This is a wonderful, charming hotel with fantastic facilities and great service. Highly recommend the interconnecting rooms, they are huge with new beds and came with a cot and one room had a bath and special amenities for kids. Loved the free guest laundry and kid friendly restaurant. Staff were so accommodating and lovely. (We had a vomit issue on the drive up) and they were waiting with towels. Great location from everything. Highly recommend.

Stayed 2 nights here. Reception was very welcoming and helpful. Rooms were nice and cosy with stylish bathrooms. It also got a bar with a restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food was great but the drinks not so much to my liking. Nice seating area out in the garden or inside area opening to garden. Will definitely stay here next time too!

This is a lovely colonial-style hotel. Our room was well-appointed and tastefully decorated. The walls are thin, and we could hear people coming and going, but nothing too severe. The staff were okay. We used the bar in the evenings, and although the sign said the kitchen closes at 9 pm, we were told at 8:40 pm that the kitchen was closed. The gym wasn't cleaned for the two days we were there with no towels in the basket. The hotel is in a good location, with easy walks to Manuka and Kingston.

The Kurrajong Hotel is not only a charming place to stay but also an excellent starting point for exploring Canberra. Whether you’re interested in politics, art, history, or simply enjoying the beautiful surroundings, there’s something for everyone within walking distance.||||During my recent visit to Canberra, I had the pleasure of staying at the historic Kurrajong Hotel. Steeped in history and charm, this hotel offers a unique blend of old-world elegance and modern comfort, making it an ideal base for exploring the nation’s capital.||||The Kurrajong Hotel, located on National Circuit in Barton, is a beautifully restored heritage-listed building that originally opened its doors in 1926. The hotel boasts an impressive Art Deco design, with elegant interiors that reflect the sophistication of its early 20th-century origins. Notably, the hotel has played host to numerous politicians and dignitaries over the years, including Prime Minister Ben Chifley, who made the hotel his home during his time in office.||||The rooms at the Kurrajong Hotel are nothing short of excellent. They are spacious and exude an old-world charm, beautifully complemented by modern amenities. The large, modern bathrooms are a particular highlight, offering both luxury and comfort. One of the aspects I appreciated most was the straightforward lighting system—no need to spend half an hour figuring out how to turn the lights on and off. The rooms provide a cosy yet luxurious atmosphere, making for a truly comfortable stay.||||The dining experience at the Kurrajong Hotel is equally impressive. The food is excellent, with a menu that caters to a variety of tastes and preferences. The dining room itself is beautifully designed, offering a sophisticated yet relaxed ambiance. The service is very efficient and friendly, adding to the overall enjoyable dining experience.||||Highly recommend the Prime Minister's Breakfast and the Seafood Platter.||||For those who love shopping, Canberra offers a delightful array of experiences within walking distance of the Kurrajong Hotel. One particular highlight is the Manuka shopping precinct, known for its boutique stores, gourmet food shops, and vibrant cafes. Just a short stroll from the hotel, Manuka is perfect for a leisurely afternoon of browsing unique fashion, homewares, and specialty items. The area also features a range of dining options, from chic cafes to fine dining restaurants, making it an excellent spot to relax and enjoy a meal after a day of shopping. Whether you’re looking for stylish clothing, artisanal foods, or simply a charming place to wander, Manuka provides a wonderful shopping experience that captures the lively spirit of Canberra.||||For those who enjoy a touch of French elegance, Manuka offers a delightful experience at French Flair La Boutique. This charming store brings the essence of France to Canberra with its curated selection of French-inspired homewares, fashion, and gifts. The boutique features an array of beautifully crafted items, from exquisite linens and tableware to chic accessories and unique décor pieces. It’s the perfect place to find a special gift or add a touch of French sophistication to your home. Whether you’re a Francophile or simply appreciate fine craftsmanship, French Flair La Boutique is a must-visit spot in Manuka.||||Staying at the Kurrajong Hotel puts you within easy reach of many of Canberra’s top attractions. Here are some must-see spots that are just a short stroll away:||||Parliament House: A visit to Canberra wouldn’t be complete without seeing the iconic Parliament House. Just a 15-minute walk from the hotel, you can explore the heart of Australia’s political life, take guided tours, and enjoy stunning views from the roof.||||National Gallery of Australia: Approximately a 20-minute walk from the hotel, the National Gallery of Australia houses an impressive collection of Australian and international art. It’s a peaceful spot to explore Australia’s literary and cultural heritage.||||Kurrajong Hotel Quirky Insights:||||Ben Chifley’s Legacy: One of the quirkiest aspects of the Kurrajong Hotel is its connection to Prime Minister Ben Chifley. Guests can learn about his life and contributions through various displays and memorabilia scattered throughout the hotel.||||Ghostly Tales: The Kurrajong Hotel is also famous for its ghost stories. Some guests and staff have reported sightings of a spectral figure believed to be Ben Chifley himself, wandering the halls late at night. During my stay at this historic gem in Canberra, the echoes of its rich past resonated throughout. From the intricate hand-carved mantel to the vintage photographs adorning the walls, the hotel seamlessly weaves together history and modernity. The Art Deco allure blends effortlessly with contemporary comforts, all complemented by impeccable service. It's a place to work, unwind in bespoke furniture, pamper yourself, and immerse in the essence of the nation's capital. Waking up to birdsong and picturesque views of the manicured garden or staying in a heritage room dating back to when Parliament House was just a paddock adds a unique charm.

