Old? Yes. A little run down? Yes. Charming? Absolutely. We were visiting Taos for the first time and decided the only place worth staying would be on the square, so the Hotel La Fonda was the place for us. We chose our room, not realizing that because of the age of the hotel and the way it is structured, being on the 3rd floor would mean going down several stairs, and then up some more (the elevator only goes the the 2nd floor). After we saw that, we knew we couldn't handle that many stairs at our age, so I asked the owner, Mr. Sheldon, if he could help. He graciously put us in a room on the 2nd floor that turned out to be a 2-bedroom suite, and would not allow me to pay the additional cost for the bigger room. He was friendly, helpful and went out of his way to accommodate us, no matter what he was busy doing. The Hotel La Fonda is definitely not super fancy - the floors creak, the paint needs some touching up, the bathrooms could do with some renovation - but the location is awesome and the people who work there are terrific. And it has character, which made it even better. (Don't forget to ask Mr. Sheldon to let you see the hidden DH Lawrence paintings and have a nice cup of coffee in the little cafe attached to the hotel).

I've had the pleasure of staying at this hotel three times now. The location is exceptional, with clean and comfortable accommodations. The hotel services are fantastic and the price is reasonable for the area. Since my last visit, they've added a standalone restaurant, which serves good quality food, though the service lacked hospitality. The hotel previously only had a cafe, which still serves an excellent breakfast. I believe it's unfair to rate the restaurant and hotel together. |During our stay, the hotel hosted a small art fair, providing a wonderful opportunity to meet local artists.

Perfect location as we could walk everywhere! Wonderful lounge on the second floor for gathering our friends and family. Met so many interesting people from all over. Very friendly and the staff was accommodating to our various needs. Rustic 200 year-old charm and clean! Our group was very happy with our stay and I hope to return there soon.

Google
I would not recommend staying here—especially if you have children. If I were you or had family with little ones, I would avoid this place entirely. During our stay, we witnessed homeless individuals—including young teens and women—using the public restrooms unsupervised and even engaging in suspected drug use inside them. This used to be a place we loved, mainly because of how conveniently it’s located near the town square. Sadly, it no longer feels safe or family-friendly, and we will not be returning.

Google
Great hotel in an old historic building. Rooms and bathrooms were reasonably sized despite the building constraints. Plenty of parking in back, unloading and loading was easy. Mattress could have been a little newer, but it comes with the age. Loved the general space with the nice fireplace and the game boards. Very easy to walk to a lot of restaurants and things to see. Big, big thank you to the night guy, who helped us jump our truck when the battery died on the way out, even though he was off duty and just passing by. Saved us a few hours of dealing with AAA.

Google
This is the perfect hotel for a stay in Taos. It is located right on the Plaza with parking in the rear (a great amenity!) It is historical and feels very special but also has modern amenities, an excellent bathroom and shower, comfortable bed, TV, refrigerator, everything we needed. The front desk staff is friendly for a chat and helpful for any need or questions.

Google
Didn’t stay here but just wandered through, as the hotel is a commanding presence on the Taos Plaza. Oldest hotel in New Mexico, I believe, done in that classic Pueblo style; lots of big hand-hewn exposed wood beams inside, with lovely plaster and tile detail. Pretty good art collection too, and just a very cool building to check out if you’re in the area.

Google
What a gorgeous and historical hotel! Spectacularly set on the old town plaza, the hotel is within walking distance of many shops, bars, and restaurants. They hosted local vendors in the lobby on Saturday, which was really fun. There is a coffee shop in front, so breakfast is fast and easy for getting out skiing early, and a bar and a restaurant that is open in evenings on site. The rooms are small, as you would expect for this old of an establishment, but are charming and fully functional. There is not a pool.

Yelp
Cute place, room was a bit small, it worked well for us. It's really quirky, and full of history. Location was perfect, walking distance to everything we wanted to see.

