We can’t say enough good things about Hotel Ideale in Assisi. The location is amazing overlooking Assisi and the Umbrian Valley. Our room had a balcony that took full advantage of the beautiful view. The hotel is small and well maintained; our room was small but efficient. Although you have the ambiance of an older property, the rooms, bathrooms and common areas reflect a recent and tasteful updating. Most importantly, the hotel is run by a family who has your comfort as their highest priority. All the members of the family are very friendly, and the attention to your comfort is evidenced by the wonderful breakfast served each morning. Hotel Ideale is a perfect place to stay in Assisi, and we would visit the hotel if our travels take us here again.

Hotel Assisi is a gorgeous family owned and run hotel. The pride of ownership is evident. The staff are friendly family members. The views of the rooms facing the valley are highly recommended for sunsets and all day observing. The outdoor patios areas also offer spectacular scenic views of the valley and are accessible to all guests. The rooms are on the smaller side with tight box-style showers only. Breakfast is served with diverse food options but limited in variety. The location is just outside the old city to be away from the crowd noise and close enough for walking anywhere in the city. The price is reasonable and representative for the quality. Best of all are the hard working family members and their dedication to treating guests properly and professionally. They really value their guests.

Our three-night stay in this beautiful place was perfect: a large and comfortable room with stunning views, a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower, a kind and friendly staff, and easy walking distance to Assisi’s most important historic sites. We had been browsing Assisi hotels on TripAdvisor for more than a year, trying to find a recommended hotel which could provide a quiet refuge as well as proximity to the train station, since we would be traveling through Italy by train. When we read the reviews of Hotel Ideale, and especially when we browsed the hotel’s web site and saw the spectacular views from the upper rooms, we knew that this was indeed the “ideal” hotel. We booked six months in advance in order to ensure a queen room with a balcony, and we received an immediate e-mail confirming our reservation. When the hotel staff learned that we would be arriving by train on March 30, they kindly sent an e-mail message asking if we would like a taxi to meet us at the station to drive us to the hotel. They even specified that the taxi driver would be a young man named Lorenzo and that he would meet us outside the station when our train arrived in Assisi. On the day we arrived, there was Lorenzo waiting for us, and he even carried our bags up to our room once we were inside the hotel. He was a helpful and engaging young man, and his English was excellent.||There were 33 steps leading from the hotel reception on the ground floor to room 31, which was our room. We had no trouble at all climbing the stairs (there is no elevator), and the climb was certainly worth the reward: we stepped from the bedroom onto the balcony to find sweeping, breath-taking views of Assisi. Later in the day, we had a knock at the door from Mario, a family member who wanted to say hello and to ask if we were enjoying our stay. We were impressed by personal touches such as this.||Breakfast each morning was brought to us on a tray by one the elder members of the family: a delightful, gregarious man (whom we affectionately referred to as Grand-Papa) who lovingly attended to our every need as if we were his own family. The breakfast was such a work of art that we were reluctant to dip our knives and forks into it, but dip we did! The tray displayed a large cream-filled croissant, fresh fruit, slices of meat and cheese, bread, yogurt, and a generous slice of a homemade fruit tart. Orange juice and coffee were brought to the table as well.||We walked everywhere in Assisi and enjoyed the labyrinth of medieval streets, but certainly one of the most beautiful things we saw was the sunset from our balcony each evening.||We used Lorenzo’s taxi service to return to the train station when we left Assisi, but there are also buses which connect the station to Piazza Matteotti, which is just around the corner from the hotel. The bus may have been a less expensive way to travel from the hotel to the station, but we considered the taxi well worth the extra cost, since it took us promptly from door to door without having to board a bus with luggage.||Grazie mille to everyone at Hotel Ideale who made our stay so pleasant and memorable.||William McLoughlin in Columbus, Ohio, USA

We stayed in the repurposed and renovated Perlasio apartment, built within the walls of a Roman Amphitheatre, a short walk from the main hotel. It was truly a peaceful, restful refuge after 5 days in Rome. Gorgeous gardens, wonderful views, you are surrounded by beauty and history. It is very private, tastefully and thoughtfully renovated. The kitchenette has countertop burners, a microwave oven, fridge, espresso machine, a selection of cooking and dinnerware. The bed is very comfortable, the entire room and bathroom were clean and bright. It is walking distance from a great local bar/café (they make good coffee and pizza in a pinch) and a walkable distance to the main piazza, churches, shops and restaurants of the upper town. There are local buses and taxis easily available if walking is an issue or to get you to and from the lower town and train station. The view from the hotel veranda is exceptional- exquisite - and the coffee is excellent. Hotel staff are friendly, helpful and thankfully, multilingual. If we ever have the opportunity to visit Assisi again, we will definitely return to Hotel Ideale and we would recommend it to others without hesitation.

