My husband and I stayed at Hotel La Manufacture for 3 nights at the end of June. I chose the hotel because it was outside of the major touristy areas, but close to a metro station. It's also more reasonably priced than many hotels in Paris, costing around 100 euro a night.
The hotel is really easy to get to from the airport, just catch the RER B train to Denfert-Rochereau and then transfer to Metro line 6 to Place d'Italie station, which is a very short walk from the hotel. Warning: this is a huge pain in the butt with a large suitcase because you have to carry the suitcase up and down many sets of stairs, but is infinitely cheaper than a cab or airport shuttle. I want to update from Wise C's review and say that you can buy metro tickets at this station from either a machine or from the customer service window.
The hotel itself is very nice and situated on a quiet street. It's within walking distance to many bakeries and restaurants. The hotel does offer breakfast, but it's really expensive, so you're much better off going essentially anywhere else. If you walk north of the hotel, you'll reach a windy street that has a ton of neat restaurants, grocery stores, and bars that are reasonably priced. It's also really easy to catch the Metro anywhere in the city. For example, it took around 20-25 minutes to get to the Eiffel Tower from the hotel.
The lobby is clean and bright, and the staff are friendly. We booked a club room with air conditioning. While the room was quite small (it was dominated by the queen size bed) it was clean. The room was also equipped with free wifi, you just have to agree to the terms and conditions every 24 hours. On our final night, the maid forgot to give us a second towel, but this was easily fixed by going down to the front desk.
The only negative about this hotel is that you have to drop your room key off at the front desk before you venture out for the day. This wouldn't be so bad, but they don't do any sort of ID check when you ask for your key back at the end of the day. You could theoretically say any room number and get that key. There is a safe in the room for your valuables, and we didn't have any problem when we stayed there, but it's quite the security risk. I really hope they improve this system.
Overall, I really liked Hotel La Manufacture, and I would happily stay here again.
