Hotel Julien, Antwerp, Belgium - Explore & Book

"Hotel Julien was one of the original boutique hotels that started the designer hotel revolution over a decade ago, and it still stands strong as one of Antwerp’s very best. Its 21 pale-but-pleasurable rooms are in the centre of the city and the hotel has everything you could wish for: the best of the best REN products in the bathrooms, huge comfortable beds, Eames chairs, luxury sofas with interior design books (and Grazia!) on their side tables, and homemade cake behind the well-stocked bar. It’s hard not to strut around the hotel like a supermodel - it just has that kind of ambiance that makes you feel special. Once you’ve stayed here, you’ll never call Belgium boring again. Spend a long weekend here and slip into the super-stylish life of Antwerp, where just a few streets away, fashion students play with looks in second-hand shops, ladies who lunch shop in world-class boutiques, and visitors flock to Rubens House for a glimpse into the city’s glittering art-filled past. Antwerp has delights at all levels, from the best chocolates in the world to groundbreaking modern art galleries, street food, fine dining and architecture to bowl you over. Highs Fantastic location by the cathedral, and within walking distance of everything in the city, including great restaurantsA soothing palette of cream, pine and purple, and lots of designer touches throughoutThe photographic art gallery spread throughout the hotel; it's all for saleA fab roof terrace with wonderful views of the Old Town - ask to eat your lovely breakfast up here if it's sunnyIt’s a hotel to namedrop Lows It's quite expensive - some might say overpriced - for a small boutique hotel; but we think the location and style warrant thisNo on-site restaurant, and limited room service & bar menuSome rooms experience noise from the street and tram tracksThe spa is small, though well equipped; and there is a charge, even if you're just using the sauna or hammamThe service can be patchy at busy times" - Laura Dixon

"As a holiday destination, Antwerp is one of Western Europe’s best-kept secrets — home to Europe’s diamond trade, Belgium’s second-largest city also happens to be its style capital, playing the fashionable foil to serious old Brussels and serving as the proving ground for a thriving Belgian design movement." - Tablet Hotels

Amazing design hotel in the middle of the old town. Everything was a 5-20 minute walk, so a perfect location. Service was perfect and our room was well-appointed with slippers and soft gowns. We didn't have breakfast as there are so many places nearby to try. We had a drink in the bar each night, making the most of the cosy lounge. Will come back!!

The hotel is great. The rooms are simple and stylish. The breakfast is outstanding. There’s an amazing bar - beautiful and cosy. Everyone in the hotel is friendly and calm. Great location too. Very close to the main places to visit in the city. Would recommend.

Beautiful space, with very charming atmosphere. The room itself was cozy and smart, but spacious for two on the go. Really friendly staff that were hospitable and helpful in making our time in the city an elevated experience. We really enjoyed started or ending the day in the lobby with a coffee or tea. Thank you!

The best thing about Hotel Julien was check out. We arrived at the hotel in the evening for a 2 nights stay, only to discover that it was under renovations. The hotel’s main building was a construction site: tools, equipment and dust everywhere with none of the public parts functioning, no lifts, reception or furniture. Only the stairs leading to the rooms were accessible. The next day was even worse, builders everywhere and levels of noise that made it impossible to stay in. |The massive refurbishment wasn’t disclosed on the hotel’s website nor on booking.com. Not even a hint. Moreover, both Emma, the new manager and Marnik, the leaving manager, who was rude and arrogant, made it clear that this was a conscious decision. Emma shared that management considered all options, including closing the place for the renovations, but then decided to stay open and charge the full rate. Because, why not? To them, an encrypted message to guests - sent the day before works started, not even straight after booking - was good enough. |We only saw this message, which required actively logging in, when it was mentioned upon arrival. It misleadingly downplayed the scale of the works, saying ‘there might be a disturbance’. In reality it was unbearable. ||Obviously had the refurbishment been disclosed on the hotel’s website, as it should have been, we wouldn’t have booked it. Management knows this and so deliberately withheld this vital info. |As a frequent traveler for over 20 years, who never wrote a bad hotel review, I was in disbelief at the shameless, greedy customer service I experienced at Hotel Julien. Absolutely disgraceful from a hospitality business. ||Attached are a few photos of the works, and on a positive note, a screenshot of a hotel in Paris I came across when it was about to undergo renovation. It shows how it should be done: full disclosure, honesty, adjusted rates. This is how you treat your guests.

Beautifully decorated, details are perfect, very friendly staff and central location BUT bedrooms on street side get noise from the street - shouting and laughing people going to and coming from clubs until 5am in the morning and motor cycles etc. Also only Venetian blinds on the windows which look nice but allow most light in so from 6am the room so bright. So a terrible night sleep which is the basic purpose of a hotel. Staff were sorry about it and said blinds will be installed but take care unless you can sleep with noise and light.

In Antwerp's old heart, where the fashionistas roam, Stands Hotel Julien, a luxurious home! For twenty grand years, it's been charming the socks Off weary travelers, like a comfy old fox. With beds from the heavens, a truly soft dream, Egyptian percale, a silky soft gleam. Down pillows for snuggling, a cloud for your head, You'll drift off to slumber, perfectly fed. Designer delights and art on the wall, Each room has a character, standing up tall. Carrara marble bathrooms, so pristine and bright, With Aesop's fine products, a true pampering sight. So ditch all your worries, and shed all your woes, Hotel Julien's comfort, abundantly flows. It's more than a hotel, a feeling, a mood, In Antwerp's grand city, deliciously good!

Yelp
Terrible management. They don't respect the clients. I have stayed in boutique hotels all over the world and it means that you have to get great and more sophisticated service. This hotel manager needs to be fired immediately since she allows herself unacceptable behavior. I also observed that they put old food from leftovers during breakfast service. This was repulsive and unsanitary. Stay away from it!

Yelp
One of the most beautiful and relaxing hotels in the world. Perfect location and friendly service. The decor is a little rustic, so that may not appeal to everyone.
