So pleased we chose Hotel Kastanienhof for our recent 5 night stay in Berlin. It's in a great neighborhood, Prenzlauerburg, where there are shops, cafes bars & restaurants aplenty with a tram stop right outside the door which takes you into central Berlin ( Mitte) in no time at all. The hotel is very traditional unlike the big chains you come across, basic, yes, but spotlessly clean with comfortable beds & nice shower & central heating. Staff were all friendly & available if you needed anything. Highly recommended.

Hotel desk staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Hotel room was cleaned daily. The breakfast was excellent as was the restaurant on the lower level. The location afforded us access to all areas of the city. The neighborhood was friendly! Small shops and restaurants close by.

Wúnderbar! The staff drew me maps for where I needed to go. They let me check-in early; allowed me to store suitcases after checkout. The authenticity of the historic connection between the hotel rooms and the neighborhood is one of the reasons my family always tries to stay at Hotel Kastanienhof. The restaurant caps the experience; the spätzle passes even the strictest of standards - delish!

Enjoyed my stay at this hotel! The staff was very nice, the room was big, clean and cosy, and around the hotel there are many restaurants and cafes. Very recommended!

The breakfast buffet was excellent, location is close to tons of great restaurants and shops, staff is very friendly and helpful, and they have lots of bikes to rent out in their courtyard for cheaper than the bike rental places around town. Rooms are super quiet and comfortable. Only downside is there is no air conditioning - one of our nights there was very hot, but other than that we had a great stay.

Great hotel! Nice rooms and very nice breakfast! Great location- tram stop right in front of the hotel and subway stop about 10 minutes away. Nice self-service laundry about 10 minutes away also. Lots of restaurants in the area.

Perfect location. It is located just in front of the tram station, and there are many cool coffee shops and restaurants around this hotel. It's also close to the shopping area, only taking around 10 minutes on foot. The room is really clean and the staff are all very gentle. Lovely decorations with the pictures of Berlin's history.

We had a wonderful stay! They staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the location was excellent (as was the breakfast). They went out of their way to accommodate our family, including our toddler. I hope we will be back!

Yelp
Disappointed as several people had recommended this hotel. The problem was that we were in a room one floor above the back door to the kitchen where staff were in conversation--sometimes with guests-- most evenings and mornings. Given the weather was 90 F for our first days and there was no air conditioning we needed the windows left open. After the second night I couldn't sleep I asked if we could change rooms for the remaining four nights. The woman at the desk who I assume is the owner not only said in an abrupt manner that it was not possible. This is not a small hotel. I find it hard to believe they couldn't change us for at least two non-weekend nights. Though other rooms looked nicer than ours I give the hotel one star for the poor hospitality.

Yelp
This hotel has nice people and a good breakfast. The only problem is there terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE wifi. They have tried to assist, but it is clear that only a few guests at a time could use it. If you need to be on the internet then this is NOT the place to stay. The laundry down the street and coffee shop next door has better wifi. If they just fixed that part of the stay they would have 5 stars.
