Hotel Kifu Club Shiretoko

This boutique hotel is good for rest, eat and go. Our room is spacious, clean and simple. Good, delicious dinner and simple breakfast. The thing we enjoyed most was the outdoor private onsen.

Stayed here for 2 nights to visit the gorgeous Shiretoko national park and nearby nature trails. This family-run hotel is nestled along the side of the road, with a spectacular view of the sea. I stayed in the quadruple room which was extremely spacious... even more so for Japanese standards! There is also a lounge area with complimentary tea, coffee and water. ||The breakfast and dinner included with the stay were superb as well. The meals are served in the typical Ryokan style: rice, a variety of dishes and something interesting to tie it all together! The menu changes daily but it typically looks like: day 1: DIY tempura + freshly grilled fish, day 2: steamed pork shabu shabu. However, do note that the ingredients are seasonal so they may vary depending on which month you visit. ||There are two onsens, a public one and a private one. I do believe that the private one requires a booking to be made while at the hotel. The onsen is quaint and simple, for a nice shower and wind down after a long day of adventure. I cannot recommend this place enough, definitely check out this place if you have the chance!

A memorable stay here in terms of service level, hospitality, and comfort. Truly a modern edit of the ryokan experience. Right outside the hotel is an amazing view of the Sea of Okhotsk and several rock formations. The meals are also amazing, highlighting the use of seasonal local ingredients. Impressed that an old couple still work in the day to day operations.

Room is very well equipped and spacious, with comfortable beds and vanity area. It has an amazing sunset sea view, with the shiretoko park beside it. Great dinner and breakfast too. Private onsen (free with one reservation a day) and public onsen are available too. The owners and family kept the place in good and clean condition, which is much appreciated.

Great spot to stay for Shiretoko national park. Staff make you feel welcome and the rooms have an excellent view of the water. Food is sensational.

Lovely homely ryokan/hotel, situated along the ocean. Spectacular views and sunsets. Friendly staff. Fantastic food.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Kifu Club Shiretoko very much. The hotel is very close to the Shiretoko national park and it's a very good base to explore the region over 2 or 3 nights. We stayed 2 nights. The hotel offers nice dinners and breakfast as well as a good onsen facility (not big, not small). The log house we stayed at was unfortunately pretty cold, but AC did the job. However, nothing to be done for the light. As the sun comes up around 3:30/4 AM in late May, many windows didn't have shades and we woke up very early. Other than that, a very solid choice.

I have to admit the photos here and on the hotel's website gave me expectations of something much more modern. Instead, the interior has a mountain lodge/motel vibe mixed with a pinch of traditional ryokan. The hotel feels like it is a family-run affair, with a somewhat inconsistent level of service, with the older staff obviously very experienced but a bit brusque and the younger staff looking a bit nervous (though I'd like to give a shout-out to the sweet elderly gentleman who handed me a lantern and pointed me in the direction of the outdoor private bath). We went with the Japanese style room, which was no frills and had the usual tiny toilet but a fairly spacious room area and a long desk that ran the length of the large picture window that had a clear view of the ocean just across the road. The pillows were, strangely, just nets filled with plastic lumps, which didn't bother me, but if you're fussy about your pillows.... Let me tell you a bit more about the private bath, though. This is important. After I was left standing at the door leading into the pitch-black night, armed with a lantern and a key, I tentatively made my way up a barely lit path and stairway and just went for the first door I encountered. Inside was a small enclosed changing area with a second door leading to the outdoor bath. But here lay the big surprise that I think requires a warning: The shower is out in the open, just jutting straight out from the wall, next to the bath. And while it had hot water, it was still utterly torturous to have to thoroughly clean oneself completely exposed to the elements. It was early June but I was shivering so hard by the end of my shower, I practically dove into the bath. Took a while for the shudders to die down but once they did, had a fairly ok time; was a shame the sky was overcast and a bit drizzly. But it felt like I'd...survived something. Breakfast was delicious, with a tray of assorted little dishes to sample, a fabulous miso soup with some kind of seaweed that tasted like mozuku, as well as a nice large salad. Very satisfying without being too much, first thing in the morning. Overall, an adequately comfortable stay. Bonus: There is a coin laundry a five-min drive from the hotel, which actually has one of those huge dryers that can dry a full load in like 15 minutes, so that was fantastic.