Yelp
Convenient, central location. NOT CLEAN! Leaves and grit on stairs. We had to lug our bags up 2 flights of stairs to our room. Room clean but couldn't bathe. No had rails in tub, no non slip mat...dangerous!!!!! Had to sponge bathe!! Sort of like camping but in a room. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Cozy, cute, romantic and you can feel the 200+ year history. I'm glad the restaurant is finally open.

Yelp
I'm giving one star because even though I spoke to the front desk (in person) the evening before we checked out when I discovered there was a problem with a clogged sink in our bathroom (see the photo), nothing was done about it nor did we hear from management. Upon check out, the front desk acknowledged that she received the message and had already let maintenance know. However, we were already in order to check out so she called someone to help us with our luggage which was the only good thing that occurred during our stay here and we tipped the young man (Jorge?) very well for helping us with our bags as my BF fell ill and was very weak. We stayed here three nights and it was OK other than this incident of the disgusting clogged sink because of a huge hairball that had what looked like bile in it plus there was a dental floss pick on the floor indicating no one vacuumed before we checked in AND there was a dead fly squashed in the bathroom door jam. I mentioned all these things to the front desk who said he would pass it along and I truly believe he did. I told him I would rather rectify the situation before I posted a negative review on social media but that was almost two months ago and we have heard nothing from management and were charged full price for the room. I understand this is a 220 year old hotel (it is NOT affiliated with LaFonda of Santa Fe) and sometimes check systems fail but unfortunately, the sheer disregard by management has soured us and we will never stay here again. Finally, the location is not all its cracked up to be. All the businesses in the square close super early (by 8pm) and even finding a restaurant open for dinner at 7:30pm is a challenge. The sidewalks are crumbling in Taos and it is not well lit at all. The backside of the hotel is eerie so we had a rough night walking to a nearby restaurant and back. Also there was a lot of road construction near the hotel and traffic was a nightmare.

Yelp
Stayed here over Labor Day weekend. USD 250 per night. Water leaking through the ceiling and had been leaking in a number of other locations in the room. When I checked out I was told "we have had some HVAC work done and some of the rooms have had problems." They knew about it when we checked in, gave us a problem room and the attitude was "oh well". Not even an apology. Definitely not going back there.

Lourdes S.

Yelp
This was our first time in Taos and we stayed in La Fonda Inn. Great location its right in the main town square where are several shops and choices for great restaurants. Omar greeted helped check us in, he was very nice and helpful with recommendations of things to do and restaurants to visit. He provided a map and directions pointing out landmarks that would be helpful to know we are in the right area. His recommendations were spot on and made our first visit to Taos memorable. We'll definitely return.

Yelp
Love, love, love this hotel! My fiancé and I stayed 5 nights in late July. Delightful in every way. Friendly, helpful staff. Room was charming. Love the history. Fascinated by the "forbidden" D. H. Lawrence paintings. Don't get the postings about noise; we didn't hear a thing (though we WERE in a room in the back.) It wasn't hot in Taos, even in late summer, so their swamp cooler on the roof, an open window, and a ceiling fan made the room quite comfortable. The location is ideal; you can walk to practically everything. And we got a great rate through hotels.com. Lovely.

Lori B.

Yelp
We checked in due to deciding not to stay in a local chain hotel that had terrible customer service. This hotel is historical, has great customer service and beautiful artwork to view. They also house A room with banned art from Europe. We were only there for a night, but enjoyed our stay. Their restaurant is closed for renovations but there is a coffee place adjacent to the hotel.

Yelp
Clean room, but not soundproof at all. The neighboring room was extremely noisy and the walls appeared paper thin.
google avatar

Abigail B.

Yelp
Cute historic hotel. But thin walls and needs some structural updates. Basic cable. Nice staff and comfortable beds :)

Yelp
This is a cool historic spot, but you do not get what you pay for. Over 180, the room is small which is fine, but no fridge. Due to COVID they have to give you ice personally..... On my way down to get ice I saw the front desk lady and she told me the owner would be around the front desk and that maybe he would get me ice. I got to the front desk where the owner was sitting down and said she would be right back, meaning the front desk lady... why the owner of the establishment could not get me ice is a conundrum.

