Hotel Hinteregger

Great hotel and very good value for the price. The sauna and spa area is really good. The plunge pool is also beautiful but very very cold as you would expect! I stayed on my own and my room was larger than most hotel rooms with a lovely view of the mountain. The food was also very good, especially the fish, perfectly cooked. I would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful welcoming hotel, everyone seemed happy to be there, room was perfect, great value, delicious dinner, great breakfast, quiet, comfortable, modern with a rustic touch. But most of all, it is the friendliness and flexibility (we had to change our booking due to weather for hiking) that I’ll remember. Looking forward to going back next year. Thanks!

This Hotel and the staff working at Hotel Hinteregger were excellent. All spoke English well and could not have been more helpful. |Planning and arrangements by email and phone calls to Tanya were easy with quick responses and clear explanations. |Food in the restaurant was superb with great choice of Austrian food that was delicious with plenty of it at both breakfast and dinner. The chef and catering staff went to great effort to get hot food on the table for all 4 of us at the same time. The quality and range of food was very good and over the 8 days we didn't get the same main course offered. ||The hotel was always clean and tidy and the rooms were spacious with very comfortable beds. ||The pool was warm and never busy. ||The location for walking was really good with helpful support from the hotel and tourist information office opposite where we were able to buy a good local walking map for 6.50€. The town is in the Tauern National park with great wildlife and guided walks available. The wildflowers were amazing. |We would definite recommend this hotel and the town and area for walking.|It took us 3 hours to drive to the town from Munich and was a very easy route. Free parking was readily available at the back of the hotel.

We had a great stay here. The staff was very friendly! The room was big, modern, and clean. Restaurant was also great! Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Matrei is in the centre of a fantastic alpine area, relatively unspoilt and quiet. Skiing on doorstep but also fantastic walks of all types and grades of difficulty within a few miles. The hotel is fantastic. Comfortable rooms, very good restaurant featuring their own produce (farm) heavily across the varied menu. Excellent sauna and eco pool. Wonderful friendly helpful staff throughout. Furthermore excellent value. Many languages spoken.

We are not so familiar with Austria and landed on the Hinteregger in Matrei im Osttirol after reading a recommendation in a magazine. What a great recommendation! This part of Austria is outstanding and was a good place to explore the National Park (Hohe Tauern) from, with loads of good hiking. The hotel is in the village and you can walk just about anywhere. ||||Katharina runs a smart ship and really understands hospitality - everyone is welcoming and the food is outstanding. I was not expecting much from the half board, but I ended up looking forward to dinner every night. There was always a vegetarian choice on the menu and our plates always returned to the kitchen completely clean. The food is regional and tasty, and even if you aren't staying in the hotel, then definitely stop in for dinner. ||||Through a glitch in booking, we ended up in the terrace room which was unbelievably amazing. I will for sure return to the Hinteregger. It was perfect from start to finish.

Placed in a restful area in this small city, 50 meters to the (ski)bus station, and a few stores, offers excellent accommodation conditions, with clean and impressive spacious rooms. It has a spa area, modern and well maintained, a small minus would be the outside pool, unusable when is windy... The food is great, plenty and tasteful, a mix between local traditional dishes and a creative modern cuisine showing a inspired chef. Excellent. Very nice and willing to help stuff.

My wife and I have just returned from a walking holiday in the Hohe Tauern National Park basing ourselves on the Hotel Hinteregger. This is a great hotel centrally located in Matrei. Our accomodation was spacious and comfortable and we were 'fed and watered' to a very high standard. The staff were always smiling and most helpful. ||The hotel ( and indeed the Hohe Tauern National Park ) are highly recoomended.

Every year coming to Osttirol this hotel is our choice. It is family owned and not belonging to one of those chain-hotel and you feel & see the passion the family has put into the hotel. Featuring cozy, natural, spacious rooms, a Sauna and a nature outdoor pool! The enclosed restaurant is also very fine and serving regional food, some even from their own farming. The service staff is super friendly and made our vacation even greater. All in all, a place I could definitely recommend without any doubts! Already looking forward to next year!
