Hotel Helmhaus is a lovely boutique hotel in the perfect location in Old Town Zurich. The rooms are well appointed and breakfast (if purchased) is a perfect start your day healthy buffet. Only downside couldn’t use A/C and street area is too noisy to leave windows open.

Great boutique hotel in a great location in Zurich! We loved the comfortable stylish clean rooms, the delicious breakfasts, the helpful friendly staff, and you can't beat the location - Old Town, the Limmat River, Lake Zurich all within a 5 minute walk. Nearby shops and great restaurants, too. The elevator is small but that is typical in Europe, and we could actually fit all three of our family members on it at once (with no luggage). We loved walking around Old Town, and the river area both during the day and at night. This was an ideal place for us to stay and we would stay again when we're back in Zurich.

This boutique hotel wins the Three C’s: Cosy, Comfortable and Convenient. It’s located in the heart of Zurich’s Old Town, close to the Limmat River and Lake Zurich, and to lots of shops and restaurants. Its staff are customer focused and really aim to look after you. It’s secure, It’s rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable … we had Room 15 on the 1st floor which overlooked the street-front, but the double-glazed windows made it very quiet. The beds were good, and the bathroom was clean and equipped with good quality gels, tissues, nail files, and other accessories. Also on the 1st floor is a lounge/ breakfast room with 24/7 free tea and coffee. The breakfast buffet is excellent, offering a large variety of both hot and cold food, plus fresh pastries and daily newspapers. I particularly praise the very efficient and helpful kitchen staff, who work hard to keep the food and drinks well stocked, and the tables cleaned up. At the front desk, the reception staff were also excellent. They helped us with whatever we needed, from maps and directions, to recommendations and advice, to stamps and postage of our postcards. When we left, they also arranged for the Airport Shuttle to pich us up from the hotel door. As it turned out, we were the only passengers, and the fixed price was cheaper than a taxi (it cost us 37 Swiss Francs). Oh, and the hotel wifi was free, and strong. Overall, the Helmhaus Boutique Hotel was the best hotel I stayed at in Switzerland. It’s small, but perfectly formed, and I would be very happy to book there again.

This boutique hotel is in a wonderful central part of old town Zurich. So close to all the bars, cafes and shops. |The staff were very welcoming, extremely friendly and professional. Our room was spacious and well equipped. If you are looking for accommodation in Zurich, then put this on your list. Should we ever return to Zurich from New Zealand in the future, this hotel would be our go to!

Central location near Grossmünster. Rooms small and spartan. Noisy. . Shoebox size lobby. No concierge. Elevator can accommodate only one person with luggage. Desk clerk preoccupied with another client when we arrived. Immediately spoke English to us even though we are fluent in German. Desk clerk didn’t specify breakfast was included but we had to pay $100 for two for two days of breakfast even though we didn’t know it was included. Desk clerk explained that it was a boutique hotel because all rooms were different. The rooms had little art, simple drapery and are all relatively small so the differences must be minimal. It is a good value if you are looking for a hostel with your own bathroom.

Nice hotel. Ac didn’t work great. The tub/shower was REALLY high to step into. Great location.. taxi could pull right up to front for for luggage sake. The floors are very creeky (so when someone walked the floor above you, you knew it). The elevator is extremely tiny.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Hotel Helmhaus. This is a small privately run hotel with obvious management oversight. Friendly staff are helpful, hotel is in great shape, clean, nicely decorated and maintained. The location is absolutely fantastic for exploring Zurich. The breakfast is excellent. Overall everything spot on. Would definitely stay here again.

Quiet rooms are away from street. My room was simply furnished but very clean. Easy to operate thermostat. Hardwood floors mean you can hear people walking above you but you might want to get coffee elsewhere. Breakfast buffet was typical. Main entry is locked late at night.

Yelp
Excellent location in old town with top notch staff. We were able to check in early after arriving in Zurich in the AM. Easy to get to via the train from the airport to Hauptbahnhof Quai, then 4 stops on Tram 4 to Schifflande. Walk 100 yards and you're there. Deluxe Superior room was fine with Queen bed and crisp, warm duvets. Very good breakfast buffet and again the location and staff make this a great place to stay in Zurich.

Yelp
If you like to be in the middle of the action, like me, while in Zurich...stay here. 4-star hotel with impeccable service, clean & comfy boutique rooms, with proximity to all the main attractions in Zurich...and right across the street from the Lake Zurich Canal. Its located in a plaza which boasts many high-end shops and restos/bars. There are only like 25 rooms so you won't be inundated with bzillions of fugly tourists from Asia (truth). Be like Louis R, travel to Switzerland.

Yelp
A nice boutique hotel conveniently located in the city. The breakfast buffet was good. Our room was clean and neat. The elevator is tiny, tiny, tiny -- fits three people snugly. The staff were helpful and polite.