Pat K.

Yelp
Make it stop!! Nice staff, clean rooms-but the air system is horrid. My choice is aggressive air blowing on me or closing the vent and listening to maddening air trying to escape, A disturbing dilemma because I want to love this historic hotel, Comfortable sleep will not be possible.

Yelp
Just checked in today and arrived to the sound of jackhammers pounding away in front of our hotel... Asked desk about how long it goes on and they said ohhh ...only until 5 pm or so ! Great huh? Made a special trip up here from Santa Fe and our worst nightmare realized. Good news is they have supplied us with earplugs...You can't make this stuff up right? If you have booked this place recently make sure and call hotel about all the construction!!! On top of that it's $6 to park in an open gravel lot. Stayed 1 night and left to jack hammers pounding away at 830 am. One of our worst travel experiences...

Yelp
We did not actually stay at this hotel, but went in to see some art actually. If you go inside the La Fonda Hotel, located in the middle of downtown, you can pay $3 to enter the conference room and see art by the famous artist, D.H. Lawrence. This is not your average art gallery! When you go inside, they have to actually unveil the art from behind a curtain, and you must be of mature age to see it, because this art was banned from London. You have to do this while in Taos, as it is a once in a life time experience. For more on what to do in Taos, check out our blog. https://kasventures.org/2019/09/04/taos-new-mexico-your-next-favorite-destination/

Yelp
We just walked through the beautiful lobby, gazed at featured artwork, carvings and architecture. A historic hotel with counterpart in Santa Fe.

Yelp
Charming historic hotel. Excellent location in the heart of the Taos Plaza which is the heart of Taos. Very friendly staff. Rooms are small but charming. Walking distance to everything with good parking (which can be a challenge). Being in the center of everything it can get noisy. If looking for peace and quiet in your hotel stay this may not be it-but we really enjoyed our 2 night stay

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant, only. We wandered in, a few days before Christmas, for a quick lunch, before shopping for last minute gifts. There was a buffet going during lunch, but we chose to order off the menu. (In retrospect, I think I would have been happier with the choices on the buffet.) Jeff ordered the green chile cheeseburger. It came with fries. Deb ordered a chicken quesadilla. I ordered the spinach salad, with the intention of splitting the burger with Jeff. I tried a piece of the quesadilla. The tortilla was perfectly crispy. The chicken was shredded, which actually surprised me. I typically see restaurants put in chunks of grilled chicken. I prefer the shredded chicken. I wasn't blown away by the quesadilla. I think they needed a better cheese. My spinach salad had cranberries, roasted garlic, sliced cherry tomatoes and little cubes of something white. It might have been hearts of palm but it could have been cheese. It was super indistinct and didn't add much to the salad. The spinach was fresh and the dressing was light and tasty. The salad was chintzy for the price. Jeff's burger was well-seasoned. I thought it was tasty and the green chile was a great complement. The cheddar cheese was perfectly melted. The fries were fine, if a little lukewarm. The bun on the burger got a little soggy, but not terribly so. I would order the burger again. Deb looked at the buffet and wished that she had gotten it because of the variety. There was a gentleman behind the buffet who would open the covers to the chafing dishes, so that you could look inside. I appreciate that kind of buffet, as the food tends to stay hotter that way. I saw that most people in the restaurant were eating the buffet food. Our waiter, though handsome, was rotten. The bartender was super helpful and chatty. She was telling us stories of where she lived. Apparently, Dr. Pepper and toilet paper can get you out of any fix in Mexico. I hope I never have an opportunity to find out. She saved this restaurant from a 2 star rating. The lobby was a little strange. There was only one real cozy area. The rest were little strange shops and an optometrist. I wonder what the rooms looked like.

