Hospes Palacio de San Esteban, a Member of Design Hotels (Salamanca, Castilla y León) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Housed in a grand old convent built by Franciscan friars in the 16th century, Hospes Palacio de San Esteban is an emblem of Salamanca’s golden age. This luxury hotel sits right on one of the central plazas of the UNESCO-honored old city, its thick stone walls and dramatically curving archways framing cavernous, beautifully restored interiors that feel especially romantic by the glow of candlelight. Guest rooms have exposed wood-beamed ceilings, mosaic-tiled bathrooms, and charming shuttered windows opening over the building’s leafy courtyards, where an al fresco breakfast is served when weather permits. There’s an excellent Spanish restaurant located in the convent’s original kitchen and wine cellar. An expansive terrace is ideal for relaxing with coffee or a glass of Rioja while planning sightseeing excursions into the surrounding neighborhood, and carefully landscaped gardens, complete with a seasonal outdoor pool, face views of the city’s famous cathedrals." - Tablet Hotels

Great location and has parking. Room was ok. Very warm and AC didn’t really have an impact. Opening the window did but meant early morning noise. Breakfast selection was good. Nice welcome with explanation of the city. More than two coffee pods per day would have been nice!

The hotel was easy to find by car—quiet access via city roads, with excellent signage leading us right to the entrance. There’s ample on-site parking (20–30 spaces), secured behind gates at night and monitored by CCTV. Upon arrival we were greeted immediately: someone took our bags and parked our car indoors.||Location is perfect. 2 mins walk from central old town which is absolutely beautiful and a worthwhile visit. We will be back for longer! ||Exceptional welcome & service. Staff were extremely friendly and spoke excellent English, which helped since our Spanish is very limited.||Our room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and a pleasant view over the grassy courtyard. The air conditioning worked wonderfully—so much so that we were almost too cold with 40 °C outside! The only downside: the pillows were a little too firm and lumpy (synthetic), our sole criticism.|The style struck a charming, classic rustic tone. While some elements felt slightly dated, everything was impeccably clean.|The pool area, accessed via steps from the carpark, offered a stunning view and came with convenient access to a bar and toilets.|We found the restaurant lovely, with staff who were very professional. We were accidentally charged for someone else’s dinner, but they refunded us promptly with no fuss. The puddings were excellent!|Complimentary Wi‑Fi was also provided.

We loved our stay at the Hotel Hospes Palacio San Esteban. The hotel staff is superlative with very helpful and kind reception staff. Upon arrival we were given historic center maps with explanations and recommendation. Our room was a Deluxe room and was perfect. The bed was super comfy with great linens. Spotlessly clean and a bathroom with a tub and a stand alone shower. There were plenty of outlets for charging devices. Small mini-fridge with chargeable drinks and a hot water kettle. At first we were concerned about having room 14 over the lobby and looking over the parking lot but noise was not an issue at all. The AC worked well. There is a safe in the large closet. The location of the hotel is excellent. 5-10 min walk from all the historic center sites. Parking was available for our rental. Tight spots and chargeable to our room. WiFi was excellent throughout our stay. Breakfast was excellent, included in our rate and begins at 7:30 am. We loved Salamanca and would definitely stay here if we come back.

This is our third time at this hotel in Salamanca, and we continue to have very pleasant experiences here. The hotel is beautiful, rooms are large and comfortable, and the restaurant is very good. But the staff is exceptional! Our luggage was delayed in Madrid, and the front desk staff were all kind and helpful. Paulino made a couple of phone calls trying to assist us and never once acted as if he minded helping, even though I’m sure he had other things he needed to do. We will certainly stay here again when in the lovely city of Salamanca.

I stayed at this hotel during a short trip to Salamanca to visit the historical archives, and it ended up being one of the highlights of my stay.||The building has a lot of charm and history, you can feel it the moment you walk in. The staff was very professional and helpful throughout. What really stood out, though, was the restaurant: the food was absolutely delicious, every single meal was a treat. I highly recommend trying it even if you’re not staying at the hotel.||The location is also excellent, very central and just a short walk from the archives, which was perfect for my visit.||A great experience overall. I’d definitely stay here again.

Hotel itself and rooms are a bit dated but it does reflect what you expect largely in Spain. ||As a Design Hotel no real Ambassador or Marriott benefits other than a potential upgrade which we didn’t get. Breakfast you have to pay for and it’s expensive for what it is, better value outside. ||Great location and has the benefit of a pool but it can get busy and sun is strong until early evening so it can be difficult to get a lounger with umbrella. Pool staff are great but food service is limited and very slow.||Staff great throughout. Parking €16 a day. Good housekeeping, day and night. ||Salamanca is a hidden gem and arguably Spain’s most beautiful City. ||It’s a hotel that I would stay in again.

I would not advise visiting with a pet dog- they are not welcome, contrary to what is advertised. Our dog is unable to go anywhere, including outside areas, apart from the room or the restaurant terrace but only when we are eating. Highly restrictive and has effectively confined us to our room given it's 38 degrees outside. We've stayed in many pet friendly hotels around Salamanca and in Spain previously and never before experienced anything like this. It's a beautiful building but there are nicer and friendlier similar hotels in the Salamanca area. We will not return here.

So far, the best place to stay in Salamanca is located a few steps from the main streets and beside the Convento de San Esteban, a Dominican Monastery with a wonderful church. The restaurant El Monge is something that needs a review apart from the hotel, it is perfect and local, beautiful and delicious, and charming. The staff at the reception is always helpful and gentle, and ready to assist you. The room we had with a garden view was amazing, the amenities, the bed, and the ambiance that made us feel at home. Unforgettable time. Many thanks to you all! Highly recommended.