Google
One of our favorite hotels ever, beautiful updated rooms, views of Assisi that can’t be beat, and an incredible family that runs the hotel. The breakfast rivals any fine restaurant, and in the midday when we wanted a bottle of wine and something to snack on, they provided us with a master class plating of meat, cheese, bread, fruit and pastries…. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting. Oh and the location can’t be beat, minutes to the upper city.

Love this hotel but more like a bed and breakfast. Run by a gracious family, you feel like you at home. The continental breakfast is plentiful. Fresh fruit, fresh yogurt and plenty of bread cheese meat and the best cappuccino’s. Laura’s mother and father serve you and Laura makes the cappuccinos. Laura is always concerned that you are content. We stayed at the spacious apartments. The rest of our group stayed at the hotel. No complaints just great hospitality. Close to everything.

Hotel with the best view in Assisi to wake up to and go to sleep with. No need to leave hotels with that relaxing view. Kind and helpful hospitality, good coffee, breakfast, wine etc… rooms with exclusive vintage vibe. It’s my second time here, and I enjoy a lot ❤️

We found this lovely family owned Hotel on Trip Advisor. I’ve wanted to come to Assisi my whole life and we wanted a good restful location to kick off our trip to Italy. This was the Ideal spot! High up with a view of the whole area, we got the Deluxe Balcony room and as my husband opened the door, the bells of St Chiara started…. Gorgeous, quiet, helpful with all the amenities. Even had AC! The breakfasts are delicious . Service attentive but also give us space. We couldn’t have asked for a better place. Thank you!

Yelp
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING!! My wife and I stayed at Hotel Ideale in Assisi for 2 nights in June 2024 and believe that the family that owns the hotel is breaking into the room safe and stealing money/valuables from guests! The first time we came back and found the safe open there was maybe a small chance we forgot to lock it but then the 2nd day both my wife and I made 100% sure we locked it only to find it opened again when we got back to the room and $100 was taken from my wifes wallet! The owner said they have the only key so there is only 1 person who could have opened it. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE AND IF YOU DO, DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE ROOM SAFE! Please also like this so it will be at the top for anyone looking at reviews.

Yelp
One of the best places i have ever stayed at. What a view of Assisi. What a great service. Everyone is super friendly. Seems like a family business. Our room was clean and great size with a balcony overlooking the whole town. Our reservation included breakfast too and it was sooo good. 100% staying here again and maybe longer than 2 nights.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing stay at this lovely bed and breakfast. The room was clean and well kept and the views spectacular. The manager, Marco, was kind and attentive, and the owners are truly lovely people. The food was incredible and made fresh from local produce. We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely repeat.

Yelp
We have been an avid travelers for 40 years and have stayed in everything for hostels to 5 star hotels. Never in all these years have I been treated so poorly,. The owners are horrible people and do not care about customer service or doing the right thing. They stole from an 80 year old lady and DO NOT CARE. We don't know why Rick Steve's would recommend a place with such nasty owners. We will be campaigning for this hotel to be removed from his travel guide and advise all Americans to stay away from these RIPOFF Artists. They know you will probably not return - so they do not care how they treat you. CHECK ALL THE REVIEWS ON THIS SITES AND OTHER SITES AND YOU WILL SEE WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES WITH THIS EXPERIENCE. STAY AWAY,. THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER CHOICES. WE DO NOT THINK THIS HOTEL IS A GOOD REPRESENTATION OF ITALIAN PEOPLE .

Yelp
We stayed there several years ago and by far it was the best value of all the hotels we stayed at. The view was incredible and the free continental breakfast was prepared by the owner's mother, who baked all the goodies. The rooms all have rustic charm. We felt most welcome there. It was closer to the "real" Italy than the touristy hotels in Rome, etc. Hard to find especially if you don't have a car.

Yelp
What a great B&B! Breakfast was very nice with meats, fruit, cakes and, of course, caffe. They have a beautiful overlook of Umbra and is central to Assisi. I would stay her again! English is spoken, but not by all. But, they do have their own parking, which is great.

Yelp
A most difficult review to write. Hotel Ideale has a great location in Assisi. Located at the crest of a hill, some of the rooms have spectacular views of the valley. Managed by Dino the hotel is clean, quiet and well operated. Breakfasts in a room off the lobby were some of the best we had in Italy. I really could go on and on regarding the positives. Now here's the downside. For reasons I do not understand, Dino chooses to like some guests but not others. Dino would be welcoming to most other guests but would scowl and appear annoyed when I was present. Even my wife said Dino's behavior made her feel uncomfortable. I don't understand the behavior as I had the utmost respect for Dino, his energy, attention to detail and passion for the hotel. Sure there are cultural and language barriers. Regardless of differences, it is inexcusable for paying guests not to be treated with respect. Hotel Ideale is a good place to stay if staff chooses to welcome you.
