New Year family holiday on La Gomera off Tenerife. We had a connecting family room in what has mostly been a quiet but activity filled week. Golf was great if slow due to holiday golfers taking their time, the pools are a little on the cold side, but staff attentive. It is Fred Olsen owned so a little like a cruise ship. You’ll need to like Germans as they dominate and it seems like a cruise ship particularly at breakfast and dinner in the buffet. Breakfast is a bunfight and needs staging better. Dinner in the buffet comes with half board, but avoid it and head down to the Trattoria and El Laurel which are more expensive but far better. El Laurel is excellent, so why are all the Germans up in a queue at the buffet? There is after dinner entertainment, all very cruise ship, and very few attend which says a lot. The staff performing are miming to a recorded track, but working hard. Don’t miss the La Gomera whistling demonstration. ||We were here for New Year which had a gala dinner for all guests followed by fireworks. They tried so hard, but at least one course fewer would have suited better. The fireworks were great. ||For a week on a banana plantation Jardin Tecina is worth a visit.
