Hotel Irma is a fabulous, low-key and friendly place to stay. It sits 100 steps above Playa Madera and has unobstructed sweeping views of Zihuatanejo bay. Right now I'm sitting on our private balcony watching dolphins lazily break the bay's always calm surface. Irma is a small hotel- 69 rooms. To me it's the perfect size. Not too small that services are lacking, not so big that you are just another guest hoping to snag a chair in the sun. None of that going on here. The staff has little turnover, so you see them year after year. They are typical of this area, friendly, eager to please and sincere. In fact we see the same guests here at the same times, so that really speaks to Irma's charm.
The restaurant is very good with something for everyone from traditional Mexican to American- all good. The open dining room overlooks the bay as well. Not a bad table in the house. Happy Hour daily 2 for 1.
Two pools, one of which is an infinity are cooling and sparkling clean. In fact the whole property is spotless.
Rooms are cozy; tiled floors, firm nice beds, crisp yet soft sheets. Bathroom has the typical shower for the area- big enough for 3 people and nice. TV, safe and excellent maid service as well. Tip her 20 pesos a couple times a week and you'll get special treats.
The lobby is softly lit and like being in someone's very nice home.
As you walk around the hotel, there are lush tropical courtyards with singing birds and flowers.
Irma is located within walking distance of a huge number of great restaurants as well as downtown centrist and Playa La Ropa. If you don't want to walk anywhere, there are always taxis out front. Cab fares are set at 30 pesos for about anywhere you want to go.
Irma is perfect for couples, families... Only thing missing here is hordes of young drunks. They don't come here- seems like little of that Cancun-like atmosphere in Zihuatanejo.
If you want a nice, inexpensive hotel in a laid back fishing village, Hotel Irma is paradise.
