Krafft Basel, a Design Boutique Hotel Basel, Switzerland

"The Krafft Basel hotel and restaurant can be found in the heart of the city, right on the bank of the Rhine river with its Mediterranean-style promenade. Laptops with wireless internet access and printers are available for free. The view of the historical scenery on the other side of the river is breathtaking - be it from the restaurant or the terrace overlooking the lively river promenade. You will get the mobility ticket for free use of all public transport in town during your stay. The Krafft is a classical building with a famous past. For example Hermann Hesse used to stay here writing most of its well-known novel “Der Steppenwolf”. Your hotel booking confirmation is also the ticket for the public transfer from the airport or train station to the hotel. Hotel guests are entitled to a 25% discount at the Rebgasse public car park." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

"How’s this for a literary pedigree: Hesse began Steppenwolf here in the mid-Twenties; room 4.1, to be precise. This building has operated continuously as a hotel since 1873, when Ernst Krafft (its first owner) lent his surname. Any way you look at it, Hotel Krafft Basel doesn’t pull its historical punches — quite fitting for a Kleinbasel heavyweight, just across the Rhine from Altstadt’s ceremonious, half-timbered façades, and firmly ensconced in the neighborhood’s walkable, lively streets. Indeed, the renowned Mittlere Brücke (“middle bridge”) straddles the even more renowned river right outside the front door." - Tablet Hotels

We visited back in April and it was the ideal hotel, the service was great and the river facing rooms were large and comfortable. The location was great, sitting right on the river surrounded by restaurants and bars. I’d happily stay here again.

We stayed here our last night on a twelve day trip. It was a perfect ending! We floated the Rhine with the locals all day and ate at local restaurants and got Gelato twice! The room was huge and even had a disco room! Highly recommend!

Great looking hotel with everything you need, but way too loud. We had the room with the view on Rheingasse not the River. Even on the second floor it sounds like people are standing in your room. The windows have zero sound isolation and people were partying till 2am in the morning and Construction began at 7am. But even without construction the normal city noise at 6am woke me up already. You can hear every word of people passing. Ontop there is no way to darken the room the curtains do absolutely nothing. In itself a nice Hotel but i can go to nice places for atmosphere during the day, but if I book a Hotel I expect to sleep well and it was impossible to do here. I couldve slept better in my car in the parking lot. Breakfast was impeccable and service on point. Rooms were clean and you could get bathroom utensils like toothbrush/paste etc on the hallway same with coffee and tea. Please install good windows and invest in something to actually darken the room.

I only visited the rooftop terrace, and it was absolutely lovely — great view and atmosphere. What really stood out was the service. Cyrill was the best waiter I’ve ever had! Super friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. A true professional who made us feel welcome from the start. Highly recommend!

Great storied hotel on the banks of the Rhine river. Among others, Hermann Hesse (1877-1962) stayed in this hotel. Beautiful rooms and interiors. Great breakfast and lovely restaurant. Make sure to get a room overlooking the Rhine river. Fantastic views of old Basel including the Münster. Centrally located in close proximity to many museums and other attractions.

Absolutely loved my stay at this cozy and welcoming hotel! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and everything is thoughtfully arranged to make guests feel at home. What really stood out was the incredibly friendly and helpful staff—always ready to assist with a smile and genuinely make your experience better. A special mention goes to the coffee machines and tea stations available on each floor—such a thoughtful touch! Having a fresh cup of coffee or tea just steps away from your room made mornings and evenings even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for comfort, great service, and little details that make a big difference! 🙂

A gorgeous old building in a wonderful location. The service from the staff was top notch. The old wooden floors are hilariously creaky but that is to be expected in a heritage listed building. The access to the rest of Basel is a big plus.

I have spent one night at the hotel Krafft while I was interviewing for a job. Location: Right in the heart of Basel, close to the Congress center and Rhine. The view on the river is beautiful, and you can enjoy the sunset. From the hotel everything is in walking distance, but tram stations are close. Restaurant: The restaurant provides excellent food. Everything is fresh and quality of ingredients is high. Breakfast: The breakfast includes a great variety of options. If you have special requests (e.g.boiled eggs ) the personnel will be happy to help. There is also gluten free options. Rooms: The rooms are nice. They are rather small but for my stay it was enough. One thing worth to know is that there is no AC due to it being a historic building. It can get pretty hot in summer. Atmosphere: It is a very beautiful hotel with a traditional European Flair. If you prefer luxury hotels this might not be for you but if you appreciate a typical Swiss place, this hotel is a great place to stay.
