Hotel Ketchum (Sun Valley, Idaho) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sun Valley in Idaho is one of America’s great ski destinations, and while the postwar ski boom inspired some forgettably utilitarian architecture, there are some boutique hotels out there proving the point that contemporary design and ski-town coziness don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Hotel Ketchum, on Main Street in downtown Ketchum, is a prime example — a thorough renovation has left its interiors looking bright, sunny, and contemporary, combining modern furniture and a stylish graphic sensibility with classic rustic textures and materials of the traditional mountain lodge." - Tablet Hotels

Lipstick on a pig is what it feels like at this hotel. Our room smells like it used to be a smokers room, there was dried blood on our sheets, and hair in the shower. We’ve been to other renovated motels that have done a great job and have nice products and amenities, this is not one of them. Do not recommend staying here for the price point unless you’re comfortable with a true motel-stay at $400+/night.

Booked a 3 night stay for $778, they charge my card $1000 (I assumed it was a deposit) then ask for another $170 upon arrival, and then charge my card another $200 the following morning. They also sent the cleaners into my room and tried to boot us from our room after 1 night. I don’t think they’re bad people, I think they have really terrible systems and processes for managing the place. Breakfast sucks, and it’s basically just a cheap motel. An enormous scam for booking wedding blocks. Do not do that. Just show up and book online, you’ve save hundreds of dollars and not have to deal with all this stuff. Or stay at one of the resorts down the street. I assume they serve halfway decent food. Also my room key doesn’t work this morning, and no one’s at the front desk, so luckily my wife was there to let me in. Probably the worst hotel experience I’ve had in 10-20 years. No one wants biscuits and gravy for breakfast, serve some bacon or sausage or something.

My husband and I stayed here a few weeks ago and unfortunately ended our trip early. Before booking, just be aware that the walls are extremely thin—you can hear everything from toilets flushing, footsteps above, and even full conversations in nearby rooms. It made it very difficult to relax or get any rest. The photos online are also a bit misleading, as the property feels much more like a motel in person. While the location itself is convenient, that was really the only positive for us. The staff wasn’t particularly welcoming, which added to the disappointment. Additionally, although the hotel is advertised as dog-friendly, the only designated area for pets was a small dirt patch—not ideal for anyone traveling with dogs. Overall, we did not have a great experience and would not choose to stay here again.

Google
This is the only hotel to stay in Ketchum!! This boutique Gem is absolutely stunning and eclectic! With its beautiful historical theme running through the entire hotel and their correspondence - How Ewe you!!! The rooms and amenities are top notch and the staff are the best! Thank you to Jose who is so kind! From the different buildings, to The Hangout, pool, hot tub, the Pasteur and the delicious breakfast, Hotel Ketchum is the only place we will ever stay at and recommend in the future!! Thank you so much for a beautiful stay!

Google
Truly nice staff in a really nice location. Convenient - walkable - to just about everywhere in town and not much of a drive to the slopes. Warm, hot, breakfast included makes Hotel Ketchum an easy, convenient and very pleasant place to stay

Google
Absolutely loved our stay - room was amazing, staff were awesome, breakfast was a lovely bonus, and we took the e-bikes out to the surrounding towns and it was super fun, recommend wholeheartedly

Yelp
This could be Shangri-la and I would still award 0 StarS. Due to unforeseen circumstances (travel companion's daughter died) I was forced to cancel the week long reservation - TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF MY STAY! No refund - no questions. I'm out $2000 and I know they gave the suite to someone else. Booking here is like handing a gun to a toddler and wishing for the best. Absolute BS business practices.

Yelp
Bad experience from the beginning. Front desk attendant eating and had food falling out of his mouth while we were checking in. Room pictures on the their website are not accurate. Hotel was pretty beaten up. Our room had rippled carpet. At 0630 we had a concrete truck outside our bedroom window dragging a piece of metal across the road. It's started SCREECHING which jarred us from sleep. I called down to the front desk only to get "this is corporate". I explained to corporate what was happening and she had a hard time hearing me through the noise. She took my name and phone number and said she would immediately get back to me. Never heard from her again. We quickly packed and left by 0645. The two ladies at the front desk offered nothing. No apology and just said "we had no idea that was happening" and went back to scrolling on their phones. Thought I could grab a cup of coffee from their breakfast upon leaving. Had to go find the kid in the back (on his phone) to ask him for a coffee cup as none was stocked. Yea, just bad all around.

