Iceland’s South Coast Is Perfect for First-time Visitors — How to See the Blue Lagoon, Waterfalls, and More in 5 Days

"The 73-room hotel has a stunning location just a 10-minute walk to Víkurfjara black-sand beach, where the shore could’ve been made of Oreo pie crust and jagged rock formations almost lure you out to the dangerous water." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Hotel Kría is conveniently located along the main road through Vík, with adjacent parking — though unfortunately at the far end of the building, requiring a full walk to the main entrance and small concierge area. The lobby is modest, with a bar to the left and a large dining space beyond. Close to shops and dining area ie 10 minutes walks across the roundabout. ||We stayed in ground floor room 121. The design was minimalistic to the point of feeling bare: textured wallpaper, laminated wood floors, and no decorations on the walls. The open clothes rack, glass bathroom door, and lack of sound insulation compromised privacy. Furnishings included a blue armchair, a grey desk chair, and a Nespresso machine — though oddly, no proper glasses for water, only bathroom tumblers better suited for toiletries.||The bathroom featured faux concrete and faux marble finishes. Functionally adequate, but acoustically exposed due to the sliding glass door.||On the plus side, the room was warm, quiet, and well-insulated. There’s a lovely view of the surrounding hills, and a private door opens to a wooden platform outside, which adds a nice touch of nature.||Some cuffs on the wall, chipped wood of table with wear and tear! |The bed was reasonably comfortable, though let down by practical oversights: no power socket by the bedside, only one pillow and cushion, and the room became uncomfortably hot overnight (opening the door would have helped). The back out curtains was not long enough so light came through at sides and bottom. ||Breakfast was a disappointment. The buffet offered poor coffee, a lacklustre cooked selection (dry sausage, mediocre eggs, average bacon), though the fruit was fresh and the cold cuts passable.||Checkout was fast and efficient, but overall, the stay didn’t live up to the price point. It’s a functional stopover hotel with beautiful surroundings, but limited charm or comfort for the cost.

Nice convenient hotel in the middle of town. Good breakfast, walking distance to everything including a black sand beach and game room on the second floor is a nice touch! Rooms are small but adequate and showers were hot. Bartender makes great and interesting drinks!

We enjoyed our stay. The room had a comfy bed and was quiet. The location was close enough to ealk to the grocery store and resturants. The hotel had modern decor and the shower was on the small side for the size of the room. Parking was good and included in the rate.

Our stay 1st to 3rd may 2025||We liked the very contemporary architecture of your hotel. The comfort of room 119 , we would have liked to have a bathrobe, too bad that the faucet is not quality , it does not reflect the whole hotel. ||We liked what we ate at your restaurant ( main dish of cod very well prepared and dessert ), the kindness and dynamism of the black-haired waitress, very professional. ||The other very nice waitress also seemed to lack experience.||The staff at the reception seemed distant, a little cold, too bad. ||Perhaps because of their youth.||But don’t be afraid, this is a great hotel that we will enjoy frequenting again.

We had a wonderful experience on our one-night stay with our tour group at Hotel Kria. The location was perfect for hunting the Northern Lights. The quaint town of Vik is so remote, that the skies are dark enough to view them. It is just a short walk to a black sand beach to get away from city lights. Our room was very nice and nicely appointed. I loved having a full shower! The room was a little warm when we first arrived, but I opened the door and it made a big difference! The thermostat is located in the bathroom, which was a little unusual, but we were able to adjust it and the room was comfortable for sleeping. The restaurant has an amazing view, and the breakfast buffet was great. Everything was fresh and delicious. Their Happy Hour was also the most reasonably priced that we encountered in Iceland. We were very happy with our stay at the Hotel Kria.

This was a wonderful hotel! |Our room had a beautiful view of the hills behind the hotel. And you also get this view from the dining room. The free breakfast is varied and includes cooked options, skyr, cereals, fruit, bread, pastries etc -all delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. Free parking. Comfortable beds. Tea and coffee in room. Ideally situated for restaurants etc in Vik and good location for driving to attractions such as Reynisfjara, Dyrholaey, Skogafoss, Selljandafoss etc.
