A great experience and a very pleasant surprise from a two-star hotel. The hotel is very clean, well-renovated and perfectly located. The rooms we got were somewhat small, but that was compensated with a beautiful view from the balcony. The personnel, and especially the lady at the reception, were very welcoming and helpful. If the bathrooms are renovated, the hotel will fully deserve a third star.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Karthea. We stayed one night before and two nights after a five night stay closer to Loulida. We regretted that we didn’t stay at Hotel Karthea for our entire stay on Kea. The balcony was great for us as we enjoyed watching the port activities. We found it easy to get to Loulida on the bus (€2/pp) or taxi (€10), while our rental car from Avance was (€70/day). Breakfast is good, and there is a wonderful bakery close by. The hosts are gracious.

I recently stayed at The Karthea Hotel and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is well-maintained and offers a pleasant atmosphere. The room was clean, comfortable, and equipped with all the necessary amenities and the bed was cozy. The bathroom was spotless and stocked with good-quality toiletries. The hotel staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to help with a smile. Check-in and check-out were smooth and efficient. Overall, my stay at The Karthea Hotel was very enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and friendly place to stay.

Horrid and terrifying experience. I arrived there with my wife for 2 nights; I am Greek and she is a foreigner. After passing “eye inspection” the person in-charge refused to address us and instead said to the receptionist “tell them to come later”. The wifi was not working and they wouldn’t do anything about it. I even recorded my devices not being able to find wifi in the room and they kept insisting that the wifi is working… i gave up after 2-3 tries unable get a solution. I later discovered the root cause of their behavior. The bedding was disgusting. The bed sheets were worn out, the blanket was smelly (from prior use), and the fact that I had a worn bedsheet to separate me from a public use mattress without any cover made me sleep with my clothes on. The bathroom was old-school from the 70s and the shower curtain made completely impractical the process of showering. The cherry on top… my wife (that is a foreigner, to them) was the recipient of an irrational racist attack from the hotel staff with defamatory and insulting accusations completely unsubstantiated. When confronted to give answers to the claims they backed off! Fortunately I wasn’t to late to intervene and take over the conversation before she realized what their attack was about; she still thinks the issue they brought up was legitimate - gladly for me that she won’t think all Greeks are alike! Unfortunately, they have now put me in a position to pursue litigation for their racist behavior. Completely avoid this place. Doesn’t deserve to be associated with Greece anyhow.

The hotel is well located in the port of Kea. It is very nicely decorated; pleasant, modern rooms, friendly service, excellent breakfast served to order. The hotel is medium sized and has its own parking spot outside reception, It is very close to the row of cafes and restaurants along the port promenade.
