Hotel Istra

While not all fixtures are really fixed at the Hotel Istra, we were so satisfied with our stay that we felt giving it anything less than five stars would be misleading. It is a wonderfully cosy place, tucked in the very heart of Varaždin, so close to everything in town that it makes the whole Varaždin feel like your extended living room. The rooms are significantly more spacious than expected, the little minibar fridge fully functional to receive the fresh fruit from the nearby farmers market (the "plac") and the staff smiling and ready to help at every turn. The oriel corner window ("erker") in the hotel cafe on the first floor overlooking an intersection of busy pedestrian streets is surely the best place in town to have breakfast, or a nightcap. And one more thing: although the temperature outside went up to 35C during our stay, the room was never too hot - and we never switched on the (otherwise fully functioning) airco during five nights of our stay.

We went there but it was not a hotel. We only saw a bank and a shoe and dress shop, there was no sign of a hotel. We kept looking for the entrance of the hotel but couldn't find it

We stayed at the Hotel Istra in Varazdin for 3 nights this past month. The location is superb, right next to the town square and the Town Hall. Coffee bars are everywhere nearby. The hotel is situated on a small street for pedestrians only. The market place is a two minute walk from the hotel. The absence of cars at the hotel entrance made the stay even nicer. Our room was great - a unique corner room with plenty of room. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and tried very hard to please in every way. The breakfast was very good with a variety of different foods at the breakfast buffet and omelets upon request every morning. Several times during our stay they were kind enough to prepare coffee for us. Parking was free and no problem once we got the hang of it. The immediate area is rich in history with a historic feel to everything nearby. We really enjoyed our stay in Varazdin, and the hotel certainly contributed to a very positive visit. As others have described, it was cozy and comfortable and we would not hesitate to stay at the Hotel Istra again if we came back to Varazdin. Overall, it was a very pleasant, enjoyable experience.

Small, familly run hotel in the heart of old town Varazdin. Everything is on walking distance, and accommodation is in accordance with advertised standards. This hotel has a great potential to serve as a clinic, because the best equipment is ready when the owners decide to turn from simple hotel to the medical center.

It is some 30 meters off the main square, so perfectly located. Just public parking available, but staff is great in helping with that. Rooms are average, but clean and basic. Staff is helpful, breakfast is somewhat boring and average. Price is a bit to high for the value.

I was there for 2 nights. The hotel is clean and in middle of Varaždin. The rooms are okey, the window is a Velux, there is no direct view, the shower is to low for adults.|Breakfast is nice and the people are very kind.

This is a cosy little hotel in the heart of the town centre. Situated above a nice little cafe.|Great friendly staff with tidy rooms. Walls between the rooms are quite thin but all in all a pleasant stay considering very little options in the area.

Very correct hotel in nice Varazdin, no cars in the center, close walk to the castle, very friendly people in the hotel, not many rooms but rooms are clean and correct. Also breakfast simple but good. i was glad i stayed there
