This hotel is a gem! It’s in an old, beautifully restored building in the middle of the charming 9 Straatjes neighborhood, within easy walking distance of many sites. We stayed in the Huidenstraat suite, which easily accommodated our party of three as it has a sofa bed. The owner Merel provides so many thoughtful touches like free drinks in the minibar, a Nespresso machine and kettle for tea, robes and slippers, the most divine-smelling toiletries from Atelier Rebul, and wash cloths for one’s face. (This is so rare - I usually end up using a hand towel.) Merel’s charming dog, Guusje accompanies her and as far as we are concerned, is the star of the show.||The building’s front door and the suites use number codes rather than keys and once we got the trick of it, it was actually better for us than having keys. (The trick to the front door is to pull the silver knob toward you before turning it to the right after you hear the click. Also, disregard the instructions that are posted by the door that say to enter your room number. Just follow the instructions Merel sends you.) ||A few things to note: there is no onsite front desk as this is a small hotel with just five suites. Also, the hotel is in a 17th century Amsterdam building with typically steep stairs. Be mindful of this if you are of a certain age and have heavy luggage. Lastly, the shower in our suite was in between the two rooms and only had a door on one side. These are very minor niggles, though, as the clean and spacious suites and excellent location far outweigh anything. We will be back!