Yelp
The Hotel La Fonda De Taos has the best location right on historic Taos Plaza. The rooms are all updated and very charming. The whole place was quite clean. It was nice to have complementary Starbucks coffee in lobby cafe. Sadly, there was nothing for kids to drink though.
google avatar

Yelp
Updating to 1 star. It's been a month since our stay and no reaction from Hotel Management whatsoever regarding how we were treated by the night manager. AT ALL. I have never been so humiliated in my life and the hotel refuses to respond or try make it right. The city of Taos has been on the decline for some time now. Visitors are treated like scum and hyper-charged for everything from a simple plate of eggs to a bowl of Tortilla Soup. The area will always be attractive, but if you want our advice, get a rental house out on Hondo Mesa. Enjoy the mountains, the gorge and all the sights, but stay out of over-priced, under-delivering Taos by all means. And to think I was enchanted with this place as a child and as a young adult. The luster is definitely gone now.

Geary J.

Yelp
Having traveled to and through Taos for years and always saying that we would stay here some time, we made reservations for a couple of days during Woolfest one year. Remember that the words "Old", and "Historic" are used to describe this building. The lobby, and rooms are clean and decorated in the local fashion. Our room window opened up overlooking the Plaza so we could enjoy the breeze that carried in the smells of the pinion, cry's of the ravens, and the coolness of the mountains. Everyone should stay here at least once and just let the vibe of the history fill them.

Yelp
Great location! It was fun to stay right off the square. The building is gorgeous & historic. Private parking for an extra fee (it is worth it). Attentive staff, I will be returning! Great place.

Yelp
What an awesome hotel! I haven't checked-out yet but I want to comment while it's fresh. The staff was so very accommodating when I had to extend my stay due to heavy snowfall. What an enchanting place to be snowed-in! They all have made me feel so special. I'm a recent widow and was not looking forward to the first Christmas without my husband so I decided to come to Taos for a Holiday sabbatical. What a blessing to be staying here. The staff has gone far more above and beyond to accommodate me than any other hotel I have ever stayed at. Be sure to tour the D.H. Lawrence forbidden art, found only here. I hope you'll be as intrigued by the hotel's historical aspects as I am. It's definitely not a cookie cutter hotel..Thank goodness. Oh and I love the Bath & Body Works amenities!

Yelp
After a 24-hour Internet access outage at a much more expensive hotel in Taos, the more expensive hotel eventually sent me to Hotel La Fonda. The facilities and food at La Fonda may not be five star, but the service sure is. The staff offered me free water, gave me free Internet Access and let me set up office in my choice of the lobby or its Plaza Cafe restaurant. The lobby staff and the restaurant staff checked in on me repeatedly to make sure I didn't need anything. I overheard the lobby staff praising a waitress employee "behind her back" for excellent service to which I can attest. Everyone was just SUPER nice and accommodating - exactly the kind of people that should be in the hospitality business. I overheard other guests complimenting the front desk on service. How often do you hear that at a hotel? Not often, in my experience. Although I wasn't crazy about the beef tacos, the waitstaff at the restaurant was the nicest waitstaff I have experienced in New Mexico and the chocolate cake was delicious. If I return to Taos, I would rather stay here than the fancier hotel at which I stayed. If service is important to you, consider trying this place.

Yelp
My experience was the WORST I have had in a long time with restaurants! We eat out a lot, especially being on vacation in Taos. We entered the La Fonda restaurant hungry for lunch and thirsty after shopping. We were brought water right away (temps into the 90's every day this week). Then we waited, and waited, and WAITED for someone to take our order. There was only ONE other couple in the restaurant. After 20 minutes the waitress came over giggling and apologized saying something about "horseplay". We were not laughing. She took our order and seated another couple. After about 10 minutes, the other couple was SERVED. We were still waiting! After another 10 minutes, our order came WITHOUT the extra tortillas we had ordered. Another 10-15 minutes elapsed while we waited for the tortillas and ate most of our meal without them. My husband finally GOT UP and FOUND the waitress telling her we wanted our tortillas. She giggled, apologized, and tried to make a joke of it then told him she had forgotten. After about 10 more minutes, the tortillas came! The service would not have been acceptable even if the food had been good, but the food was MEDIOCRE at BEST. I will NEVER eat here again and I will recommend that any of my friends and acquaintances NOT eat at La Fonda.