Yelp
What a charming little treasure this hotel is! In the heart of downtown, I can only describe it as "Warm Modern Quirk." The staff is exceptionally friendly, welcoming, responsive and genuinely helpful. The atmosphere is lodgey and warm - we loved The Hangout for a ful American breakfast in the morning, and the outdoor Pasture area with adirondacks and fire pits in the evenings. The rooms are thoroughly, spotlessly clean, with lovely appointments and VERY comfortable beds. We only stayed one night this trip, but we'll be back and stay longer! A wonderful experience in every sense.

Yelp
After a disappointing experience with this hotel, I feel compelled to share my feedback to help other travelers make informed decisions. I booked a premium room for a two-night stay over a prime weekend, starting on Friday. Unfortunately, we had to reschedule our trip at the last minute due to our child falling ill. When I reached out to the hotel to see if we could move the reservation, I was informed that they would not accommodate the request and proceeded to charge the full amount for the room and taxes. This lack of flexibility and understanding during a challenging time was deeply disappointing. I believe that a compassionate and customer-focused approach can make a significant difference in the hospitality industry, especially when unforeseen circumstances arise. As a result of this experience, I would highly recommend against booking anything at this hotel. I hope that by sharing this feedback, other guests can make more informed choices when selecting accommodations for their travels." Sharing your experience can provide valuable insights for other travelers and may also prompt the hotel to re-evaluate their policies and approach to customer service. I hope this review helps, and I wish you the best in finding more accommodating accommodations in the future. Jose is the front desk manager that made this decision and was not helpful!

Yelp
Hits the spot and a little more. Nice people working here, room was as expected - clean and comfy, decor was up our alley. Spent most of Saturday lounging by the pool enjoying ourselves. The breakfast was nothing to miss out on!

Yelp
The room was okay except the fridge wasn't on it's interesting that they don't show any of the pictures that the outside of the building but they talk about how aRT it is well the art consists of a bunch of really badly painted sheep on one wall and it looks like a prison block. The pool that they brag about that spa-like quote on quote has no Jets no real lighting there's nothing spectacular about it I think the biggest key thing is that the only picture they show of the hotel is a weird love seat from a bird's-eye view which I never did see in the front lobby because it wasn't there. It was okay but it was overpriced stayed once not again can't seem to find the fixtures in my phone that I took of it but sorry just imagine a prison wall with sheep painted on it a long time ago. The elevator was also sketchy

Yelp
Need to have greater flexibility with room cleaning. We stayed at the hotel 4 days and were told that "CDC, State, and Local guidelines prevent us from cleaning the role during your stay". This is false, I've read the relevant CDC guidelines for "Employer Information for Hotels, Resorts, and Lodges" where state and local authorities develop their guidelines https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/organizations/hotel-employers.html There was also greater uncertainty around surface transmission in 2020 and the Best Western Plus down the street cleaned our room upon request when we stayed there in 2020. I would entirely understand if the reasoning for not cleaning our room was simply because of low staffing and/or low revenue from a rough few years in hospitality, these are entirely understandable reasons. However, I don't appreciate being lied to. The staff was very helpful in accommodating the hotel's policy by leaving us towels/gifts for our 3 year old which is why I'm giving 2 stars versus 1 (though they forgot to leave toilet paper and we had to finish off the tissue paper). We will take our business elsewhere next year where there is less deception in policy decisions.

Yelp
The original booking At Hotel Ketchum was made 3 months ago for a work trip plus a weekend with my wife. Unfortunately a month before we were to leave, my wife broke her foot. I called Hotel Ketchum to shorten the booking a month before we were due to stay there, to cancel the weekend portion booking. I was rudely told by the Hotel Ketchum staff that there would be no refund given if I shortened the stay. When I asked what could be done, they said that because it was booked via Expedia, I should contact them and ask for Expedia to file for an exception to the refund policy, which I did. Expedia asked for a exception and it was denied by Hotel Ketchum. While staying there, I asked to speak with the manager. I explained the situation that I would not be staying the full time of the booking and could they provide a refund. I was told that this was not possible as the booking was via Expedia and there was a no refund policy. I was rudely told that I must have booked incorrectly and it was my fault for going through a third party like Expedia. The lack of flexibility shown regarding shortening a booking and the terrible customer service was stunning. The shortsightedness of this business practice by Hotel Ketchum over a $250 refund has cost them a return customer. My work takes me to Sun Valley 3 times per year, for 2-3 nights per trip. I will not be spending any of those nights at Hotel Ketchum.

