Very accommodating reception clerks to help you find things to do and see while visiting Sandefjord. FYI: there’s no lift (the hotel was built in the 1600s and has not been retrofitted for an elevator). This hotel is historic and if that’s the vibe you’re looking for, you’ll definitely get it here. 100% cotton sheets on comfortable beds with fluffy duvets. The pillows weren’t great but they were adequate. The rooms are kinda small and do not have space for medium-large suitcases, which is good because I doubt you will want to haul a large/heavy suitcase up the stairs anyway. Climate control in the rooms consists of a window and a small, oscillating fan. There were radiators in the rooms, but we stayed in summer so no heat was needed. The rooms each have a television, a desk area with kettle, tea, and instant coffee available. The Kong Carl also serves a phenomenal breakfast in the dining room and offers afternoon tea/coffee that you can enjoy on the patio in front of the hotel.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Loads of greenery, parks, boats, restaurants, whaling museum, and shopping within walking distance from the hotel. Friendly people everywhere and a great place to visit if you want to relax and escape from an urban lifestyle.
