bigger. It was clean and, because it was located down the hall away from the elevator, it was quieter. We very much liked the location - close to the Ferry Building. It was easy to walk to from the BART and a MUNI stop was nearby. We enjoyed the free pastries and coffee each morning. It was nice that they had water dispensing stations available. We liked that it was adjacent to Perry's - a good restaurant/bar which we frequented a couple times during our stay. The front desk staff were kind. And we liked free access to work out at the nearby YMCA - a really nice facility!

Yelp
The Hotel Griffon I am from the Bay Area, currently living in Austin Texas, I tend to travel, visit SF every 3 months. Hotel Griffon has become my hotel of choice, my home away from home. Located steps away from the Ferry Building/ Embarcadero/Bay Bridge. I make a point of reserving one of their suites with multi windows, with an irresistible panoramic view of the Bay, Bay Bridge, Ferry Building. The entire staff at the Hotel Griffon are examples of Superior Hospitality Agents. The epitome of Hospitality - always going above, beyond meeting and exceeding expectations. In particular Lady Ann (Front Office Manager) Regina, Gladis..... My recent visit (August 2024) upon arrival, greeted like family, offered early check-in, finding a lovely welcome note and bottle of wine in the room. Thank You - Hotel Griffon - My Little Slice of Heaven !!!!

Yelp
Hotel Griffon is straddling 3 to 4 stars. Service, location, view (if you get a bay view), can't be beat. It's a cute but small boutique hotel in an old building right off the Embarcadero. How small are the rooms? Think old school European hotels. What it gives up on size, it makes up for in terms of location and the view if you get a Bay View room (worth it). Our room looked right at the bay bridge and gave way to beautiful morning sunrises. The sink is located outside of the bathroom. Speaking of bathroom, the vent fan was an odd combo of also heating up the bathroom like a food warming lamp in a Restaurant's pass. Other oi species quality that may or may not add to the charm...the floor had a definite slant to one side, tested by our wheeled luggage. LoL Water stations on every other floor, alternating the same spot on each floor with an ice machine. Complimentary sweet and savory pastries in the morning with a pretty decent brew of drip coffee. The staff are all very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
A suite is a must! High ceilings are awesome, the bed was super comfortable, shower had great space & good water pressure. The area felt safe and there are delicious restaurants right next door. We ate (and drank) and Perry's. There was STK right across the street that had a fantastic happy hour. We really enjoyed our time in SF & I'd stay again at Hotel Griffon. Thank you Ann & your staff for a lovely stay.

Yelp
Hotel Griffon is a waterfront boutique hotel by the bay bridge in San Francisco. It's a great location on the embarcadero, and from the restaurant outside dining area, you have a spectacular view of the Bay and the bridge. I Came here to spend only one night and booked through a third-party website to get a last-minute deal at this hotel (generally pricey). Therefore, I was assigned a basic room with a queen size bed, which was very comfortable. There is a small bathroom, which did the job. The sink area was outside the bathroom. No worries. There was also a small table and chair. The hotel has one in-house restaurant called Perry's serving American fare. The hotel has free cold purified water stations but not on every floor. It's a bummer that they do not supply bottles to take the water to your room. There is complimentary coffee, and pastries every morning from 7-11 am. All the pastries are at room temperature, some of them dry and chewy. There were eight selections. Turkey and cheese, ham and cheese, spinach mushroom and cheese, almond croissants, two types of muffins, lemon danish and berry danish. The berry danish and almond croissant were the best. I will come back. Service was good and there is so much to do around this hotel.

Yelp
Hotel Griffon was a wonderful stay. I originally reserved a room for a suite, however due to a technical error, there were no rooms available. I did book through Expedia, so I would recommend booking through the hotel directly instead of using a third party. The manager, Ann, was super helpful and got me a new room at a reduced price. Her and the staff were so helpful and wonderful. I genuinely appreciated their patience through the whole ordeal. The rooms are petite. The sink and mirror were in front of the bed and the TV mounted on the wall. There is no table nor chair but there is a closet behind the door to put your suitcase there if you need the extra space. If you have a thing with small spaces, I would suggest getting a suite for the extra room. They also have umbrellas in the closets for when it's raining. There's transportation everywhere within a 10 minute walk. You could take the 14 on mission street, there's bart about 6 minutes away walking and there's a train on market. The only thing is you need exact change if you pay in cash or get a clipper card. You can get one at bart or on your wallet app on the iPhone (not too sure about Samsung though). They had a little breakfast snacks and coffee in the morning, there was also a restaurant attached to it. It was a wonderful stay. 12/10 would recommend to my closest pals. Closest pals, I recommend.

