Hotel Ideale

We found this lovely family owned Hotel on Trip Advisor. I’ve wanted to come to Assisi my whole life and we wanted a good restful location to kick off our trip to Italy. This was the Ideal spot! High up with a view of the whole area, we got the Deluxe Balcony room and as my husband opened the door, the bells of St Chiara started…. Gorgeous, quiet, helpful with all the amenities. Even had AC! The breakfasts are delicious . Service attentive but also give us space. We couldn’t have asked for a better place. Thank you!

This was our second stay at Hotel Ideale. We loved it the first time and this time was even better. We had a queen room with balcony. The views from the balcony and even from the bathroom are majestic. The family that runs the hotel quickly becomes our family. Marco is amazing and will help in any way. He made reservations 3 nights at 3 great places for dinner. This place has our heart and we can't wait to return!

We were a group of 11 who descended on the idyllic Hotel Ideale. We were welcomed warmly and given many useful tips on bus times and how to get around. Great location - 2 min walk to the bus terminus, 5 min walk into the heart of town, 15 min bus ride to St Mary of the Angels bascilica). We enjoyed tastefully appointed large bedrooms with balconies overlooking the valley below, hearty breakfast, very clean and comfortable!

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. We received a really warm welcome. We arrived early and they allowed us to park our car while we went for a stroll around Assisi until our rooms were ready.||Our room had two Windows both had spectacular views. Bed was comfy and the room was very clean. ||All the staff and the owners were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had an amazing time.

Exceeded Expectations (even though I’ve wanted to go to Assisi most of my life and probably had high expectations!) . The staff were helpful and delightful and also gave us the space we needed to rest up for the rest of our journey in Italy. The deluxe balcony is worth it if you desire to soak in the town and prayerful atmosphere . Would definitely return . Great breakfasts (offers of Sweet or Salty). Family owned . Garden, views…. We will return!

Our experience at Hotel Ideale in Assisi was amazing. The views from our balcony were breathtaking, particularly the sunsets. The owners were also nothing short of amazing. Marco was so helpful. They were all very friendly, couldnt do more for us. The breakfasts were also amazing, with fresh local food. If you go to Assisi you can't go wrong if you stay there!!

My husband and I have had the great pleasure of staying at Hotel Ideale six times over the past eleven years: in 2014 (3 nights), 2016 (6 nights), 2019 (10 nights), 2022 (13 nights), 2023 (13 nights) and May/June 2024.(13 nights). I cannot say enough wonderful things about this beautiful hotel and the delightful family who runs it! The hotel is picturesque. We have loved each of the rooms we have stayed in over our six different visits. (During our first three stays, we were traveling with our then-tween/teen-aged daughter; during our more recent stays my husband and I have traveled alone.) Our rooms have been quite spacious, especially by European standards. The views from every room have been spectacular. The hotel is located in “upper town” Assisi, and has gorgeous views of the town, the Umbrian countryside, and the mountains in the distance. The terrace (and our room) provided amazing views of the gorgeous sunsets each night||The hotel is very nicely set away from the busier, more touristy areas of Assisi. That said, we could easily walk to Piazza del Comune within 5 minutes to be in “the thick of the action” whenever we wanted. The hotel is a quick, easy 10 minute walk to the Basilica of St Clare, so it is the perfect place to stay if you want to walk to Mass in the early morning (before the busloads of tourists arrive) and then return to the hotel for the PHENOMENAL breakfast.||Signora Marisa creates the most AMAZING pastries, which are both beautiful and delicious. (Personally, I am one who doesn’t normally like to eat pastries, but I make an exception for Signora Marisa’s pastries, as they are more delicious than any I have encountered in my lifetime! 😊 She also makes a lovely looking “salty” breakfast with eggs, meats, and cheeses, but I never wanted to pass up her gorgeous “Dolce” platter.) Marisa uses several ingredients that she grows and harvests right on hotel property. During recent visits, we especially enjoyed the fruits that were in peak season, as she prepared them in all manner of delicious dishes.||During our most recent visit, one evening we got "rained in" and ended up having one of the most lovely, romantic evenings of our entire trip. Marco (the wonderful man who tends the hotel and its guests in the evenings) created a beautiful charcuterie board for us. With great pride, he gave us descriptions of each of the meats and cheeses, and explained the precise location from which each food came. (Every one of the items was local, including an especially delicious sparkling white wine.) Thanks to Marco, even heavy rain and thunder did not dampen our special evening. 😊||The hotel is very clean. The housekeepers are very friendly and thorough. The grounds are beautiful. However, what makes Hotel Ideale so special to us is the sweet family who has been running it since 1978. It is inspiring to see the care and attention to detail that each member of the family invests in their work — from Signora Marisa creating her exquisite breakfasts, to her daughters, Lara and Ilania, making the most delicious cappuccino and other coffee drinks, to Signore Dino cheerfully greeting each guest and serving them breakfast, before spending the rest of the morning sweeping the driveway by hand, tending the garden, mowing the grounds, and watering the garden. Throughout each of our visits over the past eleven years, Lara has always been excellent to work with in making our reservations and helping us find anything we need around town. I cannot say enough great things about this delightful family and their beautiful hotel. Although there are many beautiful spots around Assisi, my husband and I would never stay anywhere other than Hotel Ideale.

