This room is funky, surprisngly roomy, and hidden away amidst a bustling street of boutique stores near the foodie-center of Amsterdam. The room itself lived up to the lovely image as advertised, and it was surprisingly quiet given the location. There is no hotel concierge desk, but the hotel manager/owner quickly responded to anything we needed, going beyond and above to help us figure things out. Ah, if only I could live there forever.

Lovely hotel in the heart of the canals. Room was clean, spacious, and updated. Mini fridge was stocked with water, sodas, and Heinekens and was replenished during our four night stay. Coffee maker and included pods were delicious and the robes and slippers were appreciated. |Previous reviews that mentioned the steep stairs were accurate so be prepared to haul your luggage. And like other reviews, we initially had some issues with the keyless entry but we eventually figured it out. Don’t panic-it’s an old building and that affects the doors. |We met the owner and her adorable dog, and she was very easy to communicate with prior and during our stay. |The reason for the 4 stars is because the first night the air conditioning unit wasn’t set up so the room was too warm. This was fixed before the 2nd night. Also, a bit disappointed that work was being done on the front of the property which ruined our view and made it a bit harder to find when we arrived. And, the bathroom could use a shelf so the toiletries are off the counter. |The location was perfect. We walked to numerous quaint restaurants nearby and loved being able to get back to our hotel to take a break or drop off things in our room. It was awesome to have such a spacious property in the heart of a bustling area.

This hotel is a gem! It’s in an old, beautifully restored building in the middle of the charming 9 Straatjes neighborhood, within easy walking distance of many sites. We stayed in the Huidenstraat suite, which easily accommodated our party of three as it has a sofa bed. The owner Merel provides so many thoughtful touches like free drinks in the minibar, a Nespresso machine and kettle for tea, robes and slippers, the most divine-smelling toiletries from Atelier Rebul, and wash cloths for one’s face. (This is so rare - I usually end up using a hand towel.) Merel’s charming dog, Guusje accompanies her and as far as we are concerned, is the star of the show.||The building’s front door and the suites use number codes rather than keys and once we got the trick of it, it was actually better for us than having keys. (The trick to the front door is to pull the silver knob toward you before turning it to the right after you hear the click. Also, disregard the instructions that are posted by the door that say to enter your room number. Just follow the instructions Merel sends you.) ||A few things to note: there is no onsite front desk as this is a small hotel with just five suites. Also, the hotel is in a 17th century Amsterdam building with typically steep stairs. Be mindful of this if you are of a certain age and have heavy luggage. Lastly, the shower in our suite was in between the two rooms and only had a door on one side. These are very minor niggles, though, as the clean and spacious suites and excellent location far outweigh anything. We will be back!

That facade in the pictures is not the hotel - it's just a little door in a strip of shops (right next to HaruHaru). Room was clean and cute, bathroom is basically open to the rest of the room, so only go with someone with whom you are OK sharing that much! Stairs up to the landing are narrow and steep - definitely not easily accessible if you have any ambulatory issues. Well stocked coffee bar!

We have nothing but positives to say about Hotel IX. The location is superb. I was so surprised when our suite came with a mini fridge full of complementary beverages. The room was so cute and very comfortable. Merel made sure everything was to our liking. The bed was so comfortable and after a long trip it was the best nights sleep I had had in a long while. I can't recommend it enough!

I can’t say enough good things about Hotel IX and the wonderful host, Merel. After searching for a place on Google and Hotels.com, we found Hotel IX and after our stay in the Runstraat Suite we have no hesitation in recommending it. The accommodation is great, the location is perfect and the overall experience was seamless. Our room had a huge photo of the Runsraat streetscape, and we went and checked it out in person and recreated the photo, which is a cool little touch.

Wonderful location. Excellent, clean, comfortable room. Nice to have a stocked fridge without charge for the items therein. Zero complaints from our recent stay. Many excellent restaurants within very close walking distance and museums a very short walk away.

Fabulous stay! Beautiful, comfortable, clean and spacious rooms. All the necessities plus a coffee maker and stocked mini fridge. Perfectly set away from the hoards of tourists while remaining centrally located. Easy to get to everything one would want to see or do. Merel is lovely, accommodating, and a gracious host offering assistance, local suggestions and guidance, help with dinner reservations, and even loaning us much appreciated umbrellas for the torrential downpour.

Yelp
Great B&B in the 9th district. Only a few very special suites, all individually unique. Located right near Anne Frank house in a neighborhood of shops, coffee cafes and more. The beds are luxurious and comfy. The room is a minimalistic modern design, which I adore. A glass shower/ bathroom is clean and welcoming. The linens are first class. Includes on arrival was a bottle of Pinot noir with a handwritten welcome note from the owner, Nespresso coffee maker and supplies and a mini bar with sparking water, soda and beer. Susan and Merl, the owners, do a great job of connecting via email. Susan let us check in early. A quiet please that is beautiful and Amsterdam. What a great choice. PS no TV but free wifi.

Yelp
Hotel IX was great and the perfect location. Stayed in the Wolvenstraat Suite. Very nice, clean, modern room. The bed was very comfortable and a nice big open space. The minibar was stocked daily and was free. We took advantage by drinking the water, sodas and nespresso. Wine and Heineken were provided but we aren't big drinkers. The shower had plenty of hot water and the shower amenities were very nice. In our suite we didn't have a TV, not a big deal to us. We were usually quite tired from a full day of sightseeing. WiFi was fast, password protected and included with the room. The location was about 3-4 blocks from Dam Square. Close enough to the madness of downtown Amsterdam but quiet enough you could get away from the crowds easily. One thing to note, if you have a 4 wheel spinner suitcase it is a fools errand trying to get from Amsterdam Centraal Station to the hotel by walking. Get a 1 hr or full day pass on the GVB, walk out the front and take tram 13 or 17 to the Westermarkt Stop, think it's maybe 2-3 stops from Amsterdam CS. That will drop you 2 blocks from the hotel. Only downside about this location is the church bell chimes. There didn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to them, sometimes they rang every 15 minutes, sometimes every 20. If you are a very light sleeper this may trouble you. If you live in a city it'll seem like background noise to you. There are plenty of great cafes and restaurants in the area along with nice bridges and canals to explore. (Check out Libertine Cafe around the block, great food and a very nice atmosphere) They do use an electronic keypad system for hotel and hotel room entry. If it doesn't seem to open try turning the handle left after you pull the handle out slightly. It can be tricky. The stairs are also very steep. For those who are older or have a cane, walker, wheelchair, physical impediment this would not be a good option for you as there are no rooms on the first floor.
