To start with the positive, the hotel is in an excellent location. It was very convenient and there were many neighborhoods, shops and restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were also clean, and the building is beautiful. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was pretty mediocre to bad. Some specific details from our experience: ||* Reservations - We made a reservation for a package that included hotel credit, airport transfers etc. but they somehow lost the record, and it took literally 70+ emails to get the transfers, and we never got the hotel credit that was supposed to be included. Our perception was that it wasn't intentional; there just wasn't anyone who had any vested interest in solving the problem. ||* Spa - They might say they have a spa, but it's a single room in the corner of the gym. The walls are all glass, and they draw a curtain during treatments, but it will not feel private especially if someone is working out. The gym itself is tiny. ||* Bar - There looked like there was a spiral staircase going down from lobby that might be the bar. It wasn't. It turns out that the lobby restaurant is basically the "bar." This means that when you get hotel credit, you can basically only use it for the restaurant. It looked like they might sometimes have an open air bar on the top floor but it was closed when we were there. ||* Morning baked treat - they make a big deal out of house-made complimentary treats and coffee on each floor in the morning, but the coffee is bad, and the baked goods are a little palmier cookie - you'll still need breakfast. ||* Noise - we were given what they clearly thought of as a nicer room facing the inner courtyard. Unfortunately, the lobby floor plays music pretty loudly all day until 10-10:30pm, which would probably not be as big of a problem if the windows were sealed properly (they aren't which means noise is leaky and you can even hear staff conversations). My sister had a room facing outside, and she was told it would be quiet, but there is an outside night club near the hotel, and they play thumping music til early morning. If you are staying here, consider bringing a portable white noise machine. ||* Light - The walls facing the inner courtyard are all glass. The curtains are not blackout curtains, and the bathroom obviously has no curtains at al. That means that you have some light in your bedroom at night and bright light into the bathroom at all hours. If you are staying here, I recommend bringing eye masks. ||* Water - I have never been to a hotel in Mexico, Carribean or other Central and South American countries at any price point where they do not provide water freely. At this hotel, each person gets one small fancy bottle a day, which is not enough considering that the general recommendation is to use bottled/filtered water for even tooth brushing. They provide filtered water in a carafe in the lobby, but if you want that, you have to go downstairs and pour yourself a glass. Buying bottles of water is easy, but it's such a small thing they could take care of. ||* Housekeeping - One day we came back to the room literally to find that they put wet pillowcases on our pillows. ||Overall our impression was of a beautiful hotel managed by people that don't know anything about hotel management. Incidents like our experience with housekeeping and reservations made us wonder how good of an employer they are.
