La Citadelle

"With the 2006 opening of La Citadelle, Metz, maybe the most confidential major city in France, finally has the superb new hotel that will turn it into a popular destination. The French turn up their noses at an eastern town that’s traditionally had military connotations, but they’re wrong—Metz is a charmer, with a gorgeous cathedral, one of the best museums in France, a great market, and a lot of night life. As its name tells, the eighty room La Citadelle occupies a thick-walled former military arsenal and barracks in a beautiful park right in the heart of the city. The original architecture, including the barrel-vaulted basement that runs the length of the building, has been intelligently retained, while the spacious rooms upstairs have a sleek contemporary look with vivid jewel tone decors, great lighting, and large beds with wooden headboards. Large plasma-screen televisions, air-conditioning and large well-lit baths make this place very comfortable, and the friendly young staff create a cheerful atmosphere. Too bad the restaurant is so expensive, but they’re lots of other good places to eat in the city, many of which serve the region’s signature quiche Lorraine."

We took junior suite and well it may sound expebsive but honestly i dont think its worth here iswhy. A) we keep getting hurt with the wooden stool based in front of bed. Usually we have something which is of leather or soft material with soft edges but this is not equal to bed size, it is longer. B) ac dont work not sure why there is a thermostat in the room lucky it had windows so we opened for the entire night to get some fresh air if not we be bbq inside. C) no modern powerpoints. And plugs are under the side table. So if you were to plug in and lift ur head you can get hurt. D) the lighting controller based on top of sofa, it does not bother me much but safety hmmm can get hot and sofa can catch fire? E) car park charges is 18 euros hmmm standard but there should be some discount for those that are gold or platinum members F) breakfast: hmm not really worth it usually we eat lot for breakfast but this time around felt its boring and not much variety. G) the accessories - lotion hand-soap is of high standard and the hotels sell them for decent price. They are good really good. Bathroom: Omg really hmmm so poor the water changes temp even if you keep mid between hot and cold it becomes super hot and th suddenly chilled. Cramped for suite😨🤷 Look overall it is ok place but to be improved radically for m gallery. It does not have that reputation. If you were to compare ton Hungary Budapest they are heaps better.

We stayed here for a quick stopover on our way home. Luckily we arrived in time and snatched one of the last parking spots. The hotel is walking distance to the city center and is next to a park. Check in was fast and the receptionist was nice. The lobby is modern but feels more like a fancy bus terminal with guests sleeping on the sofa. The restaurant was nicely decorated, the room not so much. The bed was uncomfortable, made up with two mattresses and the bedside tables were placed kind of far from the bed. The room had a lovely view of the park.

We are regular visitors, with this being a convenient place to stop on our trips between our homes in the UK and Italy. But on this occasion we found the lighting in our room to be gloomy and couldn't adjust the temperature at all, so it was a bit too cold for us. But the room services was excellent.

Nice hotel, quiet location. Good to have an inner door to shut out corridor noise. Bed was twins made into King which made the bedside fixed table and light switches hard to reach. Shower was overhead only which I dislike and the hot water ran out in shower and sink.

Excellent location for a quality hotel. Superb staff. Car park is difficult with not very wide bays and full from late afternoon onwards.|No bar or outside seating unless you are using the restaurant whose menu is expensive and limited. No sky or bbc on tv but they do have Al Jazeera!

Perfect place to visit Metz. We stayed for one night with 4 persons having 2 rooms with a connecting door. Clean rooms, friendly staff and good breakfast.

A former military stronghold from 1558, this is an amazing hotel located 5 minutes from the historic town center. My room was huge and nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed. Nice views to the park across from the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Nicola was especially helpful and even gave me a short history of the town. One of the most unique hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The rooms are impeccably clean and very reasonably priced. Quiet and peaceful. Highly recommended.

Service is great, rooms were clean although a little austere. Definitely staying in a dressed up former military building. Great history
