Hotel Knyaz Boris I

I arrived at the hotel at 11:30 PM and was surprised to find a strong smell of cigarette smoke and dampness in the room, despite it being designated as non-smoking. I have no idea how that odor had seeped in. After checking in at 23:30, I wanted to go out and find somewhere to eat, but the staff locked the main door and greeted me with frowns whenever I tried to leave or return, asking where I was going at that hour and saying I wouldn’t find anywhere open. The view from my room faced a sex shop. There was no sound or thermal insulation in the room. The towels they provided smelled badly of mildew. The bed was uncomfortable. Overall, the hotel fell far below my expectations. The room rate was BGN 65.70 for one night, and they only accepted cash. I paid 70 BGN and was not given any change. It was one of the worst hotel experiences of my life. Next time, it would make much more sense to pay an extra €10 and stay somewhere else.

The only good thing is the price, the rooms with double beds are very small, you can't put the beds together. The whole hotel smells a lot of tobacco and humidity, even in the rooms where you can't smoke, there are ashtrays. The cleaning is very bad, the bathrooms very bad. It's not a nice hotel. It's like a pension.

Good sleep for the price but don’t expect anything more. Building and interior not being updated for years. Old beds and sheets, no A/C and the room had an unpleasant smell. Also you cannot leave the hotel with the key so you leave your stuff free for someone to go into the room. Didn’t feel safe. Wouldn’t go again.

I have mixed feelings about this place. It was around 3rd time I stayed here. Some things didn't change. Room was clean. Toilet too but could be improved. Since it was an attic room you have to wait for the hot water for some time (that is something I experienced before). Reception lady was nice and welcoming. Some are not so nice. They only accept cash payments and it is possible to upgrade room for an extra fee. Bed is not bad, small though. For me the pillow is what is lacking quality. It is next to a busy boulevard which means that you will hear traffic. Location is within walking distance to the center and both train and bus station. It gives me the creeps to walk around during night. The prices are cheep though. So what you pay is what you get.

Very old furniture, bathroom has a bad smell, they do not want to have babies and children and they were very rude when we came with children, but there is no such remark on the booking page. Door of the room cannot be locked proprely, windows cannot be closed, bed was broken. The worse hotel I have visited in my life.

Not far (10 minutes walk) from train and bus station. The hotel is basic. We stayed in a loft room forth floor no lift. No smoke alarm and no fire extinguisher on our floor. No extracter fan in bathroom and curtains didn't fully cover window in bedroom. Wire coming from light, no wardrobe, no plug for sink, only two towels, one hand one bath. What we had was not what we expected!

The hotel is within easy walking distance to many of Sofia's tourist attractions. There is a market behind the hotel and 2 supermarkets very close. Shower was hot although water takes a long time to get away so floods. Large room and hotel has been refurbished Down side there is a sex shop next door and is on a busy road but there is also good access to transport. Not fancy. I enjoyed being able to walk to the sights