Yelp
The Hotel Griffon was recommended by my nephew who is a native San Franciscoan ...he works in the city and suggested this to me over 2 yrs ago...I have many other close family members that live in the area as well... My first stay was by myself..i utilized the Bart (extremely close by) and the YMCA...the room small..but adequate for me alone...there is a very musty almost sewer back up smell in the hallway which bothered me..but..I kept staying here (perhaps 4 different times) This last recent time really troubled me...the room was cold (the heat all the way up)..we were accommodated with a large cumbersome space heater The staff was unfriendly (especially when I asked for a second umbrella) the musty smell persists The lobby was cold...and it's very uninviting We looked at the hotel next door..beautiful fire place in the cozy lobby...classy..bit more expensive but we're going to book there next time Sorry Hotel Griffon I've sent other people here as well

Yelp
It's 4:30pm and my room is not ready. Perhaps they had some housekeeping staff issues. But i was given no explanation.

Yelp
We had a great stay at Hotel Griffon for the Bay to Breakers race. Regina is very friendly and professional. We will definitely consider staying again.

Yelp
We booked a room with a view for our anniversary, they said it was their best room, we arrived and they charged us an extra $26 to check in early. We walked to the room, the halls were filled with garbage bags (the perk of checking in early and being charged??) The room was horrible, we left. Especially for the price, we left and got a 5 star hotel at the same rate they offered for their closet of a room.

Yelp
Great location. I was arriving by ferry which is right across the street. PERRY's restaurant attached to the hotel but not affiliated. No room service but that ended up being ok. Not a long stay hotel or a place if you have a lot of luggage. Tiny elevator as in many older hotels. Room was TINY - Think boutique hotel in NYC. You could turn around but barely. Shower and toilet together but sink is in the main room. Comfortable bed with four (too) large pillows. TV mounted super high. Might have a bit of a neck problem after your stay. But I liked they had full size toiletries in the rooms rather than throw away bad for the environment little disposable ones. They also have filter water you could fill up a reusable bottle, which I appreciated. Overall, I don't know if I would stay there again. But it was a good value for a short 1-night stay and convenience.

Angie A.

Yelp
I like short and sweet reviews. So here it is; the room was really small. My husband and I bumped into each other while going to the bathroom. You need to pay for garage parking, as they don't offer parking on site. They have some pastries in the morning, and they charge a fee upon check-in of 20 dollars. That is, of course, separate and non-refundable. The bed was okay. Not the best sleep.

Bonnie S.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Griffon. We were upgraded to a suite and it had a wonderful view of the bay bridge and waterfront. Bed was very comfortable, had two TVs (direct tv) and a nice shower. In the morning was coffee and danish. We also recommend the restaurant Perry's, it was really good.

Yelp
$350 for 2 nights for the SF Marathon booked via AirBnB. *************************************** ROOM *************************************** The room's floor is slanted hahahah. I put a water bottle on the floor and the head of the bed and it rolled down to the foot of the bed. So definitely slanted. It was a tight space! One of the night stands was a "desk" with an unnecessary desk chair in a very tight space. I did like the window lounge/day bed. But who knows when that was cleaned last...Some threads were frayed and pulled out of the cushion. The window is more for light, not for the view. It's has a texture and somewhat opaque so you can't see clearly what's outside. The sink is not in the bathroom but in the room. There is also no fridge, but there is a coffee maker with coffee and tea, ice bin, and cups. There is also a water filter in the lobby, that looks pretty new. One random thing is that the hair dryer was pretty good! I always find hotel hair dryers to be a little wimpy, but this dryer was basic and great! It blew very strongly, it could have been hotter. But still great! *************************************** SERVICE *************************************** Service was decent. We got early check in, which was nice! FYI THERE IS NO PARKING HERE. Unfortunately, they did not honor their Yelp Check In Deal, which offers a later check out time. Check out was at 11 AM and the latest they could push it was 12 PM. Would I be back? Probably because during peak seasons and events like the SF marathon, this is the most affordable options that still has space.

