Hotel Hacienda Merida

"This eight-room hotel in an 1840 hacienda may be just a few blocks from Mérida’s central plaza, but in the evening, when bats dart through the courtyard’s colonnaded portal and stars twinkle above the palm trees, you’ll feel like you’re at a country estate. The sense of seclusion is reinforced by unobtrusive staff, towering ceilings, and two lovely courtyards. Yucatán’s capital city has several other excellent hotels set in nineteenth-century homes but none with such contemporary style: dark-wood furniture is set on red-stained polished-cement floors, and abstract paintings adorn the foot-thick walls, painted in a traditional combination of rust and creamy yellow. Though the hotel’s four larger rooms are dubbed "executive," don’t expect officelike details (except for free Wi-Fi). The space that might have gone to a desk is turned over to a huge bathroom and a vast shower, all the better to enjoy local treats like natural honey shampoo and sisal bath scrubs. Perhaps the most soothing of all is the massage therapist, available every evening."

Hotel Hacienda Merida, Merida, Mexico - Explore & Book

"French owner Alexandre Degoute runs his first hotel with fantastic customer service, very fair prices - and great success: this charming 1840s hacienda is often fully booked, so you’ll need to get in there early. Just a few blocks from Mérida's central plaza, it offers a tranquil respite in the energetic ‘white city’, which is crammed with vibrancy and culture but continuously buzzing with people and traffic. As you step off the busy road into the hotel’s reception, you’re immediately struck by the calm - the interior is cool and dark, with high ceilings and whirring fans. With only 20 rooms, there’s an intimate and welcoming vibe; staff are always smiling, always helpful. Out back, the courtyard and pool areas are sublime, with tall palm trees, billowing cotton curtains and Doric columns. And at dusk, lanterns and candles are sprinkled around, lending a romantic ambiance for couples to sip zesty margaritas. Most rooms are housed in a separate wing well away from the road, so they're super quiet; 5 of them lie in a discreet 'VIP block' with its own pool, bar and terraces, tucked away next to the main hotel. All are unexpectedly contemporary, with four-poster beds and a muted grey palette, yet they nonetheless preserve distinctive colonial features, including heavy wooden doors topped by hatch windows. Highs This is a great location - it's 2 blocks from the centre and a short walk from Plaza Mayor, so it’s easy to pop back for a siesta or a cool drinkStaff can arrange car hire and guides to help you explore Chichen Itza or Mérida’s churches, plazas and pretty streets The elegant pool areas, with their cool, chlorine-free water, are a perfect refresher after a day’s sightseeing in the city, which can get very hotThe rates are very reasonable, as are the prices for breakfast, cocktails and car hireThe squeaky clean rooms have comfy beds Lows The hotel doesn't serve lunch or dinner, but you're right in the centre of town, so there's a huge array of restaurants to suit all tastes within a couple of minutes' walk. Staff can order in food from nearby eateries if requiredIn the rainy season, Mérida’s streets are like mini rivers There's little acoustic insulation between rooms, and some noise can be heard e.g. neighbours talking or walking up the stairs" - Harriet Whiting

Great location and a nice enough hotel. It's clean and the staff are helpful. Water is only warm at times not hot and the bed is very hard. It's located nest to a hostel that can be quite loud until 2300. The breakfast is pretty good and the grounds are nice. Adding double glazing for noise, fixing the hot water and upgrading the bed would make this place a gem.

Well located for downtown, close to restaurants. It is between a Cuban bar and hostel, so there could be a bit of noise at night, but it didn't disturb us. The room was comfy, large and clean, with a good shower, although lacked drawer space for unpacking smaller items. There are attractive outside areas, but the few loungers tended to get taken early in the afternoon although chairs were usually available. Our room didn't have private outside space, so choose one with this if important to you. |Staff were friendly, although possibly over-run at breakfast if all rooms were there at the same time impacting service times. Breakfast itself was included on our rate and although a little limited in range, it was generous and fresh.|I'd give 3.5/5 if I could.

This hotel is well situated close to St Lucia Square where there are a number of good restaurants.|The staff were friendly and helpful.|We stayed in an executive room, which was spacious and well fitted. The bed was comfortable although a little higher than normal. The AC worked well. The bathroom was large and had all amenities. |Despite its city location the hotel is quiet and peaceful. There are several small swimming pools with sun-beds and comfortable shaded sitting areas - ideal to relax after a day sightseeing. There is a nice bar area.|Recommended.

The welcome was excellent. The guys on the front desk make a special effort to remember names. The hotel is situated on a not particularly attractive busy road. But once you walk through the entrance and bar area it opens out onto beautiful historic open courtyards with small swimming pools.||The rooms are clean and nicely attired with interesting features. Our room had French doors to the first pool. It was very pleasant indeed.||They do not serve food apart from breakfast but Merida has many good restaurants, numerous within walking distance from the hotel. The breakfasts were, for us, limited to either a continental or one dish and one drink off the menu. This was normally done well, one morning it was full in our area so we went to the adjacent courtyard, which was slowly and curtly served. The bar man was lovely, as were all the other members of their team. ||We had a wonderful stay in Merida, the hotel and hotel team were lovely.

We had an excellent stay here. It is like a haven in Merida. Rooms are a great size with lots of original features - beautiful tiles, lighting and great pools. ||Staff were extremely friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again if I visited Mérida again.

Lovely hotel which wasvery well located for the town and restaurants.|The staff were incredibly friendlhy and very helpful in sorting out our travel arrangements to get to the next hotel and airport. On one evening there was some noise from the bar next door in our room but the manager texted them and it was turned down straight away. We enjoyed the calm and quiet of the pool too.

Yelp
Another gorgeous boutique hotel in Merida!! I was there a few weeks ago and since they were remodeling their "normal" hotel, I got upgraded to their "VIP" hotel which is right next door. The moment you walk in, there is so much peace and tranquility even though on the main road (calle 62) there is a lot of noise with just the cars driving by. The VIP hotel only has 6 suites however we still had an outdoor swimming pool with lounge chairs. The rooms are quite spacious, clean, and comfortable. The super tall ceilings and decor of the hotel truly transport you back to the hacienda days in Mexico. I did partake on ordering drinks poolside since its so hot/humid out there so thats also an option. I didn't see many other guests there since people are usually out on their tours or walking around getting familiar with the city. The concierge are super helpful providing ideas/suggestions on things to do or would recommend places if you ask. One day it was raining and they brought me an umbrella to me right before I walked out for a tour. I would recommend adding a small fridge to the room just so guests can store water. This is a boutique hotel you definitely want to enjoy their well maintained facilities and take advantage of everything offered.

Yelp
I stayed in this wonderful Hacienda/Hotel for 5 days, and everything was perfect from beginning to the end. My room (Suite) had a beautiful view to the pool, the room was spacious with a lot of natural ligth. The staff is attentive, courteous, and helpful. Special kudos to Mauricio & Alberto who went the extra mile.
