Hotel Il Belvedere Matera

A dream stay in the heart of Matera! Il Belvedere is, by itself, a reason to revisit the stunning city of Matera. It is located in a breathtaking and easily accessible spot within the dreamy Old Town. The Room: Our room, a traditional cave dwelling, was beautiful, spacious, and elegantly decorated. It offered every modern amenity while remaining quiet, warm, and cozy—the perfect place for rest and relaxation. We even had our own private little veranda! The bathroom was also large and beautifully designed. Breakfast & View: Breakfast was rich and full of authentic local flavors. The view from the hotel's main terrace is simply breathtaking, offering a panoramic outlook over the Old Town and the river. Service & Access: The staff was outstanding—polite, always ready to help, and with excellent English skills. Access to the hotel is very easy, with a municipal parking lot just a 1-minute walk away. Thank you for everything! We can’t wait to come back.

We just arrived from a lovely stay at the Hotel Belvedere. Their cave rooms are planned to perfection. They can fit so many things in it without us feeling claustrophobic. Their terrace out of the lobby offers a magnificent view of the city, gorge and canyon formation. Fabiana welcomed us with care and determined to please. I had no expectations due to previous experiences where photos do not match the actual settings. However, the hotel changed my perspective completely. Not only were the receptionists helpful, the introduction to amenities and their backyard was absolutely on point. The room was really comfortable. Everything was just wonderful.

The hotel Il Belvedere is located in a scenic area which allows you the opportunity to enjoy the Sassi. We were warmly greeted at reception and the staff took us to our room and explained in great detail the ancient cave dwelling where we were staying. The gentleman was very kind and spoke slowly in Italian (I am not quite fluent in Italian) so that I was able to understand him. However, he would have gladly switched to English if I asked. The room was comfortable and well equipped and the TV offered many options. ||Pay secure parking was very convenient and located just 3 minutes away by foot. It was an easy 5-10 minute walk to reach the restaurants and shops of the ancient Sassi. Lots of quality restaurants nearby to enjoy the local cuisine. Matera is a uniquely beautiful ancient city. Unfortunately, the weather was very unusual for October (cold, rainy, windy) and we were unable to dine outdoors or sit at the hotel patio and enjoy a glass of wine while viewing the incredible scenery. However, we will be back and stay at least a couple of nights.

What a wonderful experience staying at this hotel. We were greeted by Simone' who welcomed us to his beautiful property. Great communication from booking to arrival and helping us find convenient parking very close by. We stayed in room 201 - superior with a small patio terrace on the ground floor. Our cave room was very clean, spacious and classy. Hotel has a beautiful terrace overlooking the sassi and just a few short 3–5-minute walk to restaurants into old town, highly recommend a stay here and would return again in a heartbeat! Breakfast included was a nice bonus.

The Junior Suite—Caves was amazing. Compared to typical tiny, tiny typical European rooms, this one was 2-3 times the size of rooms we’ve stayed. The room is a cave that people actually lived in but, with all the appropriate updates. It has a private gated entry. The view outside the gate is amazing—overlooking Sassi Caveoso—the oldest section of the city. Staff super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.|Parking is a challenge. The road is one way so Park up the hill about 100 meters before the hotel. It’s an underground parking garage. Access may be a little tough the first time but the views make it worth the trouble.

Recently stayed at il Belvedere with two other friends. We stayed in the non cave rooms which were lovely with lots of light and very spacious. The service and assistance that we received from every staff member was exemplary. The terrace over looking the old city, caves and canyon was seriously to die for. The locations is perfect and within an easy walk to anything and everything. I have given this B&B 5 star rating but if I had been able to give it 6 stars, I would have….!

Extremely cool hotel to stay in and definitely worth it for the experience of staying in a cave! Staff was all very friendly and helpful and they also have a great breakfast spread in the morning! ||10/10 would recommend.