Yelp
TL;DR: complimentary coffee every morning, small but cozy rooms, incredible staff, wonderful location, good attached restaurant. gap under door lets sounds in, but can be easily worked around. this is a cozy and friendly hotel tucked off the main strip of the Embarcadero. super close to the ferry building, and walking distance to the BART. we were upgraded to the city king room, and it was tight but spacious enough for 2 people to get around. the sink is outside of the bathroom, which is a tad inconvenient, but you get used to it pretty quickly. there is a small gap underneath the door that can let some sound in, but placing one of the available towels or the housecoat on the bottom of the door helps create a sense of privacy.

Yelp
I must admit, after reading a few reviews from a few travel sites, as well as Google and Yelp, I was very skeptical about staying here. But afterward, I gotta say, I loved it!! The bed was comfortable, and it had 4 giant pillows. All the amenities were good. The room was a bit small, but it was expected from a privately-owned hotel that's been around as long as this one. This was not a deal breaker. The hotel only has one elevator, which can take time to catch if you're coming/going with a lot of luggage, but if not, the stairs are right around the corner. And the hotel has its own restaurant, and the food was good, staff was so nice and attentive. There was a loud fire(?) alarm that was going off when we first checked in, but it didn't come back during our stay, at least not while we were in the building. Overall, it was a very enjoyable, comfortable stay. Thank you to the entire Hotel Griffon staff.

Yelp
One of the best things about Hotel Griffon is the location. It's close enough to many restaurants and attractions, but more importantly, it doesn't seem to have quite the homeless and crime issues that Union Square unfortunately does. There's always an Uber/Lyft a minute away if you need to go further. Nice front desk. No real extras except coffee in the morning. The downstairs restaurant Perry's is pretty solid for lunch and/or dinner. I booked the executive suite based upon the many reviews stating that the rooms are small. Also, we were in town for a basic eye procedure and I wanted my husband to be able to rest without me disturbing him. Our balcony was huge but unfortunately just had a view of the surrounding hotel building. The suite itself was not a true suite as the living room did not have a door. Strangely, there was the tiniest tv I've ever seen but a huge one in the sleeping area. Weird. I'd probably stay here again if I got a suite with a view. Pretty clean room and comfy bed. Big tub which was much appreciated after doing a lot of walking.

Yelp
This place has horrible service. Day after thanksgiving of 2023 I was in Volvos in an accident which I was hospitalized the problem was the day after thanksgiving and Saturday I already booked those two days via hopper at this hotel. I called to let them know my situation and I wasn't looking for a refund maybe just credit for future stay the manager told me since I was already had a discounted room since I went through hopper there's was nothing I could do. The manager named Ann literally stated from her own words I just lost out of the $400 I already paid. So this is how you treat consumers that choose to use your business?? Me nor anyone that works for me. Family and I suggest that if you need a hotel stay PLEASE CHOOSE ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY OR MAKE SURE NOTHING HAPPENS TO YOU THAT WILL ALTER YOUR VISIT CAUSE THEY WILL KEEP YOUR MONEY IF I COULD GIVE A NEGATIVE STAR REVIEW I WOULD
google avatar

Trey Z.

Yelp
Came here for a business trip. Paid $315 a night for a terrible corner room that has no view and tiny dark room. Also the place has no amenity or breakfast. This hotel feels like a scam compared to the Hyatt Regency next door.

Ritika K.

Yelp
Front Desk is absolutely RUDE and not helpful. I was not able to find the additional charge of $20 per day on my confirmation and they just told me to talk to their partners I booked through. I have never had such a BAD experience at a place like this. Please be BEWARE of their hidden fees and their absolute rude behavior by the lady at the front desk and the guy. They ended up asking me to leave their front desk and DISCONNECTED my key back to the room ( only because I couldn't see the additional charges on my booking confirmation???) If you really want people to just book through your own website then you should not have third party partners. Basic help should be given. NEVER coming here again and I suggest everyone to check their hidden fees they are charging during checkout. I would also ask the owners to talk the 2 people at the front desk about their behavior. I am pretty sure no one who knows me will be staying at this place again!!!