One night at the Kurrajong was nowhere near enough and we really hope to return. We had a comfortable, beautifully presented and tastefully decorated King Room. Put simply everything about The Hotel Kurrajong was faultless. We loved our short stay in this beautiful piece of Australian Heritage and History.

This iconic heritage hotel employs friendly, helpful and professional staff who made us feel welcome and comfortable right away. The location is wonderfully quiet outside of business hours and Parliamentary sitting days. Parking our car on site was easy. The room was small but completely adequate with some heritage features, nice, very clean with new furnishings, quality linen and modern bathroom. The best features of this beautiful old hotel are the heritage features that give this building so much character, the lounge, courtyard gardens, and restaurant/bar area with many different seating areas. I liked the glass enclosed veranda for having our breakfast as it had a view of the beautiful gardens. This hotel has excellent menu options. All our meals were well presented and prepared. A perfect place for a rest and as a base to see the best Canberra has to offer.

Lovely location but substandard food and kitchen staff. Staff at reception pleasant and helpful. Kitchen and bar staff unhelpful, annoyed and dished up luke warm / cold food. Great location steeped in history. Rooms are comfortable clean and well maintained.

Yelp
It's amazing how an amazing stay can be ruined by staff who cannot think outside the box. Check in was great, an amazing room, the bed and pillows were fantastic. Great guy playing guitar 4:30pm in the courtyard and the outdoor bar guy was fantastic. Then just as I'm about to provide a five star review I went inside to the terrace and ordered garlic bread and a main size of chilli prawns. A simple request of can I have the garlic bread first and the mains ten or so minutes later. At this point I was told by the bar staff in Chifleys that they cannot do that as it's too hard for terrace customers. I saw 4 customers in the terrace and most had left the courtyard, so it was not busy. I ordered and said surely you can accommodate my simple request, only to be served both dishes simultaneously and as such I sent them back. I asked to see the duty manager and he explained the policy which I think is ridiculous especially in a venue that charges $15 for a pint of craft beer. I decided to have dinner as room service and as long as the items came as ordered I'd accept them. Thankfully the garlic bread was great and so were the chilli prawns. The duty manager saved the review from being a 3 but I still believe staff need to be able to be innovative and accommodate reasonable requests from customers. It's not McDonalds it's a restaurant in a competitive precinct.
