Stopping here as an American family of six tourists, ages 14 to 70+, what a wonderful way to have ended our day of driving and sightseeing. The hotel is upscale and modern with many comfort amenities, quiet rooms, and gorgeous scenery.
As Americans, we aren't used to needing three rooms and dinner at luxury hotel prices, and we spent the night swinging back and forth between chilly and sweaty due to the lack of air conditioner and effectiveness of the blankets. However, we fully expected these to be the case and had an incredible stay!
The hotel had an elevator for the room and even a wheelchair accessible WC / bathroom in the lobby. The interior had many windows for natural light (when it's there) and views of the South Coast as well as many sitting areas with Iceland photo books to take in the natural beauty from the comfort of a warm, dry seat. The rooms had coffee and tea, safe, mini-fridge, private bath with waterfall shower and handheld sprayer, slippers, towel warmer, and even 100% Icelandic wool throw blanket / shawl to cozy up and relax with a good book.
We know that complimentary breakfasts (like it is here) are not necessarily the norm, so we didn't have any specific expectations, but we were blown away by the quality and quantity of options. Rather than listing everything, I let my pictures show the details, but it ranged from Nordic to British to American to Continental and more. Even as a sugar-loving American, I can't remember ever having carrot cake for breakfast, but it was an option here!
Perhaps the best part of the stay, though, was the brief walk to Systrafloss, the twin sister waterfall where you can climb towards the top or enjoy the view from the sidewalk. Because, of course, there are 3,000 or so waterfalls in Iceland, so why not try to hit them all?!
If needed, there is allegedly a sauna and pool (although we didn't even look for it as we just wanted to sleep by then) and a nearby grocery store. But I did enjoy the chance to show the kids the local team handball court... what an underappreciated sport in the USA!