Yelp
We were very much looking forward to our stay at the hotel Griffin in SF. Unfortunately, we were met with unprofessionalism and unkindness from some of the hotel staff members at the front desk during our check-in. Though we made our reservation a couple weeks before our stay, there was (apparently) a miscommunication between the hotel staff that left us waiting for a room promised to us. We were told the room would be ready at 3:00 p.m. but waited in the lobby for an additional hour and were told they were "waiting for cleaning staff to finish the room and working on wifi updates". Ultimately we ended up settling for another room to avoid waiting longer than we already did. We were extremely disappointed and offput by the staff member who was unkind during the process of figuring out our room reservation, making it feel like it was our fault that there was a miscommunication on the hotel's end. Rather than apologizing, we were essentially told that we were lucky to get what we were getting. There were no consolidations made. During the rest of our stay, all but one staff member did not say anything welcoming to us. I understand that mistakes happen, but the unapologetic and unfriendly nature of the hotel staff was disappointing. Clearly the hotel greatly lacks in hospitality, but the room was clean, and the location was nice in terms of proximity to restaurants and other things to do. There were loud banging sounds that could be heard intermittently in the mornings as well (possibly construction?)and were definitely unpleasant to wake up to. We will not recommend nor return to this establishment.

Yelp
"NO BUENO" Smaller hotel room I aver seen in my life Only the bed fits in the room and I was told that my mini room was a mini fridge but it wasn't there ‍ Ooohh and don't forget the View when I did check in I have to pay extra if I even want to see outside, This place is not worth it , you should get an Airbnb I think that would b the best for anyone I would do that next time I go back to San Francisco I'm from LA baby Oh and let me tell y'all there's NO PARKING LOT U have to go to another street and parked there and some Random building and ... You have to pay extra $70 dlrs per day ‍ can u imagine that Another thing there's no space for 3 person in the elevator This hotel should be a bar just to kick it They didn't told me nothing about the parking and the view and all that they want the money There's nothing more to add , have fun and enjoy the beautiful city

Vanessa L.

Yelp
This hotel is nice and safe. Clean, next to an amazing sushi restaurant. I highly recommend if looking for a place to stay in SF. The bar is amazing the bartender is a great guy with a good pour had me right after one drink! They do hold a security deposit of $200 seem much higher than other hotels I've stay at. The room is very small. Parking is around the corner so drop your stuff of before hand. If you don't plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel room other than to sleep and shower perfect place.

Amy D.

Yelp
Hands down the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in! Most hospital rooms are nicer and roomier! There was barely room to walk around the bed, no dresser, no chair, no desk, nowhere to put a suitcase! Stark white walks and a window facing a brick wall. Stay away!!

Yelp
BEWARE of this HORRIBLE HOTEL!!! I stayed there 10 years ago and suddenly (yesterday and today) started getting texts from their "virtual assistant IVY" telling me I was a current guest there? Called the hotel and spoke to "Brandon" who put me on hold for 12 min to only come back to say he was putting me on hold again because someone walking up to the front desk supersedes anyone needing help on the phone?? He said he was the ONLY employee there and that the manager (Anne Mock?) wasn't on duty and never even offered to take a message. Why do they think I'm a current guest??? Why can't they help me after being on hold for so long already?? What a SHODDY, HORRIBLE hotel!!!! Would NOT recommend this place. They don't care about you, can't adequately staff the place and then will harass you with their virtual assistant and take NO accountability for it. HORRIBLE!
google avatar

Yelp
This hotel is a great place to stay right near the embarcadero and near a travel hub for the whole city outside of the ferry building. I was shown an awesome time thanks to Sebastian! He made sure we got a room with a view of the bay and truly made the trip so much better! Comfy beds and a few other lil touches like a robe for the shower that make this a really classy place to stay.

Yelp
Don't ever stay here! I booked 3 nights for $420.86 to stay at this filthy hotel. I booked this place for the location near the bay and to be away from downtown. After the first night of bad sleep I realized the thermostat did not have a proper climate control on it. The room was either blasting hot air or super cold air, there was no in between. I also found a bag with a white powdery substance in it. Looks like drugs on the floor next to the bed night stand. I mentioned the temperature issues to the front desk on the second day at the hotel. The hotel staff said we could upgrade the room for an additional $60 per night. This is outrageous! I called the manager and they will not offer me a refund because they said there is no record of me talking to anyone. These are bad business practices. And I will never stay here again.
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
They're doing construction, it's starts at 5:30 am. So if you want to sleep past then not a great spot. Rooms are small, walls are thin, there are gaps under the door because they've replaced the floor that is lower than the room doors.
google avatar

Amparo Z.

Yelp
I don't have enough nice things to say about this Hotel! It's location, restaurant & staff is just delightful! The Manager Ann was SO KIND and helpful! We booked with Hotels Tonight, next time I will be sure to book direct! We have stayed in Union Square before but nothing beats staying by the bridge, baseball stadium and The piers! Rooms are CLEAN and the bed was comfortable. 5 stars!

