50 States, 50 Desserts: America's Favorite Sweet Treats | Condé Nast Traveler

"At Hotel Kansas City I tasted a classic gooey butter cake slice at the breakfast bar—chewy, buttery, and slightly toffee‑like—capturing why Missourians adore this regional dessert." - Arati Menon, Megan Spurrell

Overall, our experience was pleasant. The hotel itself is lovely. The staff was quite nice. We had a great experience getting a drink in the lobby bar and the bartender who served us was awesome. It always amazes me, however, how it is that the higher-end the property, the fewer services a hotel tends to offer and how they try to extract more money from you. For example, the hotel wanted $45 a day for parking, when the lot next door was charging $15 (which we opted for). But the most disappointing experience was when we visited the Nighthawk bar in the basement of the hotel after our very nice dinner at The Town Company. My wife and I ordered cocktails from the posted menu. My choice was a $15 old fashioned. When I ordered it, the bar tender asked me if there was a particular bourbon I would like, which I thought was a nice touch. I made my choice but upon closing the tab, I saw that I was being charged double the posted price. When I inquired why, he informed me that the bourbon I selected (Jefferson's) was an upcharge. I was neither informed beforehand that there would be an upcharge, much less told how much it would be. (By the way, a bottle of Jeffersons costs about $60 max, so it is not a super premium whiskey and certainly should not cost an additional $15 per shot). In any case, I feel taken advantage of and intentionally mislead. Not the kind of experience I expected.

Hotel Kansas City is a beautiful piece of KC history. The preservation of architectural details combined with updated rooms is spot on. Our room was beautiful. The employees were super friendly and attentive. We spent some time in the Lobby bar and it was so fun. Our bartender, John, was fantastic. We had great conversation and learned some very helpful local knowledge. ||The hotel has a phenomenal location - super walkable but also very close to KC light rail that runs point to point for most every place you would want to explore. I highly recommend staying at this iconic landmark hotel.

Location was walking distance to delicious BBQ, unique hotel design so that was very cool. We walked to Ray's Stack which the hotel or maybe it was Yelp recommended. It was a nice walk on a beautiful day. One our second free evening after scheduled meetings we walked down to the local pizza, sandwich place across from the concert hall (all down hill). Anyhoot we appreciated the staff's clear directions on potential places to eat. We also had breakfast and lunch at the hotel and those meals were delightful as well.

Beautifully restored hotel with a great atmosphere. Only one person at the check-in desk with a long slow-moving line started things off poorly for us. But once in our room we were very happy with the quality of the room. They had put out some special treats since I let them know it was our 45th wedding anniversary. The hotel has a great location being within walking distance to any entertainment downtown. We walked to the Kaufman Center to see the ballet after a light dinner at Yard House. However, we were both very uncomfortable with the low-quality mattress that was too thin and hard. We expected something a bit more luxurious at this higher caliber hotel. We both had backaches in the morning.

Hotel Kansas City is a downtown gem that perfectly blends historic charm with modern luxury—making it a standout choice for weddings with lots of out-of-town guests who want everything in one spot. From a photographer’s perspective, this venue offers incredible variety. The rooftop patio is perfect for ceremonies or cocktail hours with sweeping city views and beautiful natural light, while the Tudor Room ballroom delivers stunning architecture, dramatic stained glass, and an atmosphere that feels both grand and intimate. The mix of classic details and spacious layouts means every shot—from candid moments to editorial portraits—comes out effortlessly beautiful. Plus, having accommodations right on site is a huge bonus for couples and guests alike, making the whole wedding day feel seamless. If you want a downtown KC venue that combines convenience, gorgeous backdrops, and timeless elegance, Hotel Kansas City is a fantastic pick.

Hotel Kansas City is an absolute dream. From the moment we arrived, everything felt elevated and intentional. The design and atmosphere are stunning—historic character with modern luxury touches. Traveling with my 165 pound Newfoundland dog, Georgie, can be tricky, but the hotel welcomed us with warmth and ease. Having a rooftop dog park just a few blocks away was such a thoughtful bonus the hotel staff shared with me. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the city, yet still feels like a retreat. Coffee and food on property were exceptional, making mornings effortless and indulgent. Truly a boutique experience that balances charm, comfort, and sophistication. 10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a luxurious stay in Kansas City.

This hotel is beautiful and the location was perfect for our time in Kansas City. The convention center, KC Live and the Arena are all short walks. The staff was very attentive and friendly with the exception of one (multiple times). We stayed 5 days, so we were around the property on and off quite a bit. We knew the room was going to slightly smaller, but the location of the room was odd. It was on the back side of the building, which was quiet, but the room was dark as there was only one small window tucked in the corner behind the television. Valet was always quick and they were very helpful with our bags. One additional oddity was the hotel still charges an in room dining fee when you order from their online ordering site for self pickup.