Hotel Ideale is one of our favorite hotels in Italy and here is why: 1) The staff. Lara and her family are honest, friendly, eager to please, and provide both comfortable, yet authentic and tasteful Italian accommodations (e.g., the handcrafted ceramic sinks), and fresh, homemade breakfasts every morning; 2) The location. It is easy to walk to the center of the city and only a short walk to the cathedral. All this plus terraces overlooking the Umbrian valley below. 3) Parking on site. If you are renting a car, this hotel provides easy access to parking on the property. We have stayed at Hotel Ideale three different times and consider Lara and her family our Italian family as well

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING!! My wife and I stayed at Hotel Ideale in Assisi for 2 nights in June 2024 and believe that the family that owns the hotel is breaking into the room safe and stealing money/valuables from guests! The first time we came back and found the safe open there was maybe a small chance we forgot to lock it but then the 2nd day both my wife and I made 100% sure we locked it only to find it opened again when we got back to the room and $100 was taken from my wifes wallet! The owner said they have the only key so there is only 1 person who could have opened it. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE AND IF YOU DO, DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE ROOM SAFE! Please also like this so it will be at the top for anyone looking at reviews.

One of the best places i have ever stayed at. What a view of Assisi. What a great service. Everyone is super friendly. Seems like a family business. Our room was clean and great size with a balcony overlooking the whole town. Our reservation included breakfast too and it was sooo good. 100% staying here again and maybe longer than 2 nights.

Absolutely amazing stay at this lovely bed and breakfast. The room was clean and well kept and the views spectacular. The manager, Marco, was kind and attentive, and the owners are truly lovely people. The food was incredible and made fresh from local produce. We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely repeat.

We have been an avid travelers for 40 years and have stayed in everything for hostels to 5 star hotels. Never in all these years have I been treated so poorly,. The owners are horrible people and do not care about customer service or doing the right thing. They stole from an 80 year old lady and DO NOT CARE. We don't know why Rick Steve's would recommend a place with such nasty owners. We will be campaigning for this hotel to be removed from his travel guide and advise all Americans to stay away from these RIPOFF Artists. They know you will probably not return - so they do not care how they treat you. CHECK ALL THE REVIEWS ON THIS SITES AND OTHER SITES AND YOU WILL SEE WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES WITH THIS EXPERIENCE. STAY AWAY,. THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER CHOICES. WE DO NOT THINK THIS HOTEL IS A GOOD REPRESENTATION OF ITALIAN PEOPLE .

We stayed there several years ago and by far it was the best value of all the hotels we stayed at. The view was incredible and the free continental breakfast was prepared by the owner's mother, who baked all the goodies. The rooms all have rustic charm. We felt most welcome there. It was closer to the "real" Italy than the touristy hotels in Rome, etc. Hard to find especially if you don't have a car.

What a great B&B! Breakfast was very nice with meats, fruit, cakes and, of course, caffe. They have a beautiful overlook of Umbra and is central to Assisi. I would stay her again! English is spoken, but not by all. But, they do have their own parking, which is great.

A most difficult review to write. Hotel Ideale has a great location in Assisi. Located at the crest of a hill, some of the rooms have spectacular views of the valley. Managed by Dino the hotel is clean, quiet and well operated. Breakfasts in a room off the lobby were some of the best we had in Italy. I really could go on and on regarding the positives. Now here's the downside. For reasons I do not understand, Dino chooses to like some guests but not others. Dino would be welcoming to most other guests but would scowl and appear annoyed when I was present. Even my wife said Dino's behavior made her feel uncomfortable. I don't understand the behavior as I had the utmost respect for Dino, his energy, attention to detail and passion for the hotel. Sure there are cultural and language barriers. Regardless of differences, it is inexcusable for paying guests not to be treated with respect. Hotel Ideale is a good place to stay if staff chooses to welcome you.