Yelp
Came for Trailing of Sheep festival and so glad this was our hotel. Right on Main Street as a series of buildings, easy to find and parking lot for hotel guests. The Lobby has healthy breakfast in the morning, yogurt, fresh fruit bowl, granola bars, and coffee. The lobby lounge has a beautiful large copper hood fireplace that was always on and toasty and was a really comfy place to sit and enjoy breakfast or catch up on emails. The hotel has an outdoor heated pool and whirlpool, and a courtyard with games, chairs tables heat lamps, etc and a little patio off lobby with an outdoor gas firepit. Lovely! Our room was a double queen balcony that looked out at the gorgeous mountains. Close to walk to restaurants and shops for activities. And note: if you are an Idaho resident they offer discounted rates for part of the year.

Yelp
Poor materials, paper thin walls and floors in a village where boots are worn half the year. Thought bigfoot was above us and bigmouth when he spoke on his phone. Certainly not the brief I viewed online and should have done my homework before paying, thankfully only one night then we exited. Expensive but it was Christmas week, I've had much better experiences in a Hyatt Place, Courtyard, other chains who know their building standards much better. Stay away unless you have no other choice, I'd consider my Ford Explorer before paying $400 a night here - really.

Yelp
When I arrived, I was told the first night of my 2 night prepaid reservation had been cancelled, and they had no idea why. They said I must have screwed up. However, I didn't cancel it and my Expedia account showed that my 2 night reservation was valid. They put me in a room, but said their king fireplace rooms were sold out, so they put me in a different room. When I checked out, I mentioned the problem again. They blamed the problem on some sort of unknown system glitch with Expedia, and that it just happens sometimes. I am not convinced that I was told the truth about what happened.

Yelp
Great place, good price and excellent customer service!!! When we originally checked in there were some issues. I'm glad to say that hotel Ketchum not only made it right they went above and beyond

Yelp
Nicely renovated hotel. We stayed in the Baldy King room which had gorgeous views. The room was clean. Pool and hot tub had plenty of towels, also clean. The breakfast could use much improvement considering we were spending around $250 per night. They had 3 types of cereal, one bowl of fruit that was gone half way through breakfast, bagels, oatmeal (with optional dried cranberries and sugar), granola, yogurt, and cold hard boiled eggs. I'd welcome more fruit, more toppings for the oatmeal, bread, and almond or soy milk. Overall good experience though.

Yelp
Love this hotel! Great for kids and dogs. Always amazing and welcoming staff. Pool, gym, hot tub, plus free breakfast in the game room! Great shops and restaurants like Paddles Up Poké right inside the hotel!

Yelp
Hotel Ketchum is nice, conveniently located and affordable. They are dog friendly and walking distance to everything except the mountain.

Yelp
Please read small print before booking. VERY disreputable business. Booking fee of $149, all charges non-refundable. CCI and hotel staff know the scam and are completely culpable. So sad that such deplorable practices are upheld by hotel management.

Yelp
Beautiful updated hotel that has great character. The rooms are really nice and clean, great pool/spa area open all year round, a small fitness center, and a few eating options. It's really conveniently located in town! Walk to shops in 3 minutes, ski fields and the lodge are less than 10 minute drive. Would highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Staying at the Hotel Ketchum in Ketchum, ID. Paying over $500 per night for a king bed room. With that rate no daily maid service. Staff says it's because of COVID. Yet, for the same or even higher rate, the Limelight Hotel down the street and the Sun Valley Lodge provide daily maid service. Never staying at the Hotel Ketchum again.

Yelp
Great hotel. Super clean and really nice design. Beautiful lobby area. Extremely comfortable bed. Bummer no shower and super limited hot tub hours as the cold weather was bothering my joints but that's not a star docking here. Clean, cool and walking distance to everything!

Yelp
Alert - this is not a hotel. It's is a motel. Your room door opens to the outside ( to the parking lot in fact) which is what differentiates a motel vs a hotel. You won't see any photos of this on their website but attaching one here. But what was truly shocking is that the "remodel" of the motel literally spared every expense imaginable. The floor is so uneven that it literally has mini hills in it. The laminated floor planks are bowing upwards and as you can see from second picture, they ran out of planks and decided NOT to buy more.. The windows are original which means they are single pane. Not a big deal unless you're sleeping above the main road in which case it feels like you're sleeping outside. The list goes on. If I was paying $100 a night for this motel, I'd be satisfied. But for $350 a night for a "hotel", this was an enormous disappointment. Don't make the same mistake. Stay at the Limelight for a tad more. It's a legit hotel

Yelp
The choice of the grooms for a destination wedding and they did a great job in selecting this hotel. You could walk all around Ketchum and enjoy the stores and many restaurants. Our room was spacious and had a balcony overlooking the pool area which gave us a nice perch to watch and view the surrounding landscapes. The bathroom was spacious, nice and had everything you needed for a perfect stay. The staff was very accommodating, professional and made you feel welcome. The breakfast served every morning was locally influenced with a larger selection. Shuttle service to and from the airport was convenient and on time and they would every shuttle you around town, no problem. Also they offered 2:00 hours of usage or an electric Audi at no charge for some exploring. Overall one of the best stays accommodations and service I have experienced in a very long time. I recommend the Limelight/Ketchum if you are in the area.

