How I Travel: Jonathan Adler Dreams of Getting Trapped in London’s Victoria & Albert Museum

"Other top faves are... the Scalinatella in Capri. It's a little bit more petite, more eccentric, and unimaginably chic, which is how I would like people to perceive me."

I was visiting Capri for the first time and booked La Scalinatella upon receiving a generous offer and couldn't be more pleased with the entire experience. Service: Having stayed at countless hotels as a former consultant, I can honestly say I've never experienced service this exceptional as a regular, first-time guest. The staff-to-guest ratio felt like 3:1 - there was always someone ready to help, and their attention to detail was remarkable. Accommodations: Mr. Morgano graciously upgraded us to a suite, which was absolutely beautiful. The space was incredibly generous with two full bathrooms and spectacular ocean views that made every moment special. Breakfast: The breakfast service was excellent, particularly because they focus on fresh, made-to-order main dishes rather than a wasteful buffet setup. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Setting: It's hard to capture just how stunning this property is - the views and overall atmosphere truly make you feel like you've escaped to another world. Fair warning: it's quite a climb up, so it might be challenging for those with mobility concerns, but we found the location perfect. My only minor complaint would be the absence of in-room irons or steamers. Having to use a special pressing service that takes over an hour is inconvenient, especially during summer visits when you're dealing with lots of linens. I'll absolutely return to Scalinatella and will be recommending it enthusiastically to friends and family!

I booked this trip last minute, not ever traveling to Capri nor Italy. I typically do a lot of research, and sometimes get "analysis paralysis". However with limited time, I pulled the trigger on this hotel. Let me tell you, it was exactly what I wanted, and exceeded my expectations in every way. ||It was extremely clean and beautiful. You can tell they take great pride in this hotel and its grounds. Everything is bright white and bright blue. ||I booked a deluxe junior suite, and my view was incredible as was my room. I stayed in room 204. It's one of the rooms that's recently been renovated. Plenty of room to spread out, a large closet with lots of hangers and drawers, a large bathroom and large balcony (that has a retractable overhead shade). The room also had a blackout shutter that you could open and close at night, which kept out light and any noise (tho it was generally a quiet area). It was warm this week, and the AC worked very well. ||The main pool was beautiful, and I was able to get a bed every day (they are very comfortable). There is a second pool if the main pool gets crowded. Both of them overlook the sea. ||The service, from the front desk crew, the restaurant staff, and the cleaning crew were all very pleasant, attentive, and helpful without being intrusive. I strongly recommend using the concierge for assistance. They arranged meals, gave great recommendations, and arranged to meet me at the ferry dock upon arrival, and bring my luggage up to the hotel, and the same on the return. Strongly recommend the service and it is well worth the cost, which is quite cheap (€22 each way).||The restaurant and room service were very good. I used it several times. The breakfast was great each morning.||Lastly, know that many hotels in Capri are only accepable by foot. The taxi will get you within about a 10-15 minute walk. This was not an issue for me, but do consider having them meet you and bring your luggage up from the ferry as I mentioned above. ||It was the perfect location as it was near all the action, but very quiet and secluded.||I fell in love with Capri and this hotel, and I am already planning my return! THANK YOU to the staff for making my stay relaxing and wonderful! Exactly what I needed in my quest for solace and a break from the real world!

My wife and I have been staying in this Hotel for four nights. Very cool atmosphere. For over € 1.300 per night we expected to be treated as guests and did not want to hear about all the things the hotel is not able to deliver. |Very obvious was that all the personnel did not seem to be experienced. It was obvious that most of them where new. In our opinion this stay was a 5+++ star price for a 3 star expierience. |To the contrary is Villa Magherita. The employees and owners are real hosts and on top of it, this hotel serveres not only great food super wines in a splendid atmosphere with very experienced longterm personal. |And now the best, the costs are considerably less than half what Scalinatella costs. 5 star Service and ambience for a 3 star price!

Although not centrally located, this hotel is only a five to seven minute walk from the main square. Situated in a location with amazing views, this hotel is charming and has a warm feel. The staff is super helpful and the rooms are spacious. The pool was great! One thing I did notice is that repeat guests get preferential treatment. Although staff is nice to everyone, I felt the repeat clients were treated a little different which is totally understandable however they should to make it less obvious . I would definitely return.

I stayed at this so-called 5-star hotel and my experience was absolutely unacceptable. First, the photos online are completely misleading — the rooms look nothing like what is shown. What you see on the website and what you get in real life are two very different things. It feels like they are deliberately lying to guests.||On top of that, the service and atmosphere are nowhere near 5-star standards. I paid €1200 per night expecting comfort and rest, yet I couldn’t even sleep. In just 48 hours, I was disturbed twice at night: once by the staff making noise early in the morning, and another time at 2 a.m. by people in the next room screaming and moaning. The manager assured me after the first complaint that it would not happen again, but it did. I lost all trust in this hotel.||This place has nothing of a luxury hotel. It felt more like a cheap motel, yet with an outrageous price tag. Paying €1200 per night to not sleep is simply unacceptable.||I do not recommend this hotel to anyone — avoid it if you want a real 5-star experience.

This hotel is lovely. It over looks the sea high up a small hill.|It is a short walk to the main part of Capri. Many luxury shops. Gucci, YSL, etc|The hotel had a lovely pool and apparently another one that I didn't see.|Italian tile everywhere|Pretty lobby with a small bar and also an area for drinks which is very popular before dinner|The main restaurant is at the pool. Breakfast lunch & dinner|Rooms are spacious. Mine had a terrace. Large bathroom with shower and separate tub|Dinner the first night was horrible. I ordered veal Milanese. It must have been a 2 pound piece of veal with over an inch of breading. I had two bites and couldn't eat it. When the maitre’d asked how dinner was I said mine was ok. He looked at my plate. Afterwards he agreed with me and kindly took it off my bill|The next day I had a club sandwich for lunch that was the best I've ever had 🤷‍♀️|Our waitress was very unfriendly. I will not go on about her|Front desk staff are very professional and nice

I am extremely picky when it comes to cleanliness and service and comfort and the hotel exceeded all my requirements and expectations. I also do not write many reviews but had such a wonderful time I felt compelled to do so. Beautiful hotel, friendly and very attentive staff. Comfortable beds and impeccably clean rooms. Food was amazing as well. Beautiful views and nice that is out of the center of town and the day tourist crowds. I highly recommend. I stayed in May 2025 with my 22 year old daughter for mother daughter trip.

Hotel La Scalinatella is a true gem in Capri. Impeccable service, elegant and peaceful atmosphere. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms — beautifully decorated, comfortable, and with a spectacular view. The location is excellent: close to the town center but away from the crowds. Delicious breakfast and attentive service at all times. An unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!
