This historic Hotel, founded in the late 1700s, is in a great location in the center of Veracruz, looks quite nice from outside as well as in the ornate, marbled lobby. The said lobby even features an antique Swiss elevator that was once a fixture in the Chapultepec Palace in Mexico City, it is truly a treasure. However this Hotel has clearly seen better days. The first room we were assigned had large puddles of mysterious water on the floor. We asked for another room, which was promptly given to us. This next room was severely infested with fungus and mold. Dead mushrooms hung from the ceiling of the bathroom alongside large patches of black mold. I fully understand that mold and fungus can be a recurring issue in historical buildings, particularly in rainy areas such as Veracruz, but it was quite gross. I wouldn't stay there again.

No working internet. The TV constantly froze. If you don't ask they don't clean the room. All the tvs don't work. They moved me twice. TV. Internet don't work. The staff was nice but in the parking area smells of sewer...very disappointed.

Many problems internet and tv didn’t work, the AC didn’t work, the elevator didn’t work. No hot water and there was mold in the bathroom. We mentioned all of these thing the the reception and they were all. Very rude and just said “sometimes that’s just how things are here” ||I would have just left and found another hotel but I had already paid for it.

This place is not to far from the local beach and there are shops around like food places (lunch, dinner, breakfast , ice cream, bars). The staff was helpful when I called the number stated in Google maps. I came in with 4 people for 1 night and was offered a room (112) with 2 size full beds. The inside of the room was okay-can be improved such as cleaner sheets !! There was working air conditioner, television in my room and a window. It was very quite and I was able to sleep well. Elevator needs better improvement ( only 2 people is allowed) or take stairs .

This hotel has clearly seen better days. Ok, the location is great as you are on the zocalo, the lobby is beautiful and the art-decò lift is enchanting, you feel to be brought back in 1800! But the staff, although friendly and polite, is a little confused on reservations (took five minutes to find ours) and prices. Our room, we got one in the "new" side, was huge but a little shabby, old-furnished and with kitchens/garage view. On the other hand bathroom was gorgeous, marble made and spotless clean. Somewhat mixed feelings, don't know if I would stay here again.

The hotel is right downtown in the Zocalo and on the central plaza. While it can get noisy at night, especially on the weekends, closing the doors helps. Plus, the music is charming to listen to. The hotel is historical, and the staff are improving it bit by bit. The rooms and beds are impeccably clean. The breakfast is delicioso. It was fun to step outside, have a beer on the plaza, and people watch.

I went to this hotel after being shown rooms in the neighbouring Hotel Colonial: they showed me a "cheaper" back room: dark, smelly and without a window - dreadful, and they wanted about $40 for that (the front rooms had light, for about 550 pesos, but prices change in line with hotel "policies").||This place also has back rooms and more pricey front rooms. In a back room you can see some rotting cement walls. At the front you can view the cathedral, the Zocalo, people and palm trees, so take your pick. The hotel has clearly had better days. It has an old-world charm, but needs a face lift and basic repairs. The antique lift is worked by a young porter who seldom speaks; you have to ring the bell to be taken up in the contraption. My room was OK, the view was the best part, the air conditioning was faint, so I turned it on with a fan, the bathroom was old, but clean. The room seemed clean.|

Firstly, my reservation from an online service was nowhere to be found at the hotel on this holiday weekend. Luckily (I guess) they had a room. Upon a quick scan of the room, I found it in dingy, but acceptable order. When I checked the bathroom, I found no seat on the commode! When I brought this to their attention, I was asked if I would mind moving, as a couple of older ladies could not make it up the 5th floor, as the elevator only goes to the 3rd floor (I'm sure the ladies were thrilled with the bathroom situation.) The hotel was built in the late 1700s and probably renovated for the last time in the early 1800s. When I went to check out, I was presented with a bill for 500 pesos ($50US,) a bit steep for what I got, but tolerable. I was told that when I returned the next weekend, the stay would be cheaper. Upon my second checkout, they tried to charge me 600 pesos! I reminded the english speaking manager of his 'discount offer.' He did bring my bill down to 500 pesos. With so many other hotels in Veracruz, you should avoid this 'historic' hotel.
