The real issue here is that Indigo hotels are misbranded as boutique hotels, and essentially they are budget hotels with better decor. Fine - just be clear on that. Don’t try to misrepresent what you are delivering by putting bad eggs Benedict on the breakfast menu.
The Glasgow version of Indigo is without doubt the worst IHG hotel we’ve stayed in. Location? Yes it is a central hotel, but not the nicer bit of central Glasgow. It’s the wrong side of the Central station in a bit of a scruffy area. That isn’t good in a town like Glasgow. Substance misuse, homelessness and unsavoury pubs nearby.
The hotel staff are ‘OK’ but are not trained up to deliver boutique hotel standards. Their general demeanour, presentation, attitudes and lack of cultural/customer service awareness are apparent in everything they do.
We were staying here for our daughter’s graduation. We use the IHG chain a lot but this brand does not hit the boutique standard we bought into from the description online.
BASIC TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT didn’t work … for example the smart TV. The staff could not get it fixed or deal with this at all. When I reported it as a problem, the person on reception ‘raised a ticket’ with a 3rd party supplier, with no resolution over 3 days. Seriously …
Consequently, we tended to not use the lift because if it broke down we might die in there before they organised technical help.
Breakfast, not terrible but they just don’t know how to do it right. For example the smoked salmon shoved on a plate, badly presented. It wasn’t served with the right things, such as bagels, lemon, capers, cream cheese, none of them etc.
The bacon was virtually uncooked and everything served with cheap, bulk container condiments.
The avocado for the toast? some pre-made watery slop.
It’s a 6/10. The vinyl seating in the restaurant was sticky and seemed to have some jam residue on it. Not ideal for a pre graduation breakfast.
The soulless hotel bar, which was full of cheap, worn looking, empty uncomfortable chairs, claims to be 24 hours. If you want a horrible 24 hour bar.
The bar was in the middle of the only reception seating area for guests and often don’t have customers… but when we opened a special bottle of champagne for my daughter’s graduation we’re were rudely asked to leave the hotel seating area and told to drink it in our room. Never experienced that in ANY hotel I’ve been a guest in.
If you want a boutique hotel experience for a special occasion book somewhere else.
If you want an affordable, average city centre hotel, for a cheap city break, that’s nothing special you’ve found it.