Dennis M.

Yelp
Great hotel! All the staff was very kind and helpful everything you needed. Super cool place to hang out and relax with a great view of the mountains. Highly recommended!

Yelp
This hotel opened about a year ago and we chose it this time for our skiing adventure in Sun Valley. The rooms, hotel lobby and the Hangout bar are all beautifully designed and well organized. Our room was exceptionally clean, all linens and towels - fresh and brand new. There were a few issues we noted. Our room preferences we shared prior to check-in were not met (upper floor room with a mountain view). We requested a room change, and the service was courteous, apologized and offered a $25 coupon for the inconvenience. Another issue was that the air in the room was too dry and the room was getting cold quickly, so we had to turn on the heater all the time, which made it even worse. The building used to be a motel before remodeling, hence very thin walls that let out the heat (and you hear noise from outside). Overall a great place to stay - we'll definitely come back.

Aubrey S.

Yelp
This hotel was not worth the money. I would recommend staying down the road at the limelight hotel. The limelight offers a much better breakfast and is a much better quality for the money. My rooms air conditioning was broken for two nights and they refused to compensate me for the inconvenience.

Yelp
AC is a little noisy and the shower requires one to enter fully to adjust the water temperature, making for an exciting adventure. Confy beds with ample pillows. The guard sheep are a nice safety feature.

Yelp
Stay here! It's close to all the action, the bar: The Hangout is super cool. Bartender Patrick is rad and contemporary. He and Maureen make amazing cocktails with locally sourced herbs/fruit, blends and syrups. It's the 'everyone knows your name' kind of place. Cozy, warm and fun.

Yelp
ADA Room No. 304 This room is on the ground level and is adjacent to a ramp van parking spot. Overall an excellent room for someone using a wheelchair. (1) Linoleum floors that are very easy to move on. Though the tile adhesive has failed and needs to be re-done. (2) Bed is at just the right height for transfers to and from a wheelchair. (3) Roll-in shower with grab bars and hand-held shower head that has a wall mount. Elevated height toilet with grab bars and a roll-under sink. (4) Swimming pool is right behind the room and they have a battery powered lift for transferring in and out of the pool. Ask ahead of time because it is normally in storage somewhere. There were a few things that the hotel could do to improve the accessibility of this room: (1) Put some non-slip netting between the bed mattress and the platform to keep the mattress from sliding around. (2) Reposition the bed to be further from one of the side walls. There is only room for a wheelchair on one side of the bed. (3) Put the bed light switches within reach of someone in the bed. (4) Level the door threshold, which is difficult to get past. (5) Re-install the hand-held shower mount so that the shower head can be positioned between 4 ft and 6 ft, rather than between 2 ft and 4 ft. Only 2 ft tall people will benefit from the current arrangement. (6) Position the shower curtain so that (a) it is inside the shower threshold and (b) has the curtain touching the ground. It was at the threshold and 6 inches above the ground when we arrived, which means the bathroom will be flooded whenever the shower is used. Fortunately the rod is not permanently mounted and I was able to reposition it. (7) Replace the 17" high toilet with an 18" high toilet. That 1" makes a difference in ease of use. The room did not have a table or any chairs when we arrived. Probably because it is a pretty small room. The staff had a nice work table and chair in the room within minutes of my asking for them. The continental breakfast was served in a lounge near the front desk. Good quality fare: Large bowl of freshly prepared berries, greek yogurt (plain and flavored), coffee, tea, juice, coffee cake, cereals, banana bread, croissants, hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit. Drinks and light fare are served later in the day at the same location. We had a dinner salad that was very good.

Yelp
Perfect place to stay. Friendly staff and excellent value. The rooms were clean and spacious. Made for a great visit to Sun Valley without spending an arm and a leg, you need $$ for all the rest of your trip.

Yelp
We stayed at Hotel Ketchum on our way back to Seattle after having been in cabins at Yellowstone for 5 days so this hotel was a nice way to end our trip! This hotel was clean and super cute! I was obsessed! Whoever decorated the common areas did an amazing job. The breakfast was good, the banana bread and coffee cake was yummy. The pillows were super comfy and I'm trying to look into how to buy one! I wish we had stayed more than one night!