Yelp
In a lotion/potion gift shop in Taos, we asked the owner what would be a lovely, unique experience for lunch, and she told his the La Fonda Hotel, and that her son was the chef. I went here for my birthday June 2008 and had a lovely time. They have these wonderful booths, sort of built up off the floor, with walls, and your own window, and very private. Very romantic, or just private. We both had salads. I had a green salad, nicely dressed not too heavy, and my friend had a fruit salad. Our service was wonderful, and I got a birthday glass of wine from our waiter which was thoughtful. We also got as much bread as we wanted, and it was wonderful crusty bread with a plate of basalmic vinegar/olive oil. I think what made it so special was the quaintness and soft elegance of the window seat/booths and the fact that it felt so quiet and peaceful, not super busy. I would go back again for lunch.

Yelp
We have stayed in the main building on the Plaza a number of times. We tried their new "casita" on LeDoux Street, about two blocks south of the Plaza. These rooms were converted from an art gallery, right next door to the Gorman Gallery. The Bad - no a/c on the hottest day in June, no cross breeze and no ceiling fan. They said to call the front desk if there were issues but there were no phone. The Good - the place had a niece size living room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a King bed. There is a perfect little porch to sit out with a bottle of wine and enjoy the beautiful, quite street scene. This place still needs a little work but it has great potential. I am sure it will be a BIG hit during ski season and earn 5 stars. .

Yelp
We stayed 2 yrs ago and it was nice. The people at the desk nice. This year same, however there is much to be desired. Rooms are small unless you pay more, no small fridge, no breakfast, 6 dollars for parking. I will find something else next time I am in Taos.

Sam G.

Yelp
I'm giving two stars because the staff is super nice and it's a great location. The room was dark and dated but I think pretty clean. The BAD news is the beds are old and worn out, and not very comfy. The sheets were kinda gray and worn out as well. $6 charge for parking -- not a lot of money, but really? Also, I may be wrong, I don't think there's A.C. There you have it....

Yelp
Four nights and I never was able to get Wifi. Room with ugly roof for a view and tired looking bed. The hotel pretty much regulates the forced air. The staff was nice as was the DH lawrence art but I won't return again.

Georgia L.

Yelp
A touch of history with the best food and atmosphere in Taos. Red chili pozole and green chili stew a staple. Red chili Enchiladas the best. And homemade seasonal pumpkin deserts. The chef intermixes with guests talking about his food. A wonderful experience. Don't miss it.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for one night a couple of weeks ago. I expected to love this place. I thought it would fun to stay on the Plaza in such a historic spot. We were on the second floor, corner. Had 3 windows looking out over the Plaza. We immediately opened the windows and enjoyed the lovely cross-breeze. Had a great night's sleep. About 8 AM, while my husband was in the shower and I was reading the newspaper, I looked up and saw a man looking back at me. He was about 12 feet away from me, just outside my second-story window, standing in a bucket, part of a giant crane. For the next hour, the crane transported various men back and forth in front of our windows. Of course we talked with management. Turns out, the men in cranes were installing artwork on the La Fonda building, just outside our room. (In the picture I have posted of the front of the hotel, our room was on the 2nd floor, corner, right next to the "giraffe art.") Management told us it was "not their fault," as the men didn't have permission to be "on" the La Fonda's building. Management offered a discount on our "next visit to the La Fonda," but we will not be back. It was a very unpleasant experience.

