ADA Room No. 304
This room is on the ground level and is adjacent to a ramp van parking spot. Overall an excellent room for someone using a wheelchair.
(1) Linoleum floors that are very easy to move on. Though the tile adhesive has failed and needs to be re-done.
(2) Bed is at just the right height for transfers to and from a wheelchair.
(3) Roll-in shower with grab bars and hand-held shower head that has a wall mount. Elevated height toilet with grab bars and a roll-under sink.
(4) Swimming pool is right behind the room and they have a battery powered lift for transferring in and out of the pool. Ask ahead of time because it is normally in storage somewhere.
There were a few things that the hotel could do to improve the accessibility of this room:
(1) Put some non-slip netting between the bed mattress and the platform to keep the mattress from sliding around.
(2) Reposition the bed to be further from one of the side walls. There is only room for a wheelchair on one side of the bed.
(3) Put the bed light switches within reach of someone in the bed.
(4) Level the door threshold, which is difficult to get past.
(5) Re-install the hand-held shower mount so that the shower head can be positioned between 4 ft and 6 ft, rather than between 2 ft and 4 ft. Only 2 ft tall people will benefit from the current arrangement.
(6) Position the shower curtain so that (a) it is inside the shower threshold and (b) has the curtain touching the ground. It was at the threshold and 6 inches above the ground when we arrived, which means the bathroom will be flooded whenever the shower is used. Fortunately the rod is not permanently mounted and I was able to reposition it.
(7) Replace the 17" high toilet with an 18" high toilet. That 1" makes a difference in ease of use.
The room did not have a table or any chairs when we arrived. Probably because it is a pretty small room. The staff had a nice work table and chair in the room within minutes of my asking for them.
The continental breakfast was served in a lounge near the front desk. Good quality fare: Large bowl of freshly prepared berries, greek yogurt (plain and flavored), coffee, tea, juice, coffee cake, cereals, banana bread, croissants, hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit. Drinks and light fare are served later in the day at the same location. We had a dinner salad that was very good.