Yelp
We loved our stay here. Clean, beautiful views, and very awesome staff, too! Great location, restaurant/bar downstairs is great too!

Lisa A.

Yelp
Be aware there is no parking offered. The garage across the street was full so they told me to download an app on my phone to find an open spot at another garage. I was having trouble with the app so I drove to a couple other garages about .5 mile away and they were also full. I was in a hurry and couldn't continue the fire drill of trying to park my car so I ended up pivoting and getting a room at the Hyatt right around the corner. It was only about $100 more and 100% worth the ease of not having to download a freaking app to hunt for a place to park.

Yelp
SAN FRANCISCO'S BEST KEPT SECRET!! Boutique Hotel with "Character" and Location!! This review is coming from someone who lived in "The City" as we locals call it, for 8 years! Not some pilgrim from Arkansas who expects the rooms to be "Hampton Inn," overloaded with granite, who visits The City once every 10 years. Have since moved, but have stayed at the Griffon at least 10-12 times over the years. Recommend to everybody, and all friends and family members when they travel from out-of-state!! Location is incredible!! On the waterfront with view of the Bay Bridge and 4 blocks from Ferry Building and Saturday's Farmers Market!! Also, top restaurant in the city ( Boulevard) on same block! A short walk down waterfront to Iconic Sports Bar ( Hi-Dive ) and Historic Red's Java House!! Then only 10 minute walk to Oracle Park, home of the Giants!! Great benefit is Perry's Restaurant, "In House" off the lobby with outdoor patio and "Postcard Picture" view of Water Front Bay. Ocean is literally across the street....smell the salt water in the air from your table!! SF Local "Insider Tip"....parking is problematic all over The City. When staying at the Griffon, go to end of Stuart st where it dead ends, or right on Howard to find street parking. Double check meters, but most enforcement ends at 10pm. So you can park overnight, but you have to get up in the am when enforcement starts again, and move car, or feed the meter. Except on sat night, cause no enforcement on Sundays! So you can sleep in! Leave absolutely nothing in your car, and I mean nothing. Especially electronic devices. All the Parking Garages will tell you this too. This as of sept 2023. Don't take my word for it!! Do your own due diligence....read the meters!! But have discovered this on my last 2 stays in 2023, and parked overnight, free.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Stayed in the deluxe queen. Great location, especially when I'm in and out for work. It's a great place to stay if you just need a room to sleep. There really isn't a window, if so, just looks into the fire escape. I believe you can upgrade to rooms with a view if staying longer.

Yelp
I haven't been in prison confinement but expect it to be the same as our room at the griffin. Oh my where to start the room was so small we had to wait turns to get at our suitcases. Bathroom was split / toilet and bathtub then mirror and sink in bedroom No luxury no convenience impossible for two people and no one told us that it's single window opened on an air shaft Even lights are in wrong places. Night tables inadequate not enough outlets Only two towels that were thin and a bed So high I had to take a run to be able to jump onto it. Bathroom door can only close when youre inside the room and john is facing bedroom head on which is unattractive The single most uncomfortable room I've had in 50 years of travel Now let's talk about lackluster help at front desk or that there is no way to get breakfast without walking blocks away Ungracious awful and it looks like a sketch for Saturday night live about grotesque hotel Avoid avoid avoid

Yelp
This is a beautiful, boutique hotel with a very charming interior. Rooms were small but well-appointed with all of the necessities. The brick accent wall behind the bed and the window seating added cute elements to a small space. Located in the embarcadero neighborhood/financial district in SF, the hotel is close to the San Francisco Bay and outside the hotel, the bay bridge views are gorgeous. Perry's restaurant is adjacent to the hotel and several other dining venues are nearby. Check-in was easy. The employee who helped me was very engaging and welcoming, easily making small talk as he completed the necessary paperwork. He also clued me into the fact that there was no on site gym and he provided me with a complimentary pass to the YMCA down the street for the following morning. Checking out at 4am was challenging. Given the small size of the hotel, I imagine that the nights are pretty quiet. The front desk staff was nowhere to be found when I needed them. I rang the bell at the desk...silence. I peeked into the adjacent room...lights were off. So, I resorted to calling the hotel - as I was standing at the front desk - only to hear commotion and finally see the employee emerge from a deep sleep to rush to get the phone. I let him know that I had called as I was trying to check out. This experience was not what I would have expected for a hotel of this caliber. But, the good things outweighed the check out snafu. The fresh fruit in the lobby each morning was much appreciated and I loved the coziness of the place. This was a nice hotel stay.

