I’ve been hearing about Hotel Herman for a long time so when my boyfriend and I decided to go, I had great expectations and was looking forward to it. Unfortunately it was a big disappointment!
We started with cucumber and oyster emulsion. Basically cucumbers with mayonnaise, for $12.
The other starter was shrimps with fish crackers -- extremely tiny portions, mostly fish crackers and too much sugary sauce.
For the first main, we chose sweetbreads. There was one piece. It was pretty dry and bland. The second main was Lamb. It was good but it didn't save the meal. We gave up and left with empty stomachs after 140 dollars (4 glasses of wine). I love food and know the restaurant world quite well. I can understand that some evenings can be off and disrupt the normal quality, but we came on a weekend night and the restaurant was half full. No excuse to be neglecting quality. If this is the norm, I think this restaurant is overrated, I don't understand the hype.
