"When it opened in 1962, the Hotel Indonesia was a 14-story marvel of modernism that became the preferred address for visiting foreign dignitaries, movie companies, and journalists, even playing a prominent role in The Year of Living Dangerously. By the time it closed for renovations in 2004, H.I. (as it is familiarly known) was a run-down wreck in the shadow, literally and figuratively, of contemporary luxury hotels. Renovated—"reinvented" might be more apt—by the Kempinski chain, the hotel once again makes a strong bid to become the city’s top choice. Standard rooms are big (475 square feet) and are designed in a relaxed mix of traditional motifs and contemporary plushness. They come technologically equipped: Wi-Fi, a long-range cordless phone that rings at the pool or the coffee shop, and a toilet with more options than you want to read about. The excellent Signatures restaurant, presided over by life-size photos of Indonesia’s flamboyant first president, Sukarno, with Marilyn Monroe and JFK, is fitting in a city where extravagant hotel buffets are de rigueur. Guests also have signing privileges at eateries in the adjoining mega-luxe Grand Indonesia Mall."

I stayed at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta during a business trip and was impressed by the combination of history, luxury, and modern comfort. The location is unbeatable right at Bundaran HI, with direct access to Grand Indonesia Mall, making meetings, dining, and shopping extremely convenient.||My room was spacious, well-appointed, and offered a stunning city view. The staff were professional, attentive, and efficient, which made check-in and daily needs seamless. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of international and local selections, perfect to start a busy day.||The hotel’s facilities, including the rooftop pool and fitness center, were top-notch, providing a relaxing break after work. For business travelers, the meeting rooms and lounge services were outstanding.||Overall, Kempinski Jakarta perfectly blends business efficiency with five-star hospitality. I would highly recommend it for both work and leisure stays in the capital.

From the moment we arrived, the warm and gracious welcome set the tone for a truly special stay. The view of Bundaran HI, with the iconic fountain and city skyline, was both majestic and symbolic—perfect for the occasion. The service throughout was impeccable: attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely hospitable. My room was lovely the bed super comfortable lots of towels in the bathroom. The amenities could be better and the room carpet needs to be updated soon. As well as the pool area, which is not worthy of five star hotel.

Its central location next to the mall makes it easy to access restaurants, shops, and entertainment—everything is within reach.||||The room was spacious and comfortable, and the bathtub overlooking Bundaran HI was a real highlight—such a unique and relaxing way to enjoy the city view.||||The service was warm and attentive. I especially appreciated the thoughtful touch from the housekeeping team, who noticed my love for tea and added extra teas to the room after cleaning. Small gestures like that go a long way.||||Breakfast was also impressive, with a wide variety of options to suit every taste. However, there was a small miss—when a staff member offered tea or coffee, I requested tea, but unfortunately it never arrived before I left the restaurant.||||Overall, a luxurious stay with memorable service and a great city-centre location. I'd be happy to return.
