Hotel Indigo Birmingham Five Points S - Uab, an IHG Hotel

The great - the staff. They were really friendly, helpful, and overall wonderful. The good - the room was super nice, clean, mostly quiet for downtown, and pet friendly; except I greatly still resent being charged a high pet fee for a one night stay. Either be pet friendly and work that pet tax in to your room rates, or don't be pet friendly. It's exorbitant. Anyway, the bad - I booked the room because it was pet-friendly and listed an on site full service restaurant. I get to the restaurant and it's actually a HIEX-like "breakfast room", with a bar. Tv blaring. And there's no food. The in-room menu listed all these wonderful things. The actual menu listed wings, fries, a club sandwich and a side salad. that's it. But oh tonight we only have wings and fries. I was so disappointed. The great- the person working was very apologetic and was great to talk to while I had my fries and side salad dinner. No club available, but he did have enough fresh greens to make me a salad lol. I checked out early; valet was very quick and efficient (and expensive). I needed change to tip both valet and breakfast person but front desk "doesn't keep change". Luckily for the valet between them at 7am they were able to figure it out and break the $20. Now for the really bad: climate control for the rooms is AT THE FRONT DESK! I couldn't change the temp in my own room. This is unacceptable.

The overall service received was awful. I'll begin with the valet. The valet guy was sitting behind the valet desk at the front entrance as I parked at the front door. He did not ask if I was checking in or if I was parking my vehicle with the hotel. Another car pulls up behind my vehicle while I'm standing next to my car, and he immediately went to their vehicle and began assisting them, totally ignoring me and my wife. My next encounter with the same guy, my wife and I were waiting to request our vehicle. Standing next to the valet stand, again another parson exits the elevator and the valet attendant coming back from parking a car, did not address me and my wife. He stops in the middle of the hall asking the white couple if they needed help. This was blatant and intentional disrespect. It was a hurtful situation to a person that speaks highly of the IHG Brand. This valet guy does not represent my experiences and expectations that come with IHG. My check in at the front desk was also awful. After driving several hours and attempting to get rest before our event, I was told the room was not ready at 4pm. I was not able to check in until 5pm, which is also unacceptable. Especially given there are only 8 rooms on the entire 8th floor. The overall experience at The Hotel Indigo Five Points was significantly lacking in customer service and attention to details. The experience was so bad that I would not recommend any of my friends or coworkers visit that particular property.

We got the biggest room and it was spacious. But so hot. It was consistently at 70, and it turned off in the middle of the night and got up to 73. The staff was helpful. The area is just okay. It was a little sketchy at night. There are two delicious coffee shops across the street. You can find better for the price! Do not pay this much for a room that doesn’t get cold and doesn’t have a smart tv…in 2025.

Staff was friendly and available. Deloris served up some good coffee in the morning. Beds were comfortable and room clean. The facility was not up to Indigo standards IMO. Poor condition of elevators, ice machines, towels, hardware in bathrooms, bedside outlets, key cards. Did not meet the price point or expectation for Hotel Indigo. Our Asheville, NC experience has been great at Indigo, but this was not worth it at all. The only way to change temp settings in the room is to contact the front desk, which is annoying. Also, our "front desk" button on the phone wasn't working so we had to physically visit the front desk to change setting. Not the end of the world, but not ideal.

We checked in around 8pm. The staff were tired, talking to each other, and not overly interested in greeting us. There was a very insistent valet person who wanted $38 to park my car at the deck below the hotel, but would not be there in the AM. I wanted to self park, but was told that was not an option and I had to park on the street. I paid extra when I booked for parking. The room was very dirty. The bathroom has hair everywhere and sticky stuff in the sink. There was also sticky stuff on the toilet. The carpet was dirty, and the sheets smelled musty. There were shampoo containers on the wall, but they were empty. The towels were stained. I ordered a glass of red wine and a gin and tonic from the bar. There was no red wine and no tonic. There was a 8oz bottle of soda that was already opened and flat, but that was the only mixer they had for the gin. There was a bottle of white cooking wine, so they served me some of that. My bar tab for these two drinks was over $30. This is the worst place I have stayed in 10 years. Do not stay here!

Great location in a fun entertainment area with great restaurants nearby. The support staff was so hospitable and helpful. We were especially impressed by Marci the parking valet and Miss Delores the server/cook in the breakfast room. The night bartender was great also. The manager was a bit of a disappointment. The remote control in our room had a bit of a trick and I got it off line and could not get service. I asked her at 8 am if she could tell me how to get it fixed. She said she would send maintenence. At 10:30 I said we were going out, but could she send someone up. At 1 when we returned it still was not working. Maintenence came but didn't know how to fix it. The night maintenence man came at 3:30, fixed it with a push of 2 buttons. The room was poorly stocked. No coffe, only tea, for Kuerig. 2 sets of towels for a 3 night stay and worst of all a partially used roll of toilet tissue that didn't last 3 nights and when I called, I was told to use Kleenex. We will probably stay again but I hope the manager reads this and works with housekeeping to improve stocking rooms and maybe adds an instruction sticker on the remote and one for how to turn on shower.

As a longtime traveler and IHG Elite member, I’ve come to expect a certain level of professionalism and care from IHG properties. Unfortunately, my stay at Hotel Indigo Birmingham was a complete nightmare—the worst travel experience I can recall. I flew into Birmingham for business and checked in without issue. After settling into my room, I left for work. However, upon returning, I was horrified to find that all my belongings—clothes, toiletries, and luggage—had been taken from my room. I was in a state of panic and immediately reached out to the hotel staff for help. Despite their initial attempts to assist, the situation was terribly managed. The resident General Manager, Josh, was contacted but never reached out to me, even after multiple requests. This lack of communication added to the stress and frustration of an already horrible experience. After suggesting that the security footage be reviewed, it was revealed that a member of housekeeping had taken my belongings. While everything was recovered the following day, the handling of this incident was deeply disappointing. The GM remained unresponsive throughout the ordeal, and even after escalating the matter to the IHG corporate office, no meaningful resolution or reassurance was provided. This experience was nothing short of appalling. The lack of accountability, poor communication, and utter disregard for a guest’s peace of mind make it impossible for me to recommend this hotel. I expect far better from IHG, and this incident has shaken my trust in the brand. Avoid this property at all costs.

My husband and I were very pleased to be able to book our room for what we thought was a reasonable price. Upon arrival and giving the front desk my name, my credit card was immediately charged, even after my husband said we would be paying with another credit card. We were then charged a $50 incidental fee….never have we had such happen in previous stays. We were never able to connect to the Internet, even after calling front desk.We were unable to get our beat turned on when we arrived back at hotel after attending a concert. The room was freezing. My husband called the front d so and I as told thermostat was controlled by staff. My husband then went down to front desk to get a blanket. He was told the manager locks the linen closet at night. The next morning our poor experience continued. The unfriendliness of the woman taking our order was enough to make me want to walk out and not eat, even though we had paid at time of reserving the room. My coffee was flavored by the woman taking orders. Powdered creamer was used and not even offered liquid creamer. Needless to say, this was our worst IHG experience!