Yelp
Pros: Great location, charming lobby, friendly staff, fun pub/restaurant attached. Cons: Perhaps some of the rooms were spectacular -- peeking my head in while housekeeping had the doors to other rooms propped open reveals that some are -- but the one I was stuck with was perhaps the worst hotel room I've ever had in the United States. Besides being tiny, to the point where one has to turn sideways to approach the bed, it has a sealed "window" that opens up onto an airshaft. I could perhaps deal with one attribute or the other, but for almost $300 per night the combination was intolerable. Take a look at the attached photo, and you can see that only two rooms per floor, x05 and x15, are of the tiny variety (the even-numbered rooms all have windows, from what I could tell, some with spectacular views of the bridge). And while I see that their revenue stream would be loath to give up those $300/night incomes, they are going to tick off some guests -- this one included. My suggestion would be to either remodel the adjacent rooms and turn them into larger ones, or simply turn these rooms into storage areas. Worst case, rent them for 1/2 the rates of the other rooms. But charging full rack rate is simply a crime. While the rest of the hotel might be great, I would never go back nor can I recommend it until this is addressed.

Yelp
The staff at Hotel Griffon were beyond amazing! They upgraded us to the bay view suite 506-and a nice king room for me (room 409- city side) for my son's birthday weekend. It's an older hotel and they had a little bit of problems with the electrical and the AC in the suite and fixed it right away. Plus, left a bottle of wine for the inconvenience. They could've been nicer about everything and gave us a late check out. We also stored our bags while we went out sightseeing - they were in a safe location. The sushi place next-door is phenomenal and that was worth everything (dinner). Perry's is very good for a nice drink and bar atmosphere in the hotel. We parked on the street Saturday to Sunday (you can download the meter app and Sundays are free). They recommend parking in the parking lot and I did that on Friday night, but it is pricey. It does have a guard. I felt that the area was very quiet and safe compared to a lot of what else is happening in San Francisco. Even though this is an old hotel it is very very clean. The beds were comfortable. I'm super happy with our stay. We will be back.

Yelp
The room was really small and mine unfortunately had hair on the bed when I arrived. Little to no natural lighting. 3 stars for the excellent location.

Yelp
No muss no fuss. Stayed here during covid times and it was very bare bones, seemed that there was construction going on at the restaurant next door. Room was clean, soft bed. The sink was outside of the bathroom, which was a little weird, but not bad necessarily. I thought the security deposit was a bit steep ($200). This place is a solid spot and even better given the discount on hotelstonight!

Yelp
Pros - Great location. It's super close to the Ferry Building and the neighborhood seemed safe at night. Easy check-in / check-out process and friendly staff. Reasonable rates given the city and location. Cons - The rooms were quite small and cramped, although I'm sure comparable to other hotel rooms in San Francisco. Our AC made weird noises every time it turned on. Very thin walls - we could hear everything happening in the hallways, the cleaning staff, loud guests, etc. Also, we had requested a later check-out time of noon, instead of 11am, which the front desk staff noted, but the cleaning staff stikk entered our room at 11. Overall, decently clean, reasonably priced and a good location. Fair for what it is, but I wasn't wowed with the service or little extras that other hotels offer.

Yelp
Hotel far exceed my expectations. Rooms were very clean and updated, employees were all very polite and welcoming and the location was perfect for Pier 39, Alcatraz, The Wharf, Ferry Building, and Oracle Park. We were given a room on the top floor with a view of the Bay. It was a perfect stay!

Yelp
Great location. Bed was super comfy. Housekeeping was great. Only issue is the walls are extremely thin. I can hear my neighbors conversation word for word and they are talking quietly.

Yelp
The room was sufficient and the hotel was adorable, but the only reason I reserved the room was bc the view. Sadly, we didn't get much of a view at all and it was a bummer. I will admit - I made the reservation last minute too... so this could be my fault. Though .., the room we had faced a weird window that was looking at air conditioning or building stuff lol. Not even sure how it would even be a window... there was no sunlight at all Otherwise. Cute. Just be smart about what you book.

Yelp
Great service. Walking distance to eat. Front desk is very welcoming. The ferry is just across from the hotel.