Yelp
I have been eating at this restaurant, on and off, dating back forty years. For many years, I passed it up in favor of the much better La Cocina Restaurant, across the Plaza. That restaurant closed many years ago, so I recently revisited La Fonda and found the quality of the food had much improved. We started with Posole, which is a classic New Mexican dish of pork and hominy. The pork was tender and the broth was very flavorful. I love the texture hominy adds to this dish. It was served with soft flour tortilla wedges and a squeeze of lime. I had ordered only an appetizer portion, but next time I'm in town for lunch, I will be ordering a full bowl. My companion, who does not really care for spicy food, was very happy with the burrito in red chile sauce. This sauce, like most New Mexican chile sauces, relied more on flavor than fire. The portions were large, filling, and tasty. I ordered the rellenos de queso and was quite pleased. The cheese was bland but nicely set off the green chile sauce, which was, again, tasty without being too fiery. I generally love hot and spicy flavors, but this dish managed to be spicy enough to please my palate yet mild enough to appeal to many who don't care for highly spiced foods. Our waiter was prompt, courteous, efficient and helpful. There was only one other couple in the place at five in the afternoon on a Sunday, but there was no sense of being abandoned. The bill for two main entrees, an appetizer and two beers was astonishingly low. My only caveat with La Fonda is the same one I have with all the local Taos restaurants lately -- what's with all the flour tortillas?? This is blue corn country. Restaurants around Taos used to feature blue corn, or yellow corn tortillas. Now they don't seem to serve corn tortillas of any color. I hope the management of La Fonda puts blue corn, or at least yellow corn tortillas back on the menu soon. They are a signature of Northern New Mexican cuisine, and I miss them. Otherwise, I recommend this icon of Taos to anyone who wants a good dinner at a decent price, at any time.

Yelp
Be careful, do not book through any online site for this hotel. The hotel penalizes clients who do not book direct because they make less money from the reservation. So you end up with a small room at the back, overlooking a horrible flat silver roof. Unless you book direct and you make a request directly with them you will be allocated "best available according to your category". These are the words of the manager on July 15 2017. In addition to the horrible view, the room was small and cramped, the ceiling vent outside the bathroom had been poorly plastered and the entire room and bathroom was in dire need of renovation. We paid $191 for this room! When I asked if they were full they said no, but guests who booked direct got priority. Both the booking clerk and the manager repeated this. They offered to upgrade us for an extra fee of $30 to a room with a "view" that may be better maintained. When I said I wasn't happy to pay extra for a decent room they offered me my money back. So, even though it was 7pm and they were unlikely to sell any more rooms, they refunded our $191 rather than put us in the better room they had available. They assured me they were the best hotel in Taos and I would find it difficult to find another hotel at their standard and price. To the contrary, we quickly booked an alternative through Booking.com and were treated very well at an excellent hotel very close by, with a large beautifully decorated bedroom, four poster bed, big sitting areas and breakfast for 2 included. We paid significantly less.

Bob R.

Yelp
I did not stay at La Fonda, but I did have a coffee and enjoyed the R C Gorman collection in the lobby. I spent money to enter gallerys in Santa Fe that did not have the appeal that La Fonda's lobby has a gallery. The coffee shop only takes cash.

Yelp
I genuinely like this place and absolutely come back. With welcoming and warm smiles, the hotel customer service is awesome. The lady at the front offered to roll our baggage in which we said that there is no need, since we only had one suitcase with rollerblade wheels. Prepared! The people at the front desk were funny and charming. They made us feel very welcome, as we came in around 10:30 pm from a short flight followed by a long drive(6-7 hours. They were sweet as they told us places that they recommend for us to see and also accommodated us to a room away from jackhammering renovations. The hotel concierge mentioned to us some history and told us all about the art gallery and the D.H. Lawrence painting available. It was quite nice when you walk in. Almost like a cool crisp eco-friendly home with the adobe walls(smooth as ceramic bathtub) and wooden ceiling of textured scales. This hotel is like a museum with its fine art, sculptures, tiles, and paintings. I like how quiet it is. The room has a television which I am not sure how to work since I have no clue on how to autochannel scan(not technologically savvy) and it has an iron, ironing board, hairdryer. It has small towels to remove makeup, Bath and Body Works, Rainkissed Leaves scent fragrant soaps, shampoo, and body lotion. In my room, the mirrors are lined with handmade and painted tiles which are adorable. There is great water pressure in the bathroom when you shower. The window view was a top of another building. I stayed in room 205, and it was spacious compared to a bed and breakfast in the next town over. There is complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate downstairs. Not to mention the newspaper is free, too! =)

