Where to Stay in Berlin When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Situated by the lovely, leafy canal, this three-star boutique hotel offers daily yoga, a comfy lobby with a co-working area, and a sunny breakfast room with a buffet (and courtyard seating when the weather's nice); rooms are large with high ceilings, free Wi‑Fi, and extra-large flatscreen TVs, and I especially love that the bathrooms have heated floors and large walk-in showers." - Matthew Kepnes

The 7 Best Hotels in Berlin (Updated 2025)

"Situated by a leafy canal in Kreuzberg, this three-star boutique hotel feels homey and family-run while offering great value; I appreciate the daily yoga, a comfy lobby with a co-working area, and a sunny breakfast room (with a buffet of fresh fruit and veggies, fairtrade coffee, cold cuts, muesli, and lots of fresh bread) that also lets you eat outside in the inner courtyard when weather permits. The rooms are big with high ceilings, large windows, and wooden floors; all have extra-large flatscreen TVs and comfy beds, bathrooms with heated floors and large walk-in showers, and larger rooms include a desk while single rooms are perfect for solo travelers on a budget. I especially like the hotel's sustainability focus—they generate almost all their own power, have extensive water and energy savings measures, and partner with a local initiative to use 'imperfect' organic produce." - Matthew Kepnes

We spent three nights at the tastefully and chicly furnished Hotel Johann in Berlin-Kreuzberg. It's a lovely hotel in a quiet location. Yet, it's very centrally located. The rooms are beautifully furnished and modern. If we were to visit Berlin again, we would definitely choose the Johann instead of checking into one of the ubiquitous large chains as anonymous guests. We really enjoyed it. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Thank you for the wonderful stay we had at the Hotel Johann.

Quiet neighborhood, nice clean rooms, lovely reception staff. Everything we needed was okay walking distance or accessible by rental bikes.

One of the best places that I've stayed in my life. Cosy, well-located, clean, comfortable. Surrounded by all shops, cafes and bars you can imagine. Strongly recommend!

I've just completed a two-week stay here, and it was wonderful. It was my first time in Berlin and I did a lot of sightseeing and concert-going each day, so it was great to return to such a warm, well-appointed environment as my home base. The hotel is located near several easy transit options, and the rooms are very comfortable and quiet. I opted to purchase the breakfast service during my stay - a really great selection that left me satisfied and primed for the day. Highly recommended. Every employee I encountered was kind, friendly, and very attentive to guests' needs. All in all, a terrific experience that really added to my trip. Without hesitation, I will look forward to booking here for my next visit, which will hopefully be quite soon!

Rooms were comfy, but there was not much lighting, and the designer light bulbs had exposed filaments. I would prefer softer lighting with diffusers, and more of it. WiFi disconnected all the time and was generally very slow on the ground floor. Breakfast was only OK and not great value. No hot options in the buffet and no hot chocolate from the machine.

Situated in a quiet residential street. Very modern and minimalistic hotel. Our room was very quiet and spacious. Great heated bathroom and very clean. Very comfy bed and a large bed. The breakfast room was large and sunny. Great selection of food on the buffet and very fresh. Will definitely stay again on our next visit to Berlin.

I loved my stay at Hotel Johann and will come back for sure! It’s in a lovely quiet part of Kreuzberg, easy walking distance to the canal and Prinzenstraße U-bahn. Hotel is quirky but cute and quiet. I had the small double room overlooking the garden in the back and it was perfect for what I needed. High ceilings and windows that open fully. You shouldn’t expect luxury, but it does provide everything you could need for stay in Berlin. Staff were friendly and gave me late check in for a reasonable price which was greatly appreciated! The only slight negative for me was the breakfast which I opted to have one morning. I thought the choice was quite limited and some things had run out by the time I came down. If you are from the UK then don’t expect a breakfast that is similar to what’s offered there. The coffee was nice and what I did have was tasty enough - they had lovely fresh honey. if you are looking for a place to stay that is slightly removed from the busy parts of Berlin then i would recommend. Be aware that the reception is not 24/7 so evenings you will need to use the side entrance and there isn’t someone in person to assist always either. There is a number you can call if you do need help though. I’m glad I chose Hotel Johann and I hope to come back soon.