Yelp
Though the service and included breakfast was delightful, I wasn't sure my room was quite 4 star. After trying two other hotels in the city area, it became clear that Helmhaus had the right attention to details, quality, and finer touches to make me want to return. It's tucked into a little side street in the quaint and charming old Zurich. It is a small hotel but I am preferring it over the bigger hotels. The first instance you walk in, you're greeted warmly by your first name, offered the seasonal wine (mulled red wine), and checked in by a charismatic office manager. The elevator is a tight squeeze but it works quickly to your room. It is spotless and clearly well maintained. Not a scratch anywhere and ever item is of good quality. At first? I thought it was Spartan but I realized it's just a modern Nordic influenced design. It had soft thick towels, plush pillows, silky cotton bedding, and high quality toiletry you don't mind using! It wasn't a large room but it is generous compared to Florence. I was a bit worried of thin walls since it is an old building but it was actually quieter than the 2 newer hotels I stayed in Zurich area. Also the wifi was quite speedy... No issue using my iPhone with it. Lastly, the included breakfast was lovely with a great spread (bacon, eggs, 10 types of bread, 4 pastry types, various cereal, sausages, fruits, tons of jam... ) and a super attentive staff. I wish I booked this place when I came back to downtown Zurich... Next time perhaps!

Yelp
Upon entering, the manager conducted himself as follows: "Hello, and welcome to Hotel Helmhaus, you must be Colleen C. We're so happy you've arrived here to stay with us. Would you like a glass of our specialty made strawberry wine while we complete check-in?" Me: Dumbfounded look. "Yes, yes please!" And it was all gold-plated daisies and rainbows from there folks. My stay at Hotel Helmhaus was nothing short of five stars all the way. The staff was never anything but extremely friendly and helpful. I sipped my chilled strawberry wine ("nothing to do with the inferior grapes!") and was shown to my room. I had booked the smallest of the rooms since I wouldn't be spending much time...so in there lied a bed somewhere between a double and a twin. It was comfy enough, but I was most impressed with the rest of the room. Very well appointed and orderly, with fine touches. The bathroom was very clean. The closet very organized with room for much. A desk within a window looking out over the street of revelers, and allowing in fresh air. A small chair and foot stool. For such a small room, it really packed a punch. A good value. It's a boutique hotel with boutique service, so while the flashier hotels may have more room...I felt very comfortable in my 3-night stay at Hotel Helmhaus. Also included in my rate (I booked through Expedia, but you can go through the hotel!) *An exceptional breakfast spread. Eggs, bacon, sausage, breads, croissants, juices, coffee (made fresh by order), tea, etc. Each morning I started my day by heading to floor 1 for this breakfast, a quick look at the international papers and caffeine. In general, hotels do breakfast much better in Europe...but I even found this to be quite nicer than others. *Free wifi. They'll give you a separate code for each device. The only bother is that every time you shut down or log in again, it has you re-enter the login info. Not a big deal and it is free...so you do with it as you will! The reception was pretty good. Another option I utilized was the laundry service. I'd been traveling for 10 days with a carry on, so this became necessary. They offer an "economy wash" where they'll take a bag of your clothing and wash/dry it all for 20CHF. No folding. However, when I returned my clothes were all neatly folded on my bed. A nice extra touch, and well worth the investment. Hotel Helmaus is a lovely option for your stay in Zurich...I will definitely stay on my next trip. The area is great (very near the Opera, train station, easy walking to many fine districts and dining throughout Zurich). Traveler tips: *Taxi to/from airport is upwards of 60CHF per person. Cabs in Zurich are very pricey. *Shuttle to/from airport is 32 CHF per person. (arrange with hotel, very easy) *You can also take the train to the main station and then the tram to Helmhaus, the most economical route.

Yelp
This hotel is nestled right in the heart of downtown Zurich and streets from old town and "low town". You walk outside and you are emerged into city life. The service is super friendly in this newly renovated hotel and it also has central air which is a luxury in Switzerland! The continental breakfast is delicious in the morning plus it is included in the price of the hotel! It has everything! Free wifi for guests as well along with free nespresso! I would definitely recommend this hotel if yu are staying in Zurich!

Yelp
Great Botique hotel in old town Zurich. Friendly staff offers up a nice warm gluhwine upon arrival and even bumped it up a notch with a bit of schnapps. Cozy facility with lots of style. Location is fantastic and seems to be close to everything. In thee morning we're treated to a top quality breakfast. Hotel has solid wifi. We will return for sure.

Yelp
I became a regular visitor to Helmhaus a while ago. I like its location-you can get to many sights by foot, it's a short walk from Zurich lake as well. I like its spotless rooms-you won't see any dust, even in bright sunlight. I like its fast wi-fi ( and they would gladly give you a charger, if you need one). I like its tasty, delightful breakfast-eggs and tiny sausage, pastries, cappuccino or espresso, juices, fruit. I do like the staff, they will go out of their way to help you in anything you need. They really want you to enjoy your visit! You may ask " Isn't there something I don't like ?". Yes , I don't like, that I cannot come to Zurich and STAY at this friendly hotel MORE often!!!

Yelp
Great hotel. Somewhat frustrated that they did not inform us of the Zurich festival in progress when we arrived. The cynic in me feels like they gamed us, since the festival happens every 3 years, and up to the day before I contacted them for help with finding the hotel and did not receive any information to the effect that ALL taxi and tram access was forbidden in all directions. Getting a taxi at 0400 am to the airport was a similarly tenuous venture involving a trek through urine soaked cobblestone streets to the nearest queue 6 blocks away. The hotel itself is pristine, and the front desk service is fantastic. We have stayed here twice on our way out of Switzerland the night before our flight. Being awake all night and not having access via transport to the hotel because of the festival may be innocent oversights on their part but for the level of professionalism they strive for the ethical thing to do, at a minimum, would have been to at least inform us of the absence of tram and taxi so we did not waste our time.
