Hotel Indigo Shanghai On The Bund (Shanghai, China) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Indigo is the InterContinental Hotel Group’s design-oriented boutique hotel brand, and a glance at the Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund reveals that they’re not going halfway — these interiors are nothing if not eclectic, combining ancient Chinese elements with contemporary international design, and a refreshingly liberal use of color. The rooms and suites are full of high-end modern comforts, and many of them have impressive views of the skyline across the Huangpu River — as does the Char Bar and Grill, on the top three floors of the hotel, which is joined by Quay, a riverside café." - Tablet Hotels

We recently stayed again at Hotel Indigo on the Bund, and once more it exceeded all our expectations. As returning guests, we felt genuinely welcomed from the moment we arrived. The warm recognition and thoughtful gestures made us feel like coming back home rather than just checking into a hotel.A special mention goes to Duty Manager Lyna, whose professionalism and kindness stood out throughout our stay. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was smooth, from small details to personalized assistance that made a big difference. Her warm approach and genuine care really highlighted the hotel’s culture of outstanding hospitality. The views of the Bund are, of course, stunning, and the atmosphere of the hotel remains vibrant and unique, but what truly makes this place special is the way the team treats its guests. Thank you for making our return visit so memorable — we are already looking forward to the next one.

When you open the door, you will be wrapped in the old Shanghai style, and the collision between the retro furniture and modern facilities will produce a wonderful spark. It takes only three minutes to walk to the Bund, and the night view is breathtaking. The local snacks for breakfast are super authentic, and the service staff can always accurately remember the needs. The soundproofing of the room is excellent, and it is quiet in the middle of the hustle and bustle. The outline of the historical building was accompanied by the evening wind when we had a drink on the terrace, and this trip was worth the price of the ticket.

Hotel Indigo sits in a prime spot right on the Bund, offering breathtaking views of the river and Pudong skyline—easily the most memorable part of our stay. But beyond the scenery, things start to fall short. There’s no staff at the entrance to welcome or assist guests, and the lack of 24-hour service was inconvenient, especially for a hotel in this price range. On our final day, our room lock broke, nearly causing us to miss our flight; the hotel refused to take any responsibility, which was incredibly frustrating. Cleanliness and amenities were just average—not bad, but definitely not exceptional. It’s a hotel that banks heavily on its location while letting the rest slide.

We had a fantastic stay at the Indigo Hotel Shanghai! The location is excellent — right by the Bund with stunning views and easy access to the city. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our visit. As returning guests after a trip to Huangshan, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade, which made us feel truly appreciated. They also offered us a free late checkout without any hassle — such great service! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming stay in Shanghai.

Hotel Indigo sits in an incredible location right on the Bund and 7mins walk from the river cruise station. Our premier king room was wonderful with floor-to-ceiling windows, bold floral carpets a super comfortable bed and a bath and shower that offered full reviews of the Huangpu River. The cherry on the cake was attentive service and the nearly rooftop deck bar ... the perfect place to watch the sun set over Shanghai. Highly recommended.

An all together quirky 5* hotel with whacky design rooms in kaleidoscope of vibrant colours and tasteless furniture. ||The roof top bar is lovely with fabulous views of the river and surrounding vista but our group all found the manager of this establishment abrupt, rude, arrogant and money hungry hounding us for 2 G&T’s and a Diet Coke for a staggering 360 rmb. He barked out the prices of each drink as if he was making it up as he went along…we took our business elsewhere for the three nights we stayed. ||The breakfast is a 7 out of 10. You’d have thought in a cosmopolitan hotel in Shanghai they could master European style breakfast but sadly alas it’s as poor as Beijing, Xi’an and Chengdu. ||In the reception the staff are very helpful.

Overall experience was excellent. Very helpful staff on reception advised us on availability for a second night, and kept me right with our stay. Views from river view room and the bar were amazing. Food in the Quay was great for families and lots of options for kids and adults. Char restaurant was extremely overpriced so we decided not to dine there. Only slight downside was the rooftop bar on Friday/Saturday/Sunday evenings requires a charge for entry which was not advertised anywhere. It was abit off putting as hotel guests would assume they have access to this facility without additional cost. However Would stay again!

Management needs to pay attention to the upkeep and service of this hotel. I was very impressed when I visited the place for dinner in 2019. But, our recent stay there in May 2025 was much less than ideal. We were in the hotel three separate times and stayed a total of six nights. One "automatic toilet" didn't work. The workman came but couldn't fix it. The air conditioning system had to be shut off by another workman, only to be repaired by yet another engineer. The rooms and hallways and the whole hotel inside were dimly lit. The elevators didn't sound or light up adequately so I was sometimes lost. The young waiter on the sixth floor (breakfast) did not make a reservation for us for dinner at the CHAR Restaurant on the 29th floor as he promised. By the time we showed up, we were told that we could only sit at the table at the entrance. After hemming and hawing for a while, they reluctantly let us sit inside. They said that they were fully booked. But, throughout the night on May 20, the restaurant was essentially empty and we were just one of a few tables occupied. I wonder why the restaurant needed to lie. Also, the hallway smelled musty and greasy food. The views outside were excellent and that was about it.