Yelp
What a great place to stay. Authentic Taos atmosphere. Right on the square. We loved how clean the hotel was and how safe we felt and loved being on the square. Yes, a bit thin walled but a fan took care of that.... The staff was very friendly and very helpful... Don't forget to see the DH Lawrence exhibit We will be back!

Yelp
Ooohh, one of the oldest hotels in Taos. The rooms were small, but you expect that from and old building. Walls are smooth and very cozy with fireplaces in the lobby and the loft. The bad thing, they charge extra for parking, which is behind the hotel and the gate to get into the hotel is locked from the outside. So you have to walk all the way around the front to enter. Is good when you're leaving, but when your bringing in luggage is kinda annoying. I don't know if anyone has experience any floating visitors in the past, but I sure did. We stayed in room 210.

Yelp
My BF and I set out on a trip through NM from Denver recently. Our first evening we stopped in Taos, and without a plan or knowing anything about the town, we stopped in at Hotel La Fonda De Taos looking for a room for the night. I enjoy supporting local business and was pleased to learn that the owners are actually from Taos. I do, however, feel a bit apprehensive when you staying somewhere that isn't a chain, because you never know what you're going to get. Before we committed to getting a room, the very friendly ladies at the desk offered to show us the room. We were happy with our first impression and decided to stay the night. The decor in the lobby and in the room was charming and what I expected to see in NM, so we settled our belongings into the room and headed out for a cocktail and a small bite to eat. When we returned, the hotel was quiet and cozy with the fireplaces lit. We had a relaxing stay and felt so comfortable that we stopped for another night on our way back through town 2 days later. We didn't eat at the restaurant, because we wanted to be out and about, but is was open and smelled wonderful. We did take them up on the complimentary bottled water and morning coffee. They also offered to make us coffee or tea in the evening and there is a quaint coffee shop attached to the hotel. Hotel La Fonda De Taos is as comfortable as a B&B, with the privacy of a hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and we felt welcome and appreciated by the staff.

Yelp
Cute and comfortable hotel. We came here after the hotel we were at had no water due to a water main break. Service at the front desk was fantastic. We had a suite with a fireplace and it would've been romantic if we weren't on a family vacation. Reasonable prices.

Yelp
We tried two different nights to eat here - and it was not busy at all...maybe two other couples seated in the dining area. One night, we waited and waited for someone to come seat us, so we left. The next night, we were seated, but the server never came back to get our drink or food order. We decided to leave again. (I don't even think they knew we'd even come...or gone.)

Yelp
Great location. Charming hotel. Downside---limited restaurant hours,no coffee service in room. If you want a good nights rest, don't get a room facing the plaza.

Yelp
The hotel was clean and the room was nice. However, the walls are PAPER thin. Our first night there was a room of women next door and they were having a good time, but their laughter and voices carried through the walls and finally at 11:30 we had to call the front office. The second night, there was a family that apparently had to get up at 3:30 AM to leave. They were so loud and rude that it woke us up from a dead sleep when the teenage daughter started yelling at either a pet or a younger sibling that did something wrong. Someone else must have complained because soon afterward, their phone rang and then they got quieter. It was nice, except for that fact.

Yelp
We stayed here and it made for a great Taos experience in an old adobe hotel, however they were painting next door and we smelled paint thinner for most of the day and the square was worry some at night. Very friendly clean place and their restaurant served good cheap food.

Yelp
Great location, awesome room, great staff! Parking is private, but was a gravel lot. I highly recommend this place if you are going to Taos for the first time!
