When I travel, I like to stay in a local hotel rather than an USA chain. This reinforces the experience of visiting. The Hotel Henri meets that preference. Unfortunately, it also screams deferred maintenance.|There is a dilapidated sign saying 'Hotel'. As we approached it, I said 'I hope that is not ours' as it reminded me of a skid row hotel.|Luckily, the sign was not indicative of the inside, but there were still issues. Missing paint here, a floor board popping up - later taped down, in the breakfast room, inadequate lighting in our room.|But the people were (mostly) amazingly nice. When I commented that we were using our phone lights to see the closet, they sent up a nice floor lamp that completely solved the problem. But what about the people who were there before us?|The door to the bathroom had a step up of a few inches, perfect to break a toe or trip and fall head first into the sink. We rolled up a towel on the floor which, after one mishap, solved that problem.|Note, like most historic hotels, there is no air conditioning.|The breakfast €20 (15 at reservation) and it was very good, but not as good as some. But we were not disappointed.|Like most hotels, the Internet WiFi is slow coming in at about 25 Mbps. Too slow to do a Zoom meeting reliably.|The hotel's location is outside of the tourist area, but it is only 2 blocks south of Zoo train station and a quick zip into the tourist area. It is very easy to navigate with a phone map that includes platform and timing. We got an all day pass. Being outside of the tourist area makes it quieter. With Berlin's safe and speedy mass transit, it makes getting elsewhere easy.|Several nice restaurants for dinner are nearby. Most require reservations - Open Table for many.
