The Good, the Bad, and the Double Ugly: We arrived at the Intercity Manaus at 12:30am last night, so I am motivated to write this review while still staying at the hotel. This is my 12th-15th time in Manaus to fish over the past 20 years.
Check-in took 25 minutes for my wife and I, and they still had not checked in my son. At 12:30am mind you, after 3 hour flight from Texas then a 5 1/2 hour flight from Miami. I'm not sure if it's lousy hotel software, incompetence at the front desk, or both. The room is nice enough with a firm king size bed. As we put our stuff up, and then lay down to sleep, it was noticeable that someone had smoked previously in the room. Nothing like a couple of old athletes smelling cigarette smoke when going to sleep after a long flight. So Front Desk service, in that instance, sucked, and failing to thoroughly clean a smoked in room by repainting the walls, changing the curtains, is, well, not very good management.
Does anyone like to sleep at the recommended human sleeping temperature of 19-20 C, or 66-67 degrees F? Not with the thin little bed cover most Brazilian hotels give their customers, and intercity is no exception.
And aren't Brazilians as big as Americans? Like Anderson Silva and Lyota Machida? Why are the elevators made for midgets? I hope your not claustrophobic when 4-6 people are in those two tiny elevators. How about water glasses in the room? There were two maybe 6 ounce water glasses. I mean they were made of glass, but I would gladly take a 12-16 ounce plastic cup.
The free breakfast was good, especially the 3 egg omelette.
OK, up to the gym the next morning. Beautiful view from the rooftop, like other Brazilian hotels, lovely pool, and probably the shittiest gym I've seen in a hotel in a long time, even though most 3 star hotels are known for having skimpy gyms. Batteries in the nice internet equipped Samsung TV remote were almost dead. Adjustable weight bench broken. Free weights in terrible condition. 2 running/walking machines don't work, nor does the lights or programs come in in the elliptical trainer. Lot's of neglect by management here too. No air conditioner that I could see in the weight room, but what the heck??!! We're just in the Amazon, the equator you know, and the weight room is on the top floor where the hot air rises.
We have another night here, so maybe I will post another improved or even more negative review before we leave.
