Hotel Indigo Durham (Durham, County Durham) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The city of Durham is known perhaps above all for its picturesque historical attractions: the university, the castle, and the spectacular Norman-era Romanesque cathedral. In this environment, a rakishly modernist luxury boutique hotel might be accused of a certain insensitivity to its surroundings. Fortunately the Hotel Indigo Durham, though a luxury boutique hotel it is, commits no such faux pas: it’s set not in a decommissioned red-brick Victorian-era university building that goes by the impossibly charming name of Old Shire Hall." - Tablet Hotels

What a fabulous Hotel!||Every member of staff was welcoming and smiley. Our room was exceptional, such a comfortable, quiet room. ||The breakfast team were all working so hard and every single one of them; totally brilliant. As was the food. ||Bar staff were attentive and friendly. Reception staff were informative and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. ||The only sharp intake of breath was the £20 parking charge per night, bit like the hills in Durham - steep! ||Without a doubt we would stay again - thank you for making us so welcome, we had a fabulous stay.

We really enjoyed our stay here for 1 night. The room was very clean, tidy & modern but in keeping with the heritage. Architecture of the whole building inside & out was simply stunning from the spectacular tiled walls, gorgeous stained glass windows & dark timber throughout & impressive lighting it was one of the best decorated & charming hotels we’ve stayed in. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Durham. Great location only a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The hotel is absolutely stunning, with gorgeous original features and stain glass windows. The room was well equipped and they even supplied us with oat milk on request. Large bed and an amazing waterfall shower. Big mirror for getting ready and ample wardrobe space. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Our bedroom was turned over everday day to a great standard. Our only negative would be the cost of parking. It was £20 per night and we were away for 4 nights, so this worked out quite expensive. Would gladly stay again if in the area.

Highly recommended! It's a very beautiful hotel in the old town. Durham University offered me a room at the hotel when I attended a university seminar. It's in an excellent location, just across the Elvet Bridge, and a five- or ten-minute walk to the campus. The buildings are very old, but the rooms are modernized, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty and served in a pleasant environment. The receptionists were kind, too.

This hotel is really lovely. It is ideally situated on the edge of Durham and is in a beautiful old building that has been gently modernised. Rooms are spotless, breakfast is plentiful and there is a wide range of cocktails on offer in the bar. Just great!

Stayed for a two night break and can't praise the hotel, food and staff enough. The refurbed old council chambers is steeped in Durham history but now converted into a very modern hotel and restaurant, (Marco Pierre White). The staff were more than helpful and along with Hannah in the restaurant all deserve a star!!. The breakfast and was plentiful with so many choices, and the food in the restaurant was outstanding quality, Our room was modern and spacious with a comfy bed. The hotel location is ideal for exploring Durham city and the surrounding areas. Can only highly recommend the hotel and restaurant and will definitely return. Just one word of warning for staying guests beware if your are parking on the road outside the hotel, the traffic wardens are very sharp first thing in the morning as I found to my cost. Check with reception who will advise you..

A lovely hotel in a historic building just a short walk from the pedestrian heart of Durham. Rooms are a decent size, bathroom is superb, bed was very comfy, we didn’t hear a thing from outside, and there’s enough space for your bags. Check in is a little hard to find, it’s actually in the basement reached from the car park, but there’s a lift so it’s fine. There’s plenty of cheap parking in the street right outside, and it’s free after 6pm, or they have limited parking on site. Breakfast here was one of the best we’ve had anywhere, with a great selection of pastries, fresh fruit, cereal and some really interesting hot dishes, along with the usual full Scottish. Staff went out of the way to deal with a request for gluten free and were simply wonderful.
